Where do I begin? Nico and David made our dream holiday adventure into a reality. We completed the peak-to-peak sunrise hike. Both guides were professional yet extremely welcoming and friendly. They were punctual, kept fantastic communication with us until other time of our trip, were extremely knowledgeable throughout the hike and did everything they could to accommodate our needs. During the hike, the pace was adapted to suit our pace of walking and there was a good balance of information and quiet time provided, meaning we could learn whilst also having time to soak up the views and focus on the hike! We felt super safe throughout our experience and felt as though we had the ‘upper hand’ by having a tour guide (top tips for the walk, best parts of the island and a personal photographer!). Additionally, we stopped off at Santana on the way home and got to explore the village market as well as the famous sights. Lastly, our tour guide was able to capture a truly special moment for us, that will last a lifetime. We are ever grateful for the videography skills! Nothing was too much to ask and we could not recommend the team highly enough. We will never forget this experience! Thank you so much.

My experience with the Sunrise on Pico do Areeiro and hike to Pico Ruivo was absolutely outstanding. From the start, communication with Nico was clear and efficient, and they were incredibly accommodating when we had a slight change in our plans. They made sure everything went smoothly, adjusting to our needs without any hassle.
The guide, David, was exceptional. He made the hike enjoyable and safe, adjusting the pace. His extensive knowledge about the trail, local nature, ecosystem, and the history of Madeira was impressive and added a lot of value to the experience. I learned so much during the hike!
The hike itself was breathtaking, with stunning views that were truly unforgettable. We stopped in Santana on the way back to see the houses, which was a delightful addition to an already fantastic day. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Madeira with a professional and very friendly team!

Our guide had a lot of knowledge about the origins of the route and knew a lot about what you saw in the area. That made the fantastic views even more beautiful. It was an unforgettable experience.

David was courteous, warm, professional and attentive! Very good communication from time of initial booking, throughout. My teenage sons rated it as the best experience they had ever had on holiday (they are fortunate to have travelled widely). It is a challenging walk - I am 51 and in good health but not a hiker - however it was manageable and the views were magnificent!

We could not recommend this enough - it was by far the highlight of our trip to Madeira! David and Nico were both so very friendly. We were picked up (and dropped off) at our hotel in Funchal right on time, and communication was clear ahead of our journey. David lead us on the tour of the hike which was breathtaking, with the morning sunrise being the cherry on top. The views were incredible! The hike was quite a workout - I would recommend bringing a few bottles of water, some snacks, and a sandwich (there was one formal break, though the rest were on the go). The morning was a little chilly, so I wouldn’t recommend bringing a light jacket & sweater, which you can later take off and fold up into a back pack. Good shoes with grip are also essential. After the hike we also visited a cute little village called Santana which had cute shops, and featured traditional Madeira houses. David was a fantastic guide, very knowledge and very friendly. We could not recommend this enough and will be sure to partake again in future visits to Madeira!

The route was closed, so we were offered another route of similar length. It was a super good and beautiful route and the guide was very competent and good at telling and guiding us about the places we passed.

Great service from Nico and David at UpMountainMadeira. Nico was great at responding to messages before the day, and on the day David led a small team along the PR1 trail from Pico de Areiro to Pico Ruivo. David went out of his way to make time for each participant, and he shared a lot of useful information and kept the group moving at an appropriate pace with time for everybody to take pictures and have rests when needed. Awesome day, and the personalised service was amazing. Thank you so much, and I look forward to using the company again on my next trip to Madeira!

An absolutely amazing hiking tour. David was fantastic. He met us at the exact time specified and brought us to a secluded spot on the mountain at the start of the hike for the sunrise, away for the large crowd that gathered elsewhere just before dawn. We had the spot almost entirely to ourselves. That alone was worth the trip. He was a wonderful guide - so informative and so personable. From the start of our booking until the end of our hike, Nico was great setting up the tour and David was THE BEST guide you could ask for. We cannot recommend Up The Mountain enough!1 Don't hesitate if you are looking at different tour companies. CHOOSE UP THE MOUNTAIN!! You will not be disappointed. We plan on contacting Nico for other tours when we return to Madeira.

We had a really great experience doing the sunrise tour. The company has a ‘secret’ spot for the sunrise which was a lot quieter, less crowded and a much better photo opportunity. There were only 7 of us which is much better than the larger tours as it meant you’re not waiting around. The payment and booking was super easy with no problems at all. We paid on PayPal which was helpful too as we didn’t bring much cash. The pick up was on time and the estimated time of the tour was also correct. The guide knows a lot of facts about Madeira and speaks great English. As we were in a different spot for the sunrise it also meant we were ahead of the other tours for the ascent so we weren’t stuck behind people as it does get busy. Really great experience and really well priced! We would definitely recommend booking a trip with them.

10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting Madeira! The views were breathtaking and were like something out of a movie! Unfortunately we did not get to see the sunrise as the cloud cover was too great but the views were beautiful anyway.
A special shout out to our driver and tour guide ‘David’, who was very down to earth, friendly, patient, and knowledgeable about Pico Do Airerio and Pico Ruivo, as well as the island itself. He definitely made the experience more special.
The hike itself took us a total of 5 hours to complete and was very challenging at times, especially the metal stairs on the side of the mountain up to Pico Ruivo but is more than doable. I would recommend to make sure that you have a moderate to high fitness level.
However, our tour guide David went at a steady pace, with regular stops if needed. He was very patient, and did not rush us at all. He was there every step of the way and made sure to check on each of us regularly to make sure we were okay, and waited for us to catch up at difficult points of the hike.
On the way back, we stopped off at Santana for a coffee and to stretch our legs, which was great as it was not specified on the itinerary.
Overall 10/10 a must do!!!!
