This place is not worth the money. It’s an unguided hike where we saw ZERO animals. Not even birds. The sloth and butterfly enclosures are in need of updating. Waste of time and money. In addition, the roadway leading to the park is treacherous. For the amount of money they are charging, they could fix the road.

We visited primarily in hopes of seeing animals and birds during the hanging bridges canopy tour. Unfortunately, we saw none. Although the ziplines themselves were great, the staff rushed us through each so fast, we couldn't even watch each other travel down any of the zip lines. We did a different zip line the day prior which was more enjoyable. We enjoyed the butterfly gardens.

tldr: would recommend the all day package. expensive, but worth it.
I booked the all day pack which includes ziplining, treetop walkways, and 3 exhibits (sloths, butterflies, and reptiles). Although I considered it pretty expensive for our group of 7 (ages 21-72), I'm glad we did it in the end.
Regarding treetop walkways: I was already anticipating not seeing any animals, reptiles, or birds based on previous reviews on here so we weren't surprised when that was also the case for us. The views are nice but members of our group were still frustrated by the lack of wildlife- even binoculars didn't help. I admit that if we only came to do this activity, we probably would've walked away unhappy.
Regarding ziplining: I was apprehensive about this given previous reviews stating they felt unsafe. I'm not sure if the park has changed their practices recently, but we were there on Feb 1, 2023 and we had a great experience. Scott reviewed everything and made sure all questions were answered. When my mom panicked after realizing she may need to manually brake with a glove they provide (they have a system that brakes for you but may need you to perform it on your own if you pick up too much speed), Jose and the team were nice enough to "taxi" her along throughout the course. We did not opt for the Superman swing but did do the Tarzan swing, which was fun. I believe the only restriction for the Tarzan swing is that you must weigh less than 200 lbs/90 kg.
Regarding the exhibits: We did several guided tours and trips while staying in Costa Rica but never encountered butterflies or sloths up close, which is why I opted for all 3. I feel bad for forgetting his name, but our tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all of the animals. He made sure everyone was able to see each animal (tricky with the amphibians) and had all of our questions answered. We lucked out in that we were in a group of about 25 people for the sloth tour, but broke off with our guide to continue seeing the butterflies and reptiles after (essentially getting a private tour).
Tips regarding planning:
- get there early if you want to catch the 8:30 zipline tour. We had reservations but still needed to stand in line with everyone else to get to the ticket counter. We missed the 8:30 zipline group.
- zipline tours leave at 8:30, 11, 1:30, and 2:30. Tours for treetop walkways are self guided and can be started whenever. Tours to the 3 exhibits (sloths, butterflies, and reptiles) start 15 minutes after every hour.
- we ended up arriving about 8:15 (we drove, free parking onsite) and stood in line for about 30 minutes. Since we missed 8:30 zipline, we did the treetop walkway for 90 minutes, ziplining at 11, and then did the 3 exhibits with the 2:15 tour. Ended at 3:45.

The zip lines were much fun, and we felt completely safe. The views were out of this world. The best thing we did in Monteverde.

We had a great time at Selvatura Park doing the canopy tour (ziplining) and hanging bridges! For the canopy tour, the staff did a great job of ensuring our safety and providing an unforgettable experience. The views were breathtaking and it was so cool to experience both solo ziplining and partner rides! The Tarzan swing was also a lot of fun and unique.
The atmosphere on the hanging bridges walk was peaceful and the sights of the forest were beautiful. It was nice to wander through at our own pace.

Zipling through the Cloud Forest was one of my top priorities while visiting CR. Our guides, Justin and Jason, were amazing and fun! I felt very safe and the dynamic of our group was excellent. The hike through the forest, with the suspension bridges, was also beautiful. The vegetation is so cool - different than Indiana! The butterfly exhibit was ok, but I probably would have rather seen the sloths.

My first time zip lining. What a exhilarating experience. Cruising a few hundred feet above the jungle will be something I'll never forget. Thank you Scott and Alan and the rest of the crew at Selvatura we're incredibly gracious, kind, and extremely informative. I'll be back to do the Superman! I would recommend this park to everyone.

We booked the Gold Package which included the Zip Lines (which ended with the Superman decent) and the Canopy Walk. Both were amazing. The Canopy Walk is self guided and takes as long as you want it to do. It was raining when we did it, so we took about an hour to do the 3.2km.
The Zip Lines were professionally organised with guides to explain what was going to happen and offer advice. To be totally honest each person wears a harness and is clipped on and off at each line, all you have to do is lift your legs and go, at the bottom is another guide who stops you and releases your harness and clips you onto a safety line ready for your next zip line. It is totally safe.
We had a wonderful time and throughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this company as the price was competitive when we booked online

Wir wurden zu Beginn unseres exquisiten Ausflugs in die Fauna und Flora von Monteverde direkt am Hotel Calathea mitgenommen. Der Bus brachte uns und weitere Besucher direkt vor die Tore des Parks, wo die Organisation einen in die richtige Richtung weiste. Trotz der grossen Anzahl Besucher, verteilten sich diese gut im Park.
Wir begannen unsere Exkursion im Butterflygarden. Die Farbenpracht der Schmetterlinge und die gute Führung und inforeichen Erzählung von Jose Batista Diego hinterliessen einen tollen Eindruck.
Daraufhin erfolgte eine kurze Wanderung von 3km über die Hängebrücken durch das Bionom von Monteverde. Leider sahen wir hier mehr Flora als Fauna, was natürlich aufgrund der uns vorgestellten Erwartung eher etwas enttäuschend war.
Das Mittagessen vor Ort war dafür überraschend gut und frisch - wir hatten beide einen Salat mit Früchten.
Zum Abschluss wurde wir zur Canopytour geleitet. Die Gruppe kam gut vorwärts, es war gut organisiert und man fühlte sich trotz des hektischen Einstiegs sicher und geborgen. Die Landschaft konnte fast schon aus einer Vogelperspektive genossen werden.

We arrived at the park as requested at 8:15am for our 8:30 tour. From there and for most of the day we lined up and waited. We did the full zipline tour and the first 4-5 were incredibly short with no views or anything. We did not feel safe. The guides were sending people down one line as they scrambled to the other line to catch people. Once the entire group had no guide and we had to wait at a tower for 15+ minutes. None of us were even attached or anything.
We also did the butterfly area and the hanging bridges. The bridges were OK but really nothing spectacular. The best really was the butterfly exhibit. At least we didn’t have to wait.
Really it was 3 hours of line up and maybe 18 minutes of ziplining. I would suggest trying a different tour. We did 3 ziplines in Costa Rica and this was by far the worst and we felt the least safe.

For the 11:00am tour - is that the pick-up time from the hotel? We will be driving up to Monteverde from Playa Conchal that day and I am wondering if it's possible to meet at the park or if we have to be picked up from a hotel? We do have a hotel reserved for the night in Monteverde, I just need to know when I'd need to be there by if we have to be picked up at the hotel.Thanks!
