      Just okay, try to find something more interesting

      Of the many excursions we’ve been on, this one was just okay. On a small bus with 20 other tourists. It was a rainy day so the windows fogged up. The driver put on the defrost that blasted freezing cold air at anyone who sat beside the window. (Me one of them) until the girl in front of me had enough and complained. They handed out paper towels so we could wipe the windows etc… So the stops were at a couple of waterfalls and a some viewing spots. Being from British Columbia, we’ve seen a lot of beautiful scenery like this already. The driver was just okay. His banter and information was the no-frill kind. I think we got spoiled at our last Private Excursion with such an animated guide and the interesting spots. Anyways, it was a ride to the Alaska sign and back, that’s about it. We took photos at the sign, but when we got back we all agreed, we should have found a Private Guide, they seem to put more effort into the tour. We had our passports ready at the order, but no one at the border crossing felt the need the check.

      Thank you for your feedback. Sorry the weather was particularly rainy that day and the windows got foggy. Usually we have great feedback on our guides but perhaps he was having an off day. We are sorry you did not enjoy your tour experience with us as much as your private tour. Being from British Columbia you are certainly used to beautiful scenery as well so it sounds like it was not as great views as you were expecting and the weather can also make the views less than desired.       TOUR GUIDE WAS TERRIBLE

      We booked this tour through Princess Cruises. The Bus Driver's name was Gary. He did tell us his name but very little else. He was from Ohio and working in Skagway for the summer season. He drove us up the Klondike Hwy for a while and then turned around, with no explanation, and drove to and stopped at a Lookout. He didn't say how long we had there just let us off to roam. We overheard other drivers telling people all about Skagway and pointing out landmarks etc. We then were taken to the old cemetery. Dropped off and told to look for Frank Reid and 'Sophie" Smith's graves as they had killed each other in a gun battle. We all walked around aimlessly and only found the graves as we overheard another guide telling people the story of the gun battle and the guys nickname was "soapy". We then were driven back into town to go and watch the Days of '98 show. The driver warned all the men to sit up the back of the theatre as the show folk drag you up and dress you in silly outfits. We found the show quite entertaining for a amateur show. We got the story about Frank Reid and Soapy Smith which the Bus driver could have filled us in with. There would have been a lot more interaction from the audience if they weren't scared to say anything, thinking they would be taken up on stage and made a fool of. That was not the case and it was all a bit of fun. If that driver had told us about Skagway and pointed things out it would have been an interesting tour. I can't recommend this one. Walk into town and do the Days of '98 Show on your own.

      This review is not about our tour. This person did not take our tour. Our tour is not sold on Princess cruise and does not include the Days of '98 show. This guide Gary does not work for us. Our guides are very knowledgeable and give a thorough narration during the tour. If you do book our tour through TripAdvisor or Viator or direct through us you will have a much better experience than this person had booking with Princess.

      Great trip
      Beverly was our guide and she was great. We had time for photos at each of the stops. She explained local geology, interesting stories, and Alaskan culture. Pickup at the cruise port was easy and we had the option of being dropped off in town or back at the port.

      Great for the $

      The guide was wonderful, very informative, much more hands-on than the larger things like the train. Everything was great except the fog and clouds on top, which is not the fault of the tour.

      Awesome scenery &waterfalls
      Chris and his crew were able to assist with my husband's scooter, which allowed us to get on the tour bus. Our tour guide was delightful and very knowledgeable about the area.
      We loved the walk to the waterfall near the cemetery (even though my husband stayed on the bus). The drive through pass to Canada was well worth the time and allowed for stops along the way to get great pictures.

      Our tour guide, Beverly, made the experience both enjoyable and educational. She was personable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. It was interesting to learn about the history of the Skagway area and also, of course, to see the beautiful scenery.

      Excellent. Trip
      Excellent trip, the weather played a bit with clouds and rain but that didn't dampen our spirits. We were 9 people (3 families) who were visiting on Princess Alaska cruise. Our driver Beverley Soja was amazing, She gave us a preview of Gold rush that happened in this region more than a century ago. She was knowledgeable and stopped at very beautiful views points. On the whole it was 2 hrs and 45 mins well spent.

      Great for a quick overview and intro to the city/area.

      I did two separate tours - one a minibus excursion to the summit and the other a city tour in a historic yellow bus. Both were great and since it was a perfect weather day, the sights were beautiful. Having been to Skagway before, I wanted something simple and scenic and these both fit the bill. First, the summit drive was driven/narrated by Haley and she was excellent. Very knowledgeable and personable and had been doing this for several years. There were several stops along the way for photo opportunities, including one at the summit to take photos at the Welcome to Alaska sign. She provided lots of information on living in Skagway and local life. The second tour on the historic bus was with Granger as the driver/narrator and he was also terrific. A young man studying medicine in AZ, this was his first season in Alaska and his flare for the dramatic makes him a perfect fit for the story telling he was doing - very entertaining. (I would suggest he study up on some of the 'facts' he was providing since for example, at one point he told us that a flight from Skagway to Juneau would cost one $25,000 and I questioned him on this since on the morning tour we'd discussed the same thing and learned it would be $250 which is much more reasonable. He said he thinks the morning narrator dropped a few zeros, but I've since checked and indeed, he was the one with the incorrect information. As a tour guide myself, I'd caution him to be mindful of knowing what he's talking about before he presents it as fact!)

      Mike is a great tour guide!
      It’s always interesting to see how towns deal with ‘boom and bust’ periods.

      I’m glad to see Skagway capitalize on the short time of boom.

      If I had a tour company, I’d hire Mike away from you.

      This train trip was so much fun! The conductors were very informative and interesting. The scenery was so beautiful. This is Alaska. The train has a bathroom in every car so no worries there. Bring snacks with you and something to drink..

      Glad you liked the train but this is not our tour, the White Pass Summit and Skagway City Tour. Our tour is roundtrip by mini-bus and goes to White Pass by highway and includes stops at the Skagway Scenic Overlook and Gold Rush Cemetery. There is no train on this tour.
