We were in two minds about rafting on the Kern but the welcoming crew at Kern Valley Outfitters made it an easy choice. A half day trip through 4 rapids left us all grinning from ear to ear. A properly fantastic afternoon on the water under the guidance of the brilliant Katie was worth every penny. Highly recommended

Our two-day trip on the lower Kern was fantastic!
I have been wanting to take the family rafting on the Kern for years, but there was never enough water. So this year, off we went, and it was a great trip!
The lower Kern two-day trip was exciting without being scary, and super fun! Our raft guide Garret was professional and a ton of fun at the same time, and as a zoologist he added lots of interesting details and color commentary to the trip. Our trip leader Miles was great: entertaining, but clearly knew his way around every nook of the river and was extremely reassuring that safety was #1 (important as my teen son can be anxious sometimes). The other guides (Sven, Ko and Katie) was also clearly comfortable and skilled on the water, fascinatingly interesting people, and a lot of fun. This was not our first rafting trip (we have done both day trips and overnight trips 4 times before on other rivers), and it is definitely a memory we will treasure for life. We cannot wait to go back!

Kern River Outfitters is the go-to choice for white water rafting on the Kern. Provided all the equipment for safety and comfort, we had an absolute blast navigating downstream. Jackson did a great job outfitting our gear and providing info about the rapids. Garrett gave an outstanding and informative safety shpeal. Lina was the best guide we could have asked for. Her strength and knowledge surrounding the sections of the river we rafted are majorly commendable. Huge thanks to all the guides for their approachability, kindness, helpfulness, and mastery of the river (even with such high waters this year)! They MADE our float experience and did an expert job coaching our paddles. Action-packed and fun-filled, this tour is a MUST if you make it to Kernville.

Each step of the way, these guys were professional and fun! We signed up for a full day, but due to river flow levels they had to drop it down to a half day. KRO had great communication when that decision was made. Check-in went smooth, and they went over each piece of safety equipment to make sure everyone was on point. All of the guides were fun and jovial, they really made the trip what it was. They know what they are doing and they are damn good at it! The guides took the time to make sure each person in their boat knew what they were doing, how to stay safe, and ultimately have an absolute blast! Without a question I will be coming back to raft with KRO!

We had a great time on the half day upper Kern trip. Full day trip was modified due to high water, but the staff went out of their way to make sure we still had a great experience. Our guide Garret was really incredible!

My hubs and I haven’t been rafting in close to 20 years….and decided it was high time to take our three kids. We did the half day lower Kern mild rapid and had a great time. This was largely in part to Gregarious Garrett who kept us on our toes, rolling with cheesy jokes, and fighting by to stay dry in paddle fights with other boats. The kids definitely want to make this an annual adventure. Thanks Garrett and Kern River Outiftters.

Amazing half-day rafting trip on the Kern with Bailey the River Guide. We booked super close to the actual date of the trip with no issues. Everything about the excursion was professional, well-rehearsed and comprehensive. Our guide's expertise not only kept us entertained and safe, but she also kept an eye out for other, less experienced boats as well. Will definitely be repeat customers.

My husband enrolled us for the 2-day overnight trip and we had no idea what to expect. Our guides were Miles and Scott, and they joked that they have two types of guests - the type who calls often to understand the details (I am this type of guest) and the type who calls once (my husband is this type of guest). My husband’s style of planning left our family of four first timers (including our 14-year old twin girls) going into this experience blind.
We are not the “adventurer” types. As a family we prefer to read, create art, garden, and write. You can imagine how underprepared we felt going into this experience.
The weather was in the high 90s and the water level was low, which made it the perfect trip for our family of first-timers. There were lots of breaks for swimming, and at one point we got the opportunity to stop and do a high jump off of Jump Rock. Fun!
This is Miles’s fifth season and his experience shows. He was calm, professional, on-time, and encouraging. One of my daughter’s and I were pretty nervous, thinking we would experience big frothing rapids but with such low water levels, we had plenty of time to learn and practice the different paddling techniques Miles taught us which boosted our confidence.
Because of the low water levels, our trip was cut short; we didn’t experience the second day of rafting. Honestly, this was terrific for us because we didn’t have to rush through dinner to ensure a full-night of sleep, or breakfast the next morning to get going for the next phase of the trip. We enjoyed a leisurely time, bonding as a family and getting to know our companions and guides.
Miles, the lead guide and the guide on our raft, covered all the safety bases. He talked us through every rapid on approach, explaining how we would work together to successfully navigate the rapid. Miles is intuitive; he anticipated our needs before we even realized them, handling the rapids and our personalities with ease and grace.
Scott was an effervescent, bundle of joy, planting seeds in the hearts of our girls that they could someday be guides as well. Each guide energized and inspired us. I felt well taken care of and trusted them implicitly. Miles and Scott are wonderful.
The food at all meals was ample and delicious. Lots of water and juice were provided to rehydrate and plenty of shaded areas to rest after a full day in the sun. The private campground is a dream, snuggled against the river. The pallets each have an exquisite view, and the pads are extremely comfortable. We did not pack a tent and had no problems sleeping under billions of stars, the buzz of the river providing white noise throughout the night. The mosquitos were non-existent on our trip. Be advised, the campground is hilly, and you’ll need to haul your gear around.
Emboldened, we are ready for our next rafting trip with KRO. Looking forward to returning next year. Thank you!

We had a great half-day rafting trip with our guide Pat. There was just my friend and me in the raft with him and he expertly guided us between all the rocks of the lower water found this year. During the float parts, we really enjoyed getting to know Pat and talking about different traveling adventures each of us has had. Their safety briefing was excellent and a great time was had by all.

Excellent one day trip on the lower kern with my eight-year-old and nine-year-old. Our guide Adam could not have been more professional, expertly understood the river, and made an extra effort to engage the kids with the opportunity to “pilot” the raft and have swimming breaks in the flat water sections.
