This place is amazing. I was not expecting it to be as great as it was. It is a must stop if you can. My family had so much fun. They say the average tour is 45min, but it is self guided and in order to listen to all the interactive things they have I would have spent 1-2 hours. The history is amazing and how they have it set up to tell the story is something I have never seen. Great job Kearney, NE. You have created a wonderful way to retell history and literally make it come alive!

Excellent place to visit, very interesting we learned a lot about the expansion west plan one hour and a half to see everything if you check out the sod house and earth lodge plan for two hours

My wife and I enjoyed this place during our stay in Kearney. It covers the history of overland travel through the area...from the pioneers in wagons and handcarts to the modern-day traveler on Interstate 80. The fact that they built the thing over the interstate is kind of cool.
The displays are interesting and kept in great condition, and the gift shop is well stocked. I think it makes a great place to take a break if your traveling through, or if your like us, spending a few days in the area checking out the Sandhill Cranes in the spring.

Much more than expected- includes fort, wagon trains traveling west, pony express, rail road, Lincoln Hwy, interstate- audio set to narrate tour included with admission

I’ve tried to go to this museum 6 different times and it’s always closed. Today closed for maintenance. Lame. Open the museum and I’ll stop by.

We (me and my grandparents) visited at the end of September in 2022. We visited on a Friday first thing in the morning. Our expectations were not high and we were just looking for something to do in town before we continued on our way. But boy were our expectations blown away. We ended up spending close to 3 hours here. The tour took about 2 hours and had exhibits covering the early pioneers to the gold rush to the railroad to the Lincoln Highway/national highway system to present time.
Guests take self guided tours through the building using a hand held wand that will give presentations based on what exhibits you’re next to. So you can take the tour as fast or as slow as you want to.
All of the exhibits were well done and there were some rooms that would get dark and cold or have accompanying sounds (such as thunder, trains, etc) to add to the experience of the exhibits. Another unique feature of the monument was the windows at the end. At the end of the tour there were a few windows that looked out over the interstate which allowed you to watch passing by cars. There was also a radar that sat in one window catching the speeds of cars that passed by.
Outside of the monument they have some statues and accompanying plaques then across the road there is a quaint bridge that will take you across the river to more Buffalo displays as well as some historical buildings.
I really cannot say enough about this monument. I would recommend it to anyone who can wiggle it into their schedule. Even after visiting Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore some members of my group felt as though the monument was the best part of the trip. We live 7 hrs away and are already planning our next visit to the monument!

We weren't planning to visit but saw the brochure in our hotel. What a great museum. Even my teens enjoyed the pace of the walk through--didn't get bored and the technology to listen to the audio tour made it worth the stop. Outside is beautifully landscaped as well so it made for a nice stop

I gave it a very good review because it is worth a visit…especially for older kids as an introduction to this history. It was a little heavy on the Mormon stuff but I guess they need to appeal to that audience. Whenever I see Brigham Young memorialized it strikes me that they always leave out the really despicable person that he was!

After having visited multiple outdated and cheesy Pioneer museums in Nebraska over the last few days, I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. It was clean, modern and thorough. My 3 kids, ranging from 5 to 16 years old, all used the audio devices during the self tour and wanted to stop at every recording station (50+ of them). We were there about 90 minutes in all. The clean bathrooms and gift shop were a nice bonus and available to those who don't want the tour.
