So, lets be honest - Sal is a pretty featureless, small volcanic Island in the middle of the Atlantic. If - in the words of John Cleese - you are expecting to see the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Herds of Wildebeest roaming majestically across the Plain or Krakatoa erupting - then you will be very disappointed. Some of the sites are not at the level that can be seen elsewhere in the world although having baby sharks swimming around your legs or getting the chance to swim in salt lakes is pretty awesome.
But this trip does give you the chance to see the real Island, away from the holiday complexes, and to speak with real islanders - to learn about their real lives.
The tour guides (Thoms and Ishmael) were fantastic - open, informative and entertaining - happy to talk about much more than the tour sights.
So we left the tour (a full day at a very reasonable cost) knowing so much more about the Island and far more interestingly, the challenges of real Island life. That is an experience that is worth 5 stars and more!
But this trip does give you the chance to see the real Island, away from the holiday complexes, and to speak with real islanders - to learn about their real lives.

Vi valgte denne turen for å få en komprimert visning av øya. Vi ble plukket opp til avtalt tid utenfor hotellet og etter at alle var på plass, dro vi avgårde, først til saltproduksjon på vei til kite-stranda, der vår eminente sjåfør/turleder Carlos også viste sine kunster på balanselinen. Vi stod over zip-linen, og dro videre til neste stopp, ved piratskuta med klipper og god utsikt til Lions Mountain. Carlos var kunnskapsrik og siden vi satt inne i bilen, fikk vi ekstra igjen ved våre samtaler. Vi var videre på steder med luftspeiling før det bar til Espargos og derfra videre til fiskelandsbyen Palmeira der vi så fiskere i arbeid, samt spiste lunsj. Vi fikk se Blue Eye cave, så sitronhaier mens vi vasset i vannet i Shark bay før vi dro til Pedra Da Lume for å svømme i saltvannsbassengene. Deretter ble vi trygt fraktet hjem. Dette er en tur vi kan anbefale, komprimert men interessant. Guidene - vi var to biler - var veldig hyggelige og flinke, kjørte veldig hensysnfullt for dem som satt bak, og vi var svært fornøyd med opplegget.

Had a great day out, highlights were the sharks and the salt mine.
We didn't pay for the all included options (i.e. paid for lunch separately) it works about about 10 euros different.

Amazing half-day (well, 3/4 day) experience with our guide Kalu for the day. He took us around the entire island, driving over sand dunes and roads safely (the pick up truck had an outside area that some of the group sat in, and despite a little bit of sand dirt, there was never any danger of the driver going too fast so as to cause concern.) Kalu was very helpful, kind and fun which topped off the entire experience. There isn't really a lot to see at Sal, but the Blue Eye was the best stop off, where you could swim (3€ if not included in your ticket) and you could easily spend a day swimming there rather than the 45mins or so we were there. Just be careful of all the rocks and limescale which makes it slippery! There is also a 3€ rent charge for shoes for the lemon shark portion (if not included in your ticket) and safe to say they are needed. It's a very rocky terrain deep in to the shallow ocean (never went higher than the middle of my shins and I'm around 5'10/179cm) and you get to see some lemon sharks (they don't bite.) Pick up and drop off was seamless and punctual and the stop off for lunch was also enjoyable. A photographer was accompanying us and took photos of which we charged 20-25€ and they did come out well! However if you didn't want any you could politely decline and no harm no foul. Would definitely recommend

Esperienza negativissima.
Il prezzo è eccessivo, ovviamente gli squali sono li ma per quanto riguarda il resto, un disastro
25 min di mini bus per arrivare. Una volta sul posto vi hanno COSTRETTO a passare tra le bancarelle.
Siamo passati poi alla visita. Dopo averci fatto pagare altri 3 euro a persona per le scarpe(avevamo già delle scarpe ma per loro non erano adatte)siamo passati in acqua 5min. .
Una volta usciti bloccati fuori dal bus per permettere alla gente di vendere ancora oggettini per cifre assurde.
Pensano che i soldi ce li regalano.

We booked this from Victor on the resort beach, cheaper, and more is included than the tui option, obviously the money spent goes straight to the local economy. We paid €150 for four of us having a private tour with very knowledgeable and friendly guide (Danny). A few extras that Victor did tell us about: €3 pp for the shark bay shoes and guide, €5 pp for the salt lake (plus an extra €1 for a shower) and €3 pp for the blue eye entrance.
We all had a great day, the kids loved sitting in the back of the pick up and mum loved Danny driving slower like he'd promised. Particular highlights for us were: paddling with baby lemon sharks, floating in a salt lake, lunch at a local cafe (pre ordered via Danny so it was ready when we got there) and the fishermen bringing in their catch.
Would highly recommend, I'm sure if we had any thing we wanted to do that not included in the tour Danny would have happily taken us. He couldn't have done more for us, every question we had he knew the answer, a great way to explore and experience the island.
We all had a great day, the kids loved sitting in the back of the pick up and mum loved Danny driving slower like he'd promised. Particular highlights for us were: paddling with baby lemon sharks, floating in a salt lake, lunch at a local cafe (pre ordered via Danny so it was ready when we got there) and the fishermen bringing in their catch.

The trip was superb and we saw many interesting places like shark bay, blue eye, kite beach, salt mines, mirage, Espargos overlook and Palmeira where we had lunch at a charming local restaurant. Our guide was very friendly and had good knowledge about Sal and its history. Highly recommended!
