This was a truly pleasant trip. The lighthouse is run by volunteers I believe, and they are greatly knowledgeable about the history of the house and of the Great Lakes as well. The climb to the top of the tower really isn’t bad at all, and the view of the lake was remarkable. Glad I was able to go and I encourage others to make the trip as well!

No longer a working light and not as tall as other lights I’ve been to, but it has an unusually large keepers house. It was raised at one point, explaining the 2 exterior styles. Knowledgeable docent with information about the area and light history.
Only open limited hours on the weekend; plan ahead to climb the light.

The museum contained a nice balance of historical artifacts and informative museum labels. The Lighthouse steps are easy to navigate and the view is worth the climb. It was a lovely way to begin a leisurely Sunday afternoon visit to Milwaukee with out of town guests.

Beautiful lighthouse and educational display in the museum. I never knew it existed before. Pleased we were able to climb the lighthouse for a dramatic view of Lake Michigan's coastline.

The North Point lighthouse is an appealing structure, tucked away in an almost unnoticeable park on the bluff north of the Milwaukee Harbor. The museum offers fascinating information about lighthouse lenses, former lighthouse keepers, shipbuilding, and some of the vessels & crews lost in the lake. I loved learning that a woman, Georgia Stebbins, served as Lighthouse Keeper in the 1880s. She hauled barrels of mineral oil up to the top of the lighthouse every four hours every night for over 26 years! An excellent panoramic view of Milwaukee and the entire lake shore is the reward for climbing the circular stairs and ladder to the top. There is a paved walkway along the bluff that runs past an elegant statue of Brig Gen Erasmus Walcot, Surgeon General of Wisconsin during the Civil War and thereafter, mounted in his horse. A few few hiking trails and stairways afford access to the lake level. The walk past the small Lake Park waterfall is appealing.

It's wonderful you really explored our lighthouse museum and it's surroundings! I hope the weather cooperated so you could enjoy the fabulous view from the top of the lighthouse tower.

The lighthouse is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area but it's beyond walking distance from downtown. If you have a car and its a nice day, the drive along the lake front and the architecture in the Lake Park District make a trip to the lighthouse more than worthwhile. Not sure whether there is a bus. But on Untapped Tours which I highly recommend, Mike takes you to the lighthouse.

I had 36 hours on my first trip to Milwaukee and chiefly was interested in Frank Lloyd Wright designs. But on the way from one to the other, I passed the North Point Lighthouse. It was a lovely slice of New England in the fall color; the museum was interesting and the docents were friendly; and the climb to the lantern was relatively easy. Great view. Don't miss it.

We're so very glad you enjoyed your visit to North Point Lighthouse Museum! Our volunteer docents are available to give tours of our museum during our open hours. It's truly a wonderful place to visit. We're in beautiful Lake Park, designed by famous landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park in NYC.

Is the park and lighthouse open during the week in October? Not sure what day we would be there. If it isn't open, can you go to the park and see the lighthouse from the outside?

The lighthouse is not open to go inside on a weekday in the fall. Only Sat & Sun from 1-4 year-round. The park and trails are open all the time.
