At first excited but disappointed at last

Booked the 2 days tour.
1st day went ahead as planned even the guide came late fetching. Reached hotel as planned but received late text that the 2nd day tour to the West was cancelled as the driver/guide was down with Covid.

Long story cut short. At 10pm, there was no way i can secure any other tour for the next day. Luckily, i brought along my international driving license. Rented a car the next day but i have to pay €128.50 for this last minute rental to secure the car at 10am.

Although this operator refunded half the fare but this should not be the way to spoil your visitors' plan visiting your lovely island. No standby, no replacement, just cancel and take the refund and you are left stranded. Lesson learnt, i will make it a habit checking about contingency plans all operators have.

We have used Viator/Tripadvisor small group tours on many holidays, always excellent, and the ultimate 2 day tour was for us the ultimate tour
I would recommend anyone taking this tour to have Renato Rodrigues as their driver/tour guide, because he gave us 2 interesting and memorable days. His extensive knowledge of the island and his way of interacting with his passengers meant that he was always able to answer our numerous questions, and we returned home with a much greater knowledge of Madeira even though we had made previous visits.
If we had to choose, we preferred the West tour as the weather was better, but we enjoyed the East side as well.
