Alan was the most amazing tour guide! So much knowledge and was able to answer all of our questions. He made you feel welcomed and our whole family learned so much! Such an appreciation for what people had to endure and the way the plantation changed over the years to be profitable without abuse and slave labor! I will go back! It takes several hours if you want to take it all in! You will learn what history doesn’t teach!

We visited during spring break with a group of 14, children and adults combined. Our tour guide Jim was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We all had a great time and will definitely visit again!

Our tour guide Beverly was very informative and gave a very impressive presentation about the history and culture of the plantation and the surrounding area. Ann was also extremely knowledgeable and presented to us the story of the 1811 slave revolt. They both answered with great detail every question we had. What a great asset Beverly and Ann are to the River Road Historical Society.

It was obvious that our guide, Jim, was passionate about passing on ALL the history of the plantation, including the stories of the enslaved people, history of the family who owned and lived at Destrehan, life in the big house, etc. Learned a lot (and we’d already been to a majority of the plantations in the area). Thank you, Jim, for the time you took to answer questions outside of the tour. Well worth the visit!

I’ve been to several plantations in the area, but never to Destrehan till today!
I thought I had learned most things about plantations and came with pretty strong knowledge. Well, there is so much more here to learn. The history of the slave revolt & the freedman’s colony was so interesting. Our tour guides Jordan & Ann were so knowledgeable . We highly recommend.

Our guide, Beverly, was passionate and informative. We had an amazing time and learned so much! We also got to listen to another guide, Jan, speak about the 1811 Slave Revolt. Would highly recommend!

Fascinating history told by our tour guides Jim and Ann. The history of Drestrahan Plantation and enslavement in Louisiana was passed along to us in an entertaining and informative way.
