This tour was much more than we thought it would be. Very interesting tour of the clandestine center and its heartbreaking history , but more like an entire lesson on the political and economic history of Buenos Aires. Elisa was an excellent tour guide- receptive to our many questions, knowledgeable, good sense of humor. We highly recommend this tour for an unusual and worthwhile experience in Buenos Aires.

Elisa is very knowledgeable about her country and its history. Besides educating us about the era, she provided personal stories as well. It is remarkable that this happened in the seventies, not long ago Really makes you think. Take her tours!!

I am always willing to share with travelers what it was like to live thru that dark period in Argentina's history. The tour is meant for intellectually curious travelers like you who want to become eyewitnesses to an obscure period of our history and have a unique experience with the dark side of Argentina. Thanks for the kind review!

Elisa is very knowledgeable in the history of some of the clandestine detention centers within the local neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The dehumanizing atrocities can be a heavy weight to think on, but necessary if we are to avoid this history repeating itself. She is very enjoyable to spend time with and you will come away with a better understanding of their tragic story and how they move forward from it.

We did the In the Footsteps of the Dictators tour and found it incredibly informative! Elisa is very knowledgeable on Argentina’s history and gave us a strong overview of the different governments in Argentina, sprinkled with her own experience as a citizen. Really really wonderful experience - couldn’t recommend her enough! She caters the tours to your interests, and our three hours really felt like a Q&A!

I am very glad to have booked this tour which provided me with an insight into the more recent history of Buenos Aires, of Argentina, and of its people. Elisa opened that door for me, and I will be forever grateful for her to share her deep knowledge, personal experience, and assessments regarding one of the darkest periods of the country’s history, and for sharing her thoughts on how it still impact Argentinian society today. I was the only participant on that day, which made this tour very personal and allowed me to ask a lot of question; I was extremely happy to talk with someone who actually knows the city so well, and has a deep interest in history and societal issues, and to exchange thoughts about politics and society in both Latin America and Europe (where I am from). This tour is an absolute MUST for everyone interested in the deeper layers of Argentinian society, and the trauma that is, by the way, also highly visible in Argentinian art–many of the sculptures, paintings, and photographs that are displayed in the art museums of Buenos Aires tell about the violence, the pain, the grief of an era that this tour brings back to live–fortunately only through words. If you come to Buenos Aires, book this tour. It is outstanding.

This is an excellent tour. The guide, Elisa Diodato, who speaks both Spanish and English (and also happens to be a very pleasant person) first meets with you in a cafe and gives you a thorough history, with photos, of the dark years of Argentinian history, 1976-83, and answers any questions that you should have. Her personal accounts take you beyond any book knowledge that you may have of the dictatorship. Later you go to a large detention center, where she explains the murals on the exterior walls, bringing them to life. You are also able to go into the memory garden, a space that pays tribute to the disappeared. Even though, as a professor of Spanish, I knew quite a bit about the dictatorship, what I learned on the tour rounded out my understanding of this difficult period. For example, I found out that even though Jews only account for 2% of the population, they made up 10% of the disappeared. My partner, who was not familiar with the dictatorship, did not think that the tour was gruesome, and was glad that he had the opportunity to learn about this period in Argentinian history.

It was a great way to learn about a
Period in Argentinean history- a time that’s still raw for those who lived through it. The tour is literally discussing murals painted on the walls of one of the many detention centers. It’s a unique delivery of information. The tour lasted 2 hours which was plenty. Recommend !

Elisa is really nice, friendly, personable and wonderful guide who really loves her job and obviously enjoys it. She is the kind of guide who really knows what a tourist wants. Her reputation is 100% deserved.

Her interpersonal skills work superbly well in providing a tour which is educational, informative and enjoyable. Her extensive knowledge of the historical site (which had the greatest impact on me) and its amazing history was second to none. She provided enough information without overload. She led me around this eerie place, giving me details I couldn't have known had I visited on my own. She was always pointing out all interesting things along the way and on the murals. The whole tour was full of emotion and awe and I was under no pressure to 'move on'. This gave me plenty of time space to absorb everything and thought gathering, which was important; whilst also leaving enough time for reflecting upon the site and the situation.

I spent the morning trying to get some understanding of the horrors of the dictatorships while Elisa professionally answered any questions that I asked, providing great information, context and history of both the dictatorships and history of Argentina in general. She told me interesting stories and her personal anecdotes about the time of the last military dictatorship that made the tour very personal and unique. All this means that you learn so, so much more than you could possible imagine. (And there's not a lot of walking!).

I have done extensive travelling and I can tell that if you like history and if you want someone who really "knows her stuff" no other experience would be as good as this one.
