This is a great hike with great views from the top of the tower. The road is closed to the Mount Britton parking area. The Ranger recommended that we take the Caminitillo trail. It was a long but easy trail to Mount Britton. We had a 4 and 5 year old who hiked up. From the tower, we walked the road back down to the parking area. It took 3 hours to complete the loop.

Took the hike with two small children. Which I ended up carrying half the way both directions. 2 hours round trip if you are not with normal hikers. View from the top was worth the trip.

I was a little apprehensive as I have issues with my knees, but i refuse to give in. Hike is moderate to difficult, but there are areas to stop along the way if needed. You can always just step off to the side while you catch your breath too!! Pathway is very narrow for 2 way traffic so be courteous. Coming down is a little slippery so at times baby steps are needed. Part of the trail you will take the paved road then reconnect to the path. There are signs to let you know which way to go. Beautiful view from the tower. It’s not overly tall, but there are a number of set of stairs up. A must stop to enjoy the forest, the beautiful foliage & views waiting.

I strongly suggest huffing out the hike up to the tower while visiting. The view on a clear day from the top is beautiful!

Took us about 30-35 minutes to get up the tower without any stops on the way, and 20 minutes coming down. The view is superb and makes the hike worth it. Though it can crowded at the top with everyone trying to soak in the natural beauty.

The walk to the top is moderate (but easy) as the park service has built a narrow concrete walkway all the way to the top.

Medium difficulty hike but you'll get a good sense of the vastness of the rainforest. If you are in crunch for time and don't do it, you don't miss much.

My wife and I rented a soft top Jeep, put the top down and headed up to El yunque. We had an absolutely spectacularly gorgeous time. The road is twisty and windy and narrow just like the road to Hana in Maui, if you've done that before. We were hoping to hike to the El Mina waterfall/pool, but that is currently closed due to covid.
****Important**** you now need to reserve a time at recreation.gov from either 8-11am or 12-3pm to proceed to Mt. Britton tower, Coca Falls, and the bulk of the hiking as a Park Ranger checks every incoming vehicle for a pass. The cost is just $2, I think they are attempting to control volume of people coming in to the park due to Covid-19. Masks are required. Despite these hassles, was WELL worth the trip. Highly recommend an open air Vehicle to take in all the views.

Beautiful hike that’s not to be missed! Definitely moderate- the hike is quite steep and at an incline the whole way up. That said, it’s paved! Accordingly, it’s really not too tough. The map says this path is 45 min to the top; as a couple of 20-ish year olds moving at a good clip, we summited in 25 minutes. Great views and good tropical rainforest environment throughout the hike. The summit tower provides breathtaking views of three coastlines, plus the rainforest mountain ridges. It’s a great value for the effort.
Some quick bullets/logistics:
- We arrived at 1:55pm in March 2020 and completed the trail at 2:18pm.
- There are no bathrooms or trash cans along the route. There are a couple of covered benches here and there.
- Parking is somewhat limited - much of it roadside.
- No wildlife but great rainforest foliage.
- The cobblestone paving is single file. Be prepared to make way for other hikers.
- We were able to hike the whole way in flip flops and birkenstocks- but I imagine tennis would be more comfortable.

Great hike up this morning to Mt Britton Tower. So glad we decided to take up that challenge. It wasn’t easy but still very doable with good shoes, will power and some breaks along the way. The views from the tower were worth it.

We did not have to pay for any of the trails. There are several maps along the way and you can even obtain the trail maps at some of the hotels. There is a visitor center you migh be able to get more information at but every day we went there there were huge lines so we trusted google and the maps and it worked out just fine.
