Peggy saved New Orleans for my husband and me. She is why I will return and enjoy my next visit.

I was already in New Orleans for 8 days and could not wait to leave. I had such high hopes for the city and just couldn’t get past the layers of tourism and stink of the French Quarter. My husband wanted to go on the Katrina tour so reluctantly I booked it for late in our stay. He wanted to understand the levee system and what failed, I didn’t want to be a gawker.

Enter Peggy. She is why I will go back to New Orleans. She is the only reason why I now understand this city and didn’t leave bitter about the whole experience. It's hard to put into words how much of an impact she or pinpoint exactly what she did or said but helped reveal the heartbeat of NOLA to us.

The stories she told were not textbook, they were lived. We were able to see and understand through Peggy's eyes the resiliency of the city and how there is so much more to it than Bourban Street. Peggy peeled away the tourism onion of New Orleans to help us me to see the humanity of the city.

She is now a legend. Her name is synonymous with New Orleans. She is New Orleans. When we tell our experience of New Orleans we start with, “We hated New Orleans till we met Peggy”. We had done all the things that we were supposed to do as tourists in NOLA and we desperately trying to understand what makes New Orleans tick.

Not only did Peggy give us the history behind Katrina she also told me about the Real New Orleans. I can’t even put into words how much of an impact she had one my husband and me. She saved New Orleans from being the worst place I’ve been to one the best, and this is saying a lot as we are full time RVers and have seen a lot of different places.

I am advising friends who are going to visit New Orleans for spring break to start with Peggy.

WOW! We are truly honored that our guide, Peggy, could show you the "Real New Orleans," to quote you. We are proud that this local could show you what it means to live in this city and be New Orleans. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we cannot wait to see you again!

It’s been a while since Katrina, but New Orleans will never forget the horrible effects of that storm. Gray Line has a great tour that takes you around the flood areas and brings all that you saw on tv to life. The tour guide, Bruce Nolan, was part of the Pulitzer-winning team from the Times-Picayune who reported on the disaster and he was there for all of it. His personal stories are very moving and his insight into what happened is very informative. Great tour!

I never had a good understanding of what really happened in New Orleans. National news media had a lot of blurs but didn't explain the details. George did a super job filling in details. It was most interesting to hear how the various government agencies handled (or didn't handle) the problems created by such a disaster. I never gave much thought to how such a "complete" disaster will affect a community. His insights into the effects of government programs was most interesting.

I never really understood he problems that happened after Hurricane Katrina. When we decided to spend a week in New Orleans, I was excited to take the chance to finally understand. Bruce gave us an excellent tour of the Katrina sights and explained everything, as he was a journalist here covering the story and living through all of it. Great tour from a smart and articulate story teller. Worth the money.

We had Bill as a tour guide. Bill was a newcaster in New Orleans when Katrina hit and for a time after. He had a lot of first hand knowledge of what happened before/during the storm, as well as insights into what recovery looked like and what residents looked like. In addition to the stories, he also had photos he passed around the bus to give us more first hand accounting.

The tour included several stops, a Katrina memorial by the cemetery, a lighthouse, and a memorial at the site of destruction. I surprisingly liked the lighthouse the best. They had a lot of interesting information about the shoreline and environmental factors that contributed to the destruction of Katrina. The lighthouse is a small non-profit that does research, staff with kind and knowledgeable employees. Note: The bus steps were steep, the legroom in the seats wasn't great, and you were on and off the bus several times. My dad's had several knee surgeries and I don't think I'd recommend the tour to him for that reason.

A fascinating tour with a very knowledgeable and entertaining local guide. The only improvement would be to change the policy preventing the tour from going to the lower ninth ward and see some of the more controversial aspects of the aftermath of Katrina. Richard, Sydney Australia

Peggy was our tour guide. She was informative, touching, and even shared her own Hurricane Katrina sorry at the end. Highly recommend this tour if you want to know more about Katrina and how Louisiana was affected by it. Four hours long, with four stops. Bring snack!

Bill was our tour guide and was there when Katrina hit and was a new reporter and saw it all first hand. He was so good and we learned a lot. His personal insight was an eye opener and we could not recommend him and the tour enough! Thanks Bill.

Bruce Nolan was incredible Guide, a retired reporter with incredible knowledge, we have no idea how Gray Line attracts such talent. After this tour I finally understand what happened here in New Orleans, how levees work and we had an unexpected tour of Lake Pontchartrain. Excellent afternoon, however, do not expect to see any remnants of damage or devastated neighbourhoods. Either rebuilt or off limits to respect the residents of the poorer areas in Ninth Ward.
