Of three walking tours, two houses, and two museums—the Black history tour was the premier activity during my week in Charleston. Dr. Fordham is professor, author and expert who continues to discover and rediscover lost (or expunged) history, and illuminate his readers and walkers with vibrant stories and music. If you only go on one walking tour in Charleston, whether you’re White, Brown or Black—you’ll enjoy this tour.

This was a great way to learn about Charleston. It was clear the guide cares deeply about the tour and has done lots of independent research. The stories were less “pat” than other similar tours and gave a more even handed version of history.

Our tour was so informative! Music added to our experience as well as humor. We learned so much about Charleston's African American/Slave history. Damon's stories gave us an uplifting record of the past amid the sorrow. He's an amazing storyteller and man!

The Lost Stories tour was great, not only entertaining but eye-opening. The guide was extremely informed and passionate about his subject matter. Fantastic insights into what our history books probably didn't tell us, especially about Reconstruction and the backlash that followed.

This tour is a must for anyone visiting Charleston. Damon Fordham's knowledge of the history of The Lost Stories of Black Charleston is unsurpassed. His retelling of the stories was dramatic, heartbreaking, and chilling. He truly brought the characters to life! I was left speechless at the end of the tour and I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Excellent.

The experience was literally one for the books. The Historian Mr. Fordham has written several books. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who loves pure unadulterated history. The rich culture of Charleston registered through it's historian Mr. Fordham. We cannot wait to encourage family and friends to experience the History of Charleston. You will not be disappointed. 😊

Lost Tours of Black Charleston is a lively, thoughtful, engaging and informative journey through this city's Black historical landmarks, landmarks which tell a story of African Americans' inextricably relationship and contributions to the making of Charleston's social, cultural and political life across the centuries. Our guide was warm, dynamic and generous. This tour is a must!

I can't recommend this more highly for visitors to Charleston like myself who would like to have a fuller history of the City's problems and progress in addressing its discriminatory past involving its black population, especially the roles of so many black residents who fought for their rights. Damon's academic research as well as his own personal connections to many of the stories made the experience particularly revealing and insightful. Very much worth doing.

2 hours touring spots in Charleston and hearing stories told by Professor Damon was time well spent! He clearly loves sharing what he has learned and I feel fortunate to have gotten a window into our important history by taking the tour. I highly recommend.
