I was surprised the trip was so informative and interesting. Rick was a superb guide with a wealth of knowledge regarding the desert, Palm Springs, and the San Andreas fault. I would certainly recommend RedJeep and make sure you ask for Rick.

We hopped in the jeep with Darrell and had a whale of a drive! We knew nothing about the region beforehand, so all the geology was new to us. And his hilarious commentary made it all the more interesting, with all his visual aids! Highly recommended.

It looked like something different to do, however we had a very hot day for a canyon tour. The jeeps seat 7 people and are covered. The canopy can come off but it would not be a good hair day. We took a bumpy ride into the mountains. We stopped to learn about the fauna. The information we got was good information. We got out of the jeep and walked on loose gravel to see, touch and taste, yes taste some of the shrubs, the walk was a bit too much with the loose gravel. We were climbing over stones and rocks. It was very very hot, we stopped along the way to climb areas for better views. However the climbs were very narrow, slippery and not a straight line up. It was a bit difficult for an older personal. Of course we could have stayed back but we thought we could do the climbs. Some we took a pass. We stopped at an Indian a village which was the most interesting part of the trip. The tour offered plenty of cold water and granola bars. The trip was expensive and we personally just didn’t feel it was worth the money.m

We are very sorry that you didn't find the trip worth the money, but we are happy to hear that there were elements that you enjoyed. Our goal is to provide a unique experience in a private and exclusive location, and we strive to make the tour accessible for most people.
We advertise this as a Jeep Tour through the canyons of the San Andreas Fault Zone. Because it is an off-road tour, it is a little bumpy. But it is not an extreme ride (we sometimes hear complaints that it's not bumpy or thrilling enough for some people).
We do adjust the intensity of the experience to our guest's abilities. For example, while we try to make sure everyone gets a slot canyon experience (considered by many to be a main highlight of the trip), we have numerous options available. We try to pick one that is comfortable for the guests. The most popular slot canyon hike is through a narrow canyon where you do have to do some light bouldering. Other walks are mostly flat and through wider canyons. You are, however, walking through soft sand and "gravel" almost everywhere since we are traveling up desert washes and canyons carved by wind, water, and geologic forces.

This has all the potential to be an amazing tour of the desert and rock formations in an open air jeep. However instead we got to see a Disney type Indian( native American) village that took up about 1/3 of the tour. If isn't even an authentic village . It is constructed by the tour company. It is like any other model village I've ever been to.
We stopped to see a non existent pig and rescue horses that were sleeping in stables that we didn't visit. We stopped to see holes in rocks and different floral varieties along the way. We stopped more than a local train in New Jersey and got in and out of the jeep so much my knees started to kill me.
We never got above 10mph. The speedometer said the jeep could go 85mph. This is not a high speed desert tour. This is more like a stop and start tour of mostly man made objects in the desert. The tour guide clearly loved his job and was very knowledgeable about the terrain and the history of the earth and the local civilizations that have lived here. The tour lacked oomph and obviously speed. It isn't an all thrills ride at all. I think I could have walked it quicker.

Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate hearing from our guests. I'm glad you felt your guide was knowledgeable and passionate about his job, but I am sorry to hear the tour wasn't thrilling enough for you.
Some people who book a Jeep Tour assume it's going to be a rugged, fast, exciting ride. However, we try to make it clear that this is not a thrill ride. Rather, it is a gentle, naturalist-guided journey through the San Andreas Fault Zone, where we entertain, engage, and educate our guests about the area's plants, animals, geology, seismology, history, and Native American culture.
We offer a "soft adventure" that is accessible to most people.
The Jeeps travel slowly up desert washes and canyons, where our guides talk about how wind, water, and geologic forces formed the landscape. The Jeeps do stop frequently to let guests take in the beauty, take pictures, ask questions, etc. There are also several stops where guests are invited out of the Jeeps to take short nature walks or hike to experience different aspects of the desert.
We also spend a portion of the tour visiting our recreated Cahuilla Indian Village to discuss how the Cahuilla People used the desert plants, animals, and materials found along the fault zone for survival. This village sits on the historical site of an ancient village that was inhabited for approximately 1,000 years, and we've created interpretive displays to help tell the story of life in this inhospitable environment.
Your description of the tour is accurate and is what we try to portray in our tour descriptions and marketing.
So unfortunately, it sounds like our tour was just not a good fit for you. I hope you found other activities during your stay that were more to your liking.

We loved everything about this ½ day trip with Red Jeep Tours. Charles, our guide, was so knowledgeable about the plant life, the geology and the local history. He told stories throughout the entire trip!
The short hike to the desert oasis was so pretty, with all the palms and, eventually, the running water. The stories in the Native American village were fascinating. My favorite part of the day was the hike through the slot canyon—so awesome and definitely not something we’d have attempted on our own. We enjoyed all three parts to the trip!
We appreciated the bottled water he provided, as it did get hot towards the end of our morning. And we loved the photos he took for us. We also took him up on some of his Palm Springs recommendations for lunch spots and other places to hike—which turned out to be some of the highlights of our trip! Definitely an A+ experience!

Our guide Ray was an excellent source of knowledge and humor. He took his time allowing us to take everything in and hike at our somewhat slower pace at times. The scenery was amazing and the short hikes were worth the effort. It was a perfect tour and we got much more than we expected out of it.

A Fabulous day with Travis! This tour was great but made even better by our tour guide Travis! He is local to the area and boy did he know his stuff. The tour was amazing. Incredible views, fun hiking, and a smooth ride in the Jeep. Definitely worth the money for this trip.

A friend booked a private tour for four of us - at first I wasn’t sure I was too excited - rocks, driving around in the desert, discussing fault lines….but we got lucky with our guide Michael, a former high school teacher and it showed. He has both a passion and a gift for explaining LOTS of the geology, geography and natural elements. He showed us all around this hidden, interesting and significant area. We all learned lots, which we really enjoyed, and we felt like his energy and engagement with us made it all fun!

Super fun and worth the experience. We had Travis as a guide, he was awesome - it was cool to learn about the area and I didn’t think it crossed into too educational. He took us to the Oasis and the two canyons - the view from the second canyon blew me away! The area is gorgeous. But it was also cool to hear about the oasis and the indigenous people who inhabited it. A great way to spend 3 hours.

Anyone that has experience taking an Uber/lyft here, how is the cell service for getting one fo the return trip?

I can answer my own question now 🤣. Ubers might have trouble finding it unless they keep their eyes open for the signs, but Ubering seems really common and Travis was nice enough to take me and my friend as well as a couple that was on the tour with us to the JW in Palm Desert to get an Uber back easier

Due to covid restrictions, all jeep tours are private. Prior to Covid, individual seats were sold for public tours but not now to keep guests and staff safe.
