Tigaki Kos Island tour

The Tigaki tours Kos island tour was well worth doing - it misses out Kos town as you can get there easily by bus but other resorts and places are slightly more time consuming to get to without either taking a tour or hiring a car. The Island tour really packed it in with a start at the archaeological ruins of Asklepion which are rather more complete than other sites around the island. There is an 8 euro entry cost but the tour company was completely up-front about the need to pay entrance fees 'on top'. Next it was off into the mountain village of Nikia where the local population must be overwhelmed by tourists, tavernas and tat shops. Back to the bus and onwards to the fountain at Pilli with stories of Greek mythology and facts about Greek life along the way from our interesting guide . Right to the bottom of the island ,stopping at a honey factory on the way, to Kephalos where we stopped at Valerie's taverna for dinner - again a choice of whether to purchase lunch or swim in the bay [or indeed find another place to eat). The Taverna was great value and very efficient seeing as a coach load of tourists had just arrived but the food was fantastic quality and obviously freshly cooked. Finally a journey to Antimachia where there is a choice of Greek windmill or traditional home to visit. There wasn't enough time to do both as the windmill not only showed you the workings of the sails but provided samples of goods to try there and to take away as a tourist treat (along with a fridge magnet and bread sticks). Pick up portion of the tour was around 40 minutes and drop off is in the same order so if you had the full tour on the way out, you diddn't repeat it on the way back. Highly recommended!

Lovely island, people are very friendly, trip was well worth it. The views are out of this world, sea very clear, if you go and have a meal the food is lovely.
