We booked and paid for a tour of the town of Newport and 2 mansions months before our visit .We were told to meet at the Historic Tours office at 9:45am for a 10:00 am tour. We arrived by uber at 9:45am. The office was closed and at 10:00 am no one had turned up at the office so we started calling the number provided by them... no answer!! At 10:05am I just happened to check my email and saw Historic Tours of Newport emailed me that our money, except for $17 would be refunded. They never called us as we were right outside their office. They didn’t have the professionalism you would expect from a legitimate company to call and say our tour was cancelled... no word from them! They never returned our call or acknowledged us as good faithed customers. We then had to uber back to the port where our cruise ship came in to try to find another tour as we were in Newport for just a few hours. Do not book with this company! When we went to the visitors center of Newport and told them what had happened, they were not surprised... they said they heard stories like ours regarding this company all the time. They said it was a sketchy company! So we not only had to spend money on a round trip uber ride to their office, but we were left scrambling looking for room on another tour! Historic Tours of Newport is an unprofessional scam of a company! I have nothing good to say about them! The Better Business Bureau should really look into the dealings of this company! Don’t count on them pto come through with their business of being a tour company! The trolley tours of the city and mansions was excellent in their place! i cannot say I wasn't warned. There were some reviews from 2016 that warned me but there were some later reviews that were better and some notes from the management saying that the other company with the similar name went out of business in 2016. I'm very suspicious that they are the same people who are the same crooks. I booked this 6 weeks in advance. I called them to be sure that they were really in business and to inquire about their location relative to the cruise ship docks and they assured me that they were very close on the green where we docked. It sounded like a business suffering from bad reviews due to mistaken identity. Then, when I was about 2 days into my cruise with no internet and and spotty cell phone service , we got a text message informing us that the tour was cancelled. I called them twice from the next port and left messages and they did not return my call. I asked them for other suggestions or if they had another tour they could offer and let them know I was very displeased. I suspected that since it turned out to be a cruise ship day, they had gotten a chance to get more money by selling themselves to a cruise ship to handle excess bookings but felt that, if that were the case, they could have saved 2 places for us. I did see a yellow and blue bus like the one pictured in the parking lot near one of the mansions so I don't know what exactly went on. All I know is that they cancelled on me with no explanation, no apology, no return calls or messages and NO REFUND to date. It has been 2 weeks since they cancelled. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE If I don't hear from them in 3 more days, I'll be calling the city of Newport and their Chamber of Commerce. I will also be reporting this as a fraud to anybody I can find with authority.

We were most unhappy to get late notice (little over an hour before departure) about the trip cancellation without any explanation. Found it very unprofessional—I responded and got no response. I suggest you try a different company! We brought relatives from AZ especially for this tour.

Terrible service!!! I would never book with them again. I booked well in advance, we came to Newport and around 9:30 pm the night before our tour I get a text canceling our reservation with a lame excuse. I text asking what am I to do now? No one even bothered to answer. I had to find something else to do for us for the day. This was a Memorial Day weekend and everything was already booked for that day. We ended up doing the mentions on our own and taking the trolley tour the next day.

The tour itself was nice. Greg, the tour guide was fun and informative. He took me on a 75-90 minute drive and tour around Newport, then gave me a choice of 2 mansions to view, which, at Christmas time was extra beautiful. The audio tours are included in the price of admission to the mansions which I felt very helpful.
There were a couple of things I felt could be improved: The on-line sign-up was easy, but the map on the website showed downtown Newport near the visitors center. Yet the meeting place was 10 minutes away in Middletown. Why it can't leave from downtown is unclear and confusing. One could easily conclude that it leaves from the main visitors center. Because of this and the fact that at this time of year, the company is only open Thursday thru Sunday may explain the conclusion of a previous reviewer that the company was out of business.
Once I got to the Middletown commons from where the tour was to leave, I had difficulty finding the office. The sign to the complex didn't have a "Historic Newport Tours" slot and I even though I was told by the owner that it was on the R side of the complex, I still couldn't find it until I stopped by a hair salon and they walked me to the actual SIDE of the building. My oversight, but most storefronts are on the front or back of a building- it didn't occur to me to literally look at the side. More signs are needed! The owner also needs to be more customer-friendly on the phone. She seemed impatient and curt, both to me and the concierge at my hotel when she tried to contact her.

Thank you very much for taking time to write to us. We are located at HTN Visitor Center,850 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown Commons,RI. We moved here mid of 2018, mainly to provide a better service to our customers. Although its about 8 minutes from downtown, during the peak season our customers appreciate the free parking we provide and simply the ambiance of more relaxed and friendly environment instead of a dreary Public Transportation Center. The businesses around his complex look out for each other, thus we are used to providing directions to guests.
The Complex has restrictions about placing signs by the road, which we agree will be helpful.
Thank you very much or our feedback, we depend on industrious customers like you to continuously improve our service...Thank you and see you soon at our Visitor Center!:)

Out of business - CLOSED!!!!!
I booked a double mansion tour, called them to chat about the tour. They said more tours would be available shortly and they would inform me when they were available. I received a text stating tours were available, I logged on and booked a tour. I’ve arrived for the tour at the meeting location and have since discovered they are probably no longer in business. I called a few times, left messages and received no notification of a cancelled tour and haven’t received a refund.
It appears my money has been stolen by this company and they appear to be out of business.

Historic Tours of Newport is here to stay. I am afraid you have got us confused with other company. Historic Tours of Newport ran tours all Nov and December of 2018. We are open now for upcoming 2019 season! Are you a legitimate complainant?, because our call logs doesn't indicate calls being received.
