A very fun way to tour Charleston. Our guide, Bill was funny & informative. Our horse, Francis was a trouper throughout the streets of Charleston. My husband and I really enjoyed the experience. The company runs their tours very efficiently and effectively. The horses seem to be well kept too.

Good for first timers. Did not go on desired route due to carriage congestion. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. However. My two walking tour a much better value for the cost .

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston. It gave us an excellent overview of the city and its history and helped us decide where to focus our walks afterward. In addition, our tour guide Zach was really informative and funny.

Took two of these rides – the first one was excellent, five stars. The second one, two days later, was a giant ripoff, one star. The difference wasn't because of the driver or even Ol South Carriage. Here's the scoop.
For those who aren't familiar with the way the city of Charleston does things, when you take one of these carriage rides, the driver of the carriage has to "check in" with a city employee at the beginning of each trip. The city then assigns the drive their route for that particular one-hour ride based on a random drawing. This process happens every single trip, for every single carriage ride company. The purpose is to spread out these carriages throughout the city vs. having them all crammed together taking the same route. Makes sense.
Here's the problem. Our randomly assigned route on our first trip was wonderful, taking us through the best part of the town, along historic roads, houses, landmarks, etc. We loved it so much, we took our friends two days later, expecting the same experience. Wrong!
The second trip was assigned route 5A. It is a complete dud. It sent us through the absolute worst parts or downtown Charlotte, very little to no worthwhile stops. Our tour guide had very little material to work with – felt sorry for him. At one point, he even noted we were going "through the projects."
In conclusion, if you draw 5A, you got the short straw and you just wasted your money.

Excellent tour! Very fun, just 1 hour and a great way to get an overview and some history of Downtown Charleston. We did this tour on the day we arrived and then explored further the next day by foot. Our tour guide was full of information and we loved hearing the stories. Great tour and highly recommend.

This was a great way to start our day in Charleston. Our tour guide, Brie was very friendly, knowledgeable and able to answer all questions asked of her. The horse, Finn, was great and so well behaved.

Our tour guide was Mike and the carriage horse was Ryan. They were fantastic! We learned interesting facts about Charleston history and were brought through many different areas of Charleston, and considering that it was St Patrick’s Day, they did not skimp on our tour. I observed other tours as we traveled throughout the day on foot, and Charleston’s Old South Carriage Tours were more professional, engaging and the horses looked happy and healthy. We entered the stables as we boarded, and noticed that each horse had their own stable, and were well taken care of. Matter of fact, our horse Ryan was a character, engaging in the conversation with his driver. I wish I had taken pictures of him and of the tour. Well worth the cost! Very enjoyable and highly recommend this tour company.

We were very pleased with our tour! Janice was our guide, and she was very knowledgeable. Bill was our horse and did an excellent job! Everything was on time, and the company overall was very efficient. Would recommend highly!

is your tour within walking distane of the cruise port

Takes about 15 minutes to walk from the Cruise Terminal to Old South Carriage Tours. It’s all flat and with lots to see. You can also take a taxi in less than 6 minutes. Look on Google Maps for walking directions. I would suggest making reservations with Old South Carriage Tours ahead of time because they do get busy. Also walk through the City Market, short block from Old South Carriage, while your there to see local artisans and crafters as well as other tourist type items, well worth it.

Do you ever do early evening tours? We have reserved 11/28 st 9:30 a.m. but would really like on 11/26 at 5 or 6pm which is first day of our trip. Thanks for us letting know. Sally

Yes they do, it may be listed as the "Haunted" or Ghost tour. It isn't super scary but highlights cool ghost stories. We did both in one day and loved them both. (Two adults and three 19 year old daughters. )
