We did the Highlights of Kefalonia tour with tastes of local delights. Maria M was our guide and she was absolutely fantastic! Maria was articulate, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. She shared her love of Kefalonia and truly brought us into her culture. We booked this tour as an excursion of our cruise; and the rate we had here was less than the excursion price of the cruise line. The tour itself was so enjoyable from beginning to end. The Melissani Lake tour was brief (15-20 min) but so worth the beauty you will enjoy .... the turquoise blue of the water is so breathtaking! The stop in the small village with wine/olive oil/honey tasting of the local area was a great treat. We made some fabulous purchases .. taste the Kumquat honey!! We highly recommend this visit/experience.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to these caves in Kefalonia. Buying entrance tickets for both caves gives a discount.

Sandra is a perfect tour guide she handled two languages perfectly. Very good manage of time and people. The driver was very careful through very hilly roads. Not to mention the caves and scenery.

Went as part of a cruise tour. The first part was a 15 minute wait to walk down a steep cave entrance to some rowboats that held about 14 each. A man rowed around for about 15 minutes - which goes by too quickly. The water is crystal clear and the cave is stunning - the water is very cold. Ensure that you have your camera/phone secured before you try to get on the boat - the guide told us people drop them into the water all the time. Then we had a short drive to a cave with 165 steps - it was a bit slippery and very uneven. The cave was ok - rather small compared to other caves I'v been in, but it was interesting.

A couple of points you might want to know before you sign-up to go. If you are arriving by cruise ship and hoping to avoid those BIG cruise ship tours with 40+ people, this tour will not provide you with a small group experience. The company, Avalon Travel joins with other companies such as Viator, TA, etc. to fill up each bus to max capacity, so this isn't a small group! Every seat was taken on a large bus. And waiting for group members who decide they don't need to be back to the bus on time was annoying. It will however save you some money from cruise ship prices but might not be completely comparable.
This trip requires a lot of bus travel! There are two main sights - Drogarati Cave which depending on the number of other buses attending when you arrive, you may take time in line to get down to the cave, where a maximum of 15 minutes will suffice to see it all. (Not suitable for those with mobility issues - lots of steps which can be slippery) As far as caves go, this one is pretty dead, due to all the high traffic it sees and visitors touching/breaking off the stalagmites/stalactites. Large yes, but not that impressive in my opinion.
The second main sight: Melissani Lake - again as several TA reviewers indicate may also have a very long line - our guide indicated 1-2 hours during high season, for just about 15 minutes in a boat. Yes it is truly lovely but would I wait in line more than a hour to see it - a firm NO! We went in October - lines were short at both attractions. Yes be prepared to tip your boatman - ours was not obnoxious as indicated by other TA reviewers.
The final stop is a quick beautiful view point - 10 minutes max.
So my point is you drive for 2 -2 1/2 hours for a quick visit to a cave, lake and viewpoint. Avalon Travel via TA makes this known - nothing hidden, its well described in their website and on TA and Viator. I give it 4 stars because it's presented honestly. Also sign-up was easy and communications from TA were good. The bus was waiting right outside the cruise terminal. However, full buses and long rides through narrow winding roads was not what I was hoping for. So be sure to read carefully!

Isidora lykoudi our guide was wonderful. Hx, botony- she picked snd showed us, geology and very caring with good humor. Comfortable 18 seat minibus and 15 of us. The tour ran on time, included some surprise sites. Great wine tasting and i don’t drink wine. Lots of stops for photos. The caves were much much better than expected and actually a lot of fun. Self pay lunch at the resort where a movie was shot. Some people swam. We had gyro for 13euros. 2 of us shared and lots of food and very excellent. Excellent value. I tecommend .

Really overpriced.
You queue for an hour or more just for a 5 minute boat trip.
Sure, it can look spectacular if it weren’t crowded but just look at the faces of the people coming out afterwards and you’ll see how they look as if they’ve been ripped off.
Honestly, this is just not worthwhile.

Two very different stalactite hells both are special.
In one you are even driven through by boat .
The second is a huge hell with great lighting. The combination ticket costs 13€ per person and that's fine

Scarpe da ginnastica molto consigliate. Non necessario alcun capo sopra alla maglietta, almeno in estate (pantaloni corti e polo sono perfetti)
