We were very lucky to find this tour on Christmas Eve. This company is very different from the usual New Orleans vampire/haunted made up tours. As our guide rightfully said, the real history is so terrible that one does not need to come up with paranormal stuff. Our guide was Dave Tomas, New Orleans musician with the deep knowledge and love of this multi pot of a city. Not only Dave modified his tour per our request to add literally, music and JFK assassination highlights, he also gave us local tips on the best music venues and restaurants in the city. The dinner in Brightsen’s, in the residential area away from the tourist crowds, was the most memorable meal we had in New Orleans! Can’t wait to go back and take other tours with this company!

Our guide was charming and informative but I had expected this tour to be more of a city walking tour and learn about the music and culture in New Orleans. Instead, we walked around Armstrong Park for 1 hour and 20 minutes viewing statues of various Artists in the park. While it was educational, my teens were totally bored. The last 20 minutes was more enjoyable as we walked around city and our lovely guide pointed out some areas to explore further. My expectation was perhaps based unfairly on the excellent walking tour in Havana where we actually explored the arts, culture and music as we walked around the city.

Our guide Margie was entertaining and informative. A musician herself, her love of music and New Orleans showed in her presentation. She had many interesting anecdotes about New Orleans music history.

This was the first tour we did on the first day of our 4-day visit in NOLA. There were only 4 of us and I wondered why...I think the title sounds bland as opposed to other music tours in NOLA. However, the time period was right for this one and not the others so off we went. I’d been expecting a bit more historical info, and more on the jazz greats who were born or lived here, but the concentration was only in the last 70 years or so and covered more “popular” music than jazz. I enjoyed the music selections played by our guide, and he had obviously planned out the tour to be able to access them easily and right away on his portable devices.

Dave is a musician in New Orleans and he is very knowledgeable about its history. We learned a lot about NOLA’s music as well as it’s general history. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A nice two hour stroll through the French Quarter and nearby. Lots of history of the people, the city and the music. Don't wait to ask questions, your guide won't take his first breath until about an hour in.

I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting New Orleans who wants to learn about music and not just jazz but all kinds. This tour made our jazz fest experience a lot better than it would have been.

It was very obvious that our guide was an extremely skilled and knowledgeable musician and author. I found the tour fascinating but my non musical, foreign born partner was completely bored. If you have musical background this tour is for you!!!

New Orleans is definitely the music city and there's so much of it that it helps a lot to take this tour. Not just about jazz but gospel, rock n roll, bounce music and more.

We want to take a jazz music tour (to hear jazz music - we have our two teenage musicians with us), so I was looking at the Jazz tour with beer - but clearly this excludes Under 21s. So keen to know if this tour would be a good substitute).
