It was a cold and rainy day, called ahead and asked if we would be able to see anything in such weather. We were told yes, we'd see a lot, including some waterfalls that weren't normally active. We were disappointed to see very little, rain covered the outside of the windows and the insides were all fogged up. We kept wiping off the windows but it was a losing battle. It was chilly in the train, and sitting outside in the cold and rain wasn't practical. Feeling ripped off by the trip and information we were given on the phone.

The views are spectacular. The train ride was comfortable. The staff was very tentative to our group of 4. A snack tray, water and champagne came complimentary.

Overall, the experience was positive. Our steward, DJ, was very personable and easy to talk to. The scenery was beautiful and the cars were incredibly relaxing. The snack was actually quite substantial and took the place of our lunch. We learned a lot and spent a great 4 hours on the trip.

The day was rainy & 52. Tried to change days but all booked that we could change to as we are on vacation. Unless they cancel for weather you can’t get your money back if you cancel unless 24 hours before. Box lunch was good and included in your ticket. Since you have to check in 1 hr and 15 minutes before ride it’s a long wait in the rain and cold weather. Tables and chairs to eat are outside. Was miserable. Small area covered. You can wait in gift shop but I can’t stand that long because of leg issues. There is a small enclosed museum. There are indoor and outdoor cars. As most of us stayed indoors, the narrator, Royce, our narrator, ran back and forth to let us know points of interest. He was great! There were speakers inside to listen to recorded information also but people talking loud kinda spoiled that. Restrooms on board. Cheese, meat, fruit trays. The bar was great! Seats were very comfortable. Views were a little dull with the rain. Train goes to a certain point and then they change the engines and you go back same way. A little long.

We were surprised and pleased with this experience. Our car was full, and our attendant was attentive and efficient with our beverages. We were surprised with the boxed lunch provided (perfect with wine, as it was meat, cheese, crackers.) The ride was smooth, the scenery was interesting, beautiful and captivating. There were a couple of times that we were informed of an upcoming picture opportunity, which meant you could go to the open car to capture the scene.
Overall, this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon, with friendly and nice people on the train.

We loved it. Four hours when the world seems to slow down. A time to sit back, exhale, and just enjoy the 12 mph ride through country that sees humans only rarely. The first half hour is not particularly scenic, but it’s pleasant and calming. Farther in, it’s gorgeous. The staff on board are great—friendly and informative. Somehow, we signed up for a meal before the train ride; we didn’t need it, because with the ticket we bought, we were presented with a great meal—cheese, crackers, meat, fruit, dessert—once we got on board. Either get the meal before the ride, or during, not both. Drinks available on board. The train ride would be great for a group or an event—you could rent an entire train car for a four hour party.

The train ride was a fun adventure. All the staff were friendly and helpful . The place is run very efficiently. Train songs played throughout the 40-mile journey, and at times, a narrator spoke about the history and sites outside. The interior of the train was clean, a full bar and bathroom in each car. The bartender also pointed out sites along the way. The ride was very comfortable. We went friends and we all enjoyed the ride and the scenery. Would definitely do it again.

This train ride was SO MUCH FUN! 4 hours. Comfortable seating. Bar car. Delicious snack included. Beautiful scenery. Outside viewing car. Fun music. Every song was about a train! The canyon was amazing. Our hostess was wonderful. We hated when it was over.

It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Everything was well organized. Our host on the train was very helpful and informative. The scenery was magnificent. Well worth the time.

Suggest you contact the railroad; this is the Trip Advisor member question/answer area and I doubt anyone knows the answer to your question.
How about Saturday the 27th? What is the elevation?
Clarksdale station is roughly 3400 feet and the track gradually climbs Verde River Canyon for 20 miles. I would estimate that at the crest it might be 4500 feet, so it's not very high compared to Flagstaff.
