The trip was for my birthday and was two mornings in the woodland hide and an afternoon with the red Kites. Woodland would mainly be for Red Squirrels. When looking at Argaty Red Kites website it says bring a close up lens for Red Squirrels plus a longer lens. Also in a few emails pre the visit and in a phone conversation Lynn told me to bring a close up lens because the squirrels can get a little close. I think within 150mm is close and when it first happens it's a whooo moment because it happens so fast and without any warning. They even ended up sitting on my shoes eating nuts and seeds. One of the best wildlife experiences I've had to date. Lynn could not do enough to make the trip go smoothly. The whole experience was outstanding and well worth doing.

This is a wonderful place: it is extraordinary to be able to get so close to the red kites and watch them feeding from the hide. Neil and Lynn (whose farm this is) were so welcoming and Etty, the volunteer warden, gave us plenty of information about the birds and was very helpful. Neil drove our disabled friend up to the hide. We thoroughly enjoyed it and wished we had also booked a visit to the wildlife hide or photography hide. Thank you.

Back to this site yet again, what an amazing place, an afternoon with the Red Kites and the following morning in the woodland hide watching the squirrels and woodland birds.
As we lead wildlife tours we wait for our guest reactions, all positive and full of praise for sharing the various aspects of Argaty Wildlife.
Thanks Tom, Niall, Lynne keep up the good work and a special mention to Ollie the newly recruited ranger, we will be back with more guests.

We had the most brilliant tour of the farm by Niall on Wheels! He showed us red squirrels and birds of all kinds from a hide whilst treating us to delicious shortbread out of his Aga that morning and tea/coffee. We also saw where the beavers live and all their dams. We went to the remains of an old farmhouse and a house that had belonged to a character called Heather Jock (Niall read us a ballad written about him!) We were treated to a wonderful demonstration of sheep herding by the lovely collie, Josie, and her skilled master with an array of whistles. We left a fish for a rehomed otter and then visited a copse of the most wonderful old trees and signs of what could possibly be an old broch. Niall is the most personable guide and a great driver up hill and down dale in his fantastic little mobile.
I would thoroughly recommend a farm tour with this lovely man and learn about his habitat that he obviously cherishes and is rightfully proud of! ❤️

Amazing service again grom everyone Argaty Red Kites. Looked after by Ollie who really did look after us. Had booked woodland hide for the morning. Olle explained everything to us and left us with red squirrels and all wildlife. Went in the afternoon to see red kite feed. Again Ollie was the ranger did a great talk and explained all things red kite. We will keep coming back when we holiday close enough as you all do a great job. Thanks again louise and Rob Bristol xx

An amazing afternoon photographing these beautiful birds.The Ranger was excellent giving my disabled wife a lift to hide and back. Altogether a great place to visit,I will return to see the birds again.

An absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. I booked the Photography Hide as a surprise for my sons birthday and we both had an excellent time watching and photographing the Red Kites.
The hide was clean, tidy and well maintained, and we also made use of the outdoor platform. We had amazing views of the birds as they circled overhead and swooped down to feed, and I would definitely recommend this experience.
The staff were also very welcoming and we're happy to chat with us after the activity about the birds and other experiences available. Altogether an amazing day out.

Wonderful morning spent in the company of lots of Red Squirrels and numerous woodland birds . Booked the solo woodland hide well worth the money despite the wet weather. Would highly recommend

Hello and thanks for asking the question. We are open all day but staffed only at feeding time. When you email or ring to book in we will confirm availability and time of accompanied visit.

i don't know of anything within walking distance. they are located at the end of a narrow winding road. you might try to contact argaty kites directly. maybe they can help you. we stayed at mackeanston house in doune which was just a short 10 minute ride in a car. we found doune to be centrally located to many wonderful venues, but they all had to be accessed by car. sorry.
