我们的弗农山之旅很精彩，从游客中心拿到的小册子上，适合孩子们的活动很少，来这里参观让他们很感兴趣。如果能完成旅程的话，他们还能得到一点小奖励。我唯一的建议就是，别在大热天去。因为参观庄园要走很多路，天热的时候真是一种酷刑！

This was my third time to Mt. Vernon, but first time as an adult. It was just as wonderful this time as when I was a child. We enjoyed an usually warm day exploring the grounds and touring the house. Lovely museum and gift shop as well. Food court options and restaurant available, although we’ve didn’t eat there (packed our own food). Arrive early for the best parking. Also, if you plan to tour the house, tickets should be purchased online ahead of time and try to book early in the day. Our time scheduled to tour the house was 12:35 and the line was long and the house packed. That’s why I gave this rating 4/5 stars. It seems like the staff could make the flow of traffic better during the house tour and do some crowd control. Way too much standing in line. I am guessing if we could have gotten tickets for the first tour time of the day, this would not have been such an issue. Overall, a great visit with tons of history. Should be included in everyone’s D.C. trip!!

Recommend the Mansion tour as well as the Grounds Pass. Very good guides and enlightening stories of the enslaved people who essentially ran the Washington household in 1799. The view from the Mansion is amazing! The full museum at the Visitor Center is also highly recommended. Lunch offered a wide choice and we enjoyed it in the Food Court. The gift shop has a wide variety of souvenirs for all ages.

I took this tour while my husband was in a meeting. The house and grounds were beautiful. The guided portion of the tour was very informative. The guide was very knowledgeable. A great experience.

I attended Mount Vernon by Candlelight in December. After a brief welcome in the Orientation Center, we were escorted to the mansion. Inside George and Martha Washington welcomed us into their home, with the table prepared for dessert. After the tour, we could learn 18th century dances in the Greenhouse, visit Aladdin the camel and the Christmas Market, and then listen to the carolers in the Welcome Center. Food and beverages were for sale, but at the Welcome center, they offered us complimentary spiced cider and ginger cookies. It was a lovely evening.

Not run by the NPS but rather the MV Ladies Association (since about 1860) and they do a great job. Definitely do the guided Mansion Tour but make sure you leave plenty of time for all the outlying buildings (free audio tour). Also the museum and educational center are exceptional. So leave plenty of time here. Not sure about the shops and restaurant etc.

Came here many years ago before my kids were born and decided since they were old enough, I would bring them. I love how they have kept up with the grounds they are currently still doing renovations and this is still one of the most beautiful historic places I have ever been to. My kids completely appreciated it too.

The Grounds pass gives access to the house tour and the museum at the visitors center. Be sure not to miss the museum; it is truly excellent, both in telling the story of Washington and his ancestors but also in displaying interesting artifacts. The exhibit about Washington’s teeth was particularly fascinating.
Be sure to schedule the enslaved persons tour. Our guide Chris was exceptional, bringing light to the lives of the enslaved.
The house tour was mildly disappointing. It seemed rushed, most likely due to high demand. Our group was just too large for the space and our guide was not exceptional.

Mount Vernon is just a short drive from the US Capitol area, and well worth the visit. Buy tickets ahead of time as this is a popular spot for high school tours. Take time to wander the grounds and visit all of the museum areas by the gift shop complex as well.

Spent a few hours here. Make sure you book a time to visit the main house to fit in with your schedule. 26 $/adult. The tour og the house takes around 45 minuts. Well worth the time

Great trip and a solid day-long trip. If you move to the area, buy the yearly pass. Last I knew it was $119 for a couple, for one year access, and also special events. It's a great historical landmark that further reminds us of what it was like to live/suffer when our nation was young.

It looks as though Mount Vernon is not open during the summer. Correct? I've tried to buy tickets on the MV site and also on Trip Advisor, but the only calendar drop-down that is available on either one of them is November 30. Is there ANY access to grounds or mansion at this time? Really strange that there is no information available. Can you help? We plan to be there on Sept. 8.

We went in mid-July on a Saturday in late afternoon (arrived at 2:30-3pm) and bought our tickets on site. NO lines at all. There were maybe 10 people in the group that toured the mansion with us that afternoon. I think people mostly go in the morning to skip the afternoon heat - VERY hot that day! We did not see/look at everything and it still took nearly 2 hours (mansion/grave/outdoor buildings). The walk back from the grave is uphill and we took several breaks due to the heat.

If I choose the 4:30 tour, how long will we have access to the grounds? I see that the website says it closes down at 5PM in August, which is when we will go.

I suggest you go 2-3 hours before your scheduled tour time so you can look at everything else before your tour.

There is a shuttle from the mansion that runs every 15 minutes to/from the gristmill. The gristmill tour lasts about 30 minutes. It's worth it! No need to drive, but you can if you want to. It's about 10-15 minutes away.
Is it possible to tour Mt. Vernon today - with no previous reservation. We have a 5 hour layover at National Airport

I doubt it since when I bought my tickets we were given a specific time to enter the home.
You could go and just wonder the grounds and out buildings.
I would encourage you to rent a car -- it will take about 40 minutes to get there. Metro is not running out that way right now.

Per the Mount Vernon website, the Ford Orientation Center, Donald W. Reynolds Museum, the Education Center and Mount Vernon Inn complexes are wheelchair accessible.The first floor of the mansion is also wheelchair accessible. Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs and wheeled walkers are available free of charge inside the Ford Orientation Center on a first-come, first-served basis.You can call 703.780.2000 for more specific information.
Do you store suitcases onsite? I'll be headed to the airport from there.

According to Mt Vernon’s website, bags larger than 16x16x8 inches are prohibited. There is no mention of baggage storage so I would say the answer is no.
