The staff could not have been more accommodating helping a wheelchair user and a person with limited mobility.
The ranger Ollie was extremely engaging and knowledgeable.
It was lovely watching the red kites - a very enjoyable afternoon and highly recommended.

I had an incredible morning in the solo photography hide for red squirrels. A truly special place. Throughout the whole session there were multiple red squirrels, lots of birds and even a roe deer came through. From the brief time spent with Niall at the beginning it was clear he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the whole site and its mission. I will return the next time I’m up this way on holiday.

As usual a fabulous experience despite the dreich Scottish weather. There's a reason I keep going back; it's because the "product", even if unpredictable as it's living creatures, is always good despite the weather, and, importantly, because I am always made to feel so welcome. Already making a booking for another visit in a couple of weeks' time.

Booked the Red Kite photography hide last Sunday 28th July. Weather was gorgeous, the view of the birds from the hide is excellent. A great opportunity to see these beautiful birds and hear their calls. They are very vocal, which was a surprise. We were met by Lynn who gave us lots of information about the kites and made us very welcome. Great afternoon and would thoroughly recommend anyone to go and visit. The conservation work at Argaty is admirable and I will certainly visit again.

I had an excellent day visiting the Red Squirrels Studio Hide. This is a solo hide and is well set up to get action shots.
Lots of bird species are also attracted to the site as seeds are set out to attract the squirrels

Well worth a visit. Lynn was very knowledgeable and so helpful. The red kite's were spectacular with great views of them flying and feeding. Definitely worth a visit and we will be booking to go again.

It is always a treat to have a day at Argaty. Spent the morning in the woodland hide enjoying the peace and solitude in the middle of this beautiful wood. There were at least 10 red squirrels including some youngsters who were chattering and chasing each other and leaping across the platforms. Delightful. Lots of visits from various birds including tits, nuthatch, woodpecker, wren, jays, dunnock, a juvenile robin and treecreeper. The highlight was a visit from a young fox - he was very interested in the squirrels but happy enough to have a snack of peanuts. The afternoon was spent in the red kite hide which is always a joy to watch these magnificent birds. I always leave Argaty with the feeling that the world is a better place and it totally recharges the batteries.

I went to the studio hide which is a single person hide in the woodland that is full of wildlife, expect to see great numbers of red squirrels, jays, woodpecker, nuthatches, chaffinch, treecreepers, blue-tit, great-tit, siskin, coal-tit, a sparrowhawk (came in but flew away when I moved the camera), blackbirds and thrush. It is set up so that you can achieve photos of red squirrels in mid flight which I found really enjoyable as I'd never done it before.
Was greeted at the car park by Tom and followed him a short distance to the field where he takes you in his small jeep across the field to the hide. It's not a big walk back to your car and you may be able to photograph buzzards and red kites on the way across the field.
A great place to see wildlife close-up and spend time amongst the woodland noises.

Hello and thanks for asking the question. We are open all day but staffed only at feeding time. When you email or ring to book in we will confirm availability and time of accompanied visit.

is there anywhere close by to spend a couple of nights in bed and breakfast or hotel that caters for someone wanting to have a weekend walking thanks

i don't know of anything within walking distance. they are located at the end of a narrow winding road. you might try to contact argaty kites directly. maybe they can help you. we stayed at mackeanston house in doune which was just a short 10 minute ride in a car. we found doune to be centrally located to many wonderful venues, but they all had to be accessed by car. sorry.
