I went without any prior knowledge, but it was great!
There is an escalator up to the cave entrance. However, from here onwards the path is narrow and has a low ceiling. It is dimly lit, quite an uphill climb, and there are many stairs, so it is not easy to walk. From the second half of the path the overhead opens up and the space becomes wider, but the stairs continue as usual. There are not many signs or explanations inside the cave, but there was a detailed explanation at the museum on the way back.
From the exit it is a long downward slope and staircase walk down. It feels like you are descending the foot of a mountain, there are many explanations about the limestone plants, and you can hear the birds singing, so it is a pleasant walk.
I would like to go there again, taking my time.

Only 1km of the 4km is open to the public, and in addition to the tourist course, there are two other courses that require advance reservations to rent and explore the top and bottom jumpsuits, so it is worthy of being one of the three major caves in both name and reality.
If you are visiting Kochi Prefecture, it is well worth visiting as it is not difficult to access by car from Kochi City.
I visited on a day when the outside temperature was 10°C, but inside the cave it was surprisingly warm at 13°C, and since your body temperature rises when walking 1km up and down to the exit, there was no need to take any special measures against the cold, even in winter.
The cave itself is fine, but since it has the honor of being one of the three major caves in Japan, it would have been +1 star if there were more restaurants and souvenir shops near the entrance.
There was game meat curry at the restaurant, but a popular restaurant that serves local specialties would have been fine, so if there was even one restaurant with a good menu, my impression would have been different.
Many of the souvenir shops sold local specialty knives, but caves and knives have nothing to do with each other, and if they were talking about traditional Kochi crafts, I thought it would be nice to have a wider variety of souvenir shops, like Katsurahama.
The area around the cave entrance is deserted, as if time had stopped in the Showa era, and it feels like it's damaging the brand power of this place, but I thought it might be nice to buy a knife as a souvenir, and the price was reasonable, so I almost bought one, but in the end I didn't.

We had a chance to visit the Ryugado Cave during a recent visit to Japan. We had visited other caves before, like the famous cave in Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. a very large open area under ground.
This is NOT what we expected! This is not so much a cave as a dark, winding, narrow, low, bat-invested, one-way, steep ascent passage that rises several hundred feet in the air. This is NOT for those who are not fit and NOT for those who have mobility issues and NOT for very large people. We survived, and it was kind of fun, but this is definitely NOT for everyone.
This is NOT what we expected! This is not so much a cave as a dark, winding, narrow, low, bat-invested, one-way, steep ascent passage that rises several hundred feet in the air. This is NOT for those who are not fit and NOT for those who have mobility issues and NOT for very large people. We survived, and it was kind of fun, but this is definitely NOT for everyone.

You enter the cave complex at the bottom of a hill and climb up and up before exiting into sunlight, and then it’s a long staircase and walkway back down. I didn’t see any warnings (in English) that these weren’t suitable for anyone who wasn’t happy to climb and climb, often bending double, and the friend who was with us had to stop about 2/3’s of the way through to get his breath back, Even my wife who is 4ft 9 inches had to bend double at one point, so for myself as a rather broad near 6ft guy, some bits were a bit of a challenge. That said, it was an amazing experience even if I don’t believe this would have met (boring) UK health and safety codes.
Note, the cave is very wet and humid inside, cool at the bottom, but certainly warmer nearer the top once you’ve climbed up the path

沖縄の鍾乳洞や海外の鍾乳洞等行きましたが、こちらの鍾乳洞はけっこう狭いところがあったり、他のところより冒険っぽい体験ができておもしろかったです。
アクセスがあまりよくないので、高知から直通バス等あればいいのにと思いました。
高知駅から土佐山田駅まで行き、そこからバスで行けます。
電車もバスもそんなに本数がないので、事前に時間を調べてから行くのがよいと思います。土佐山田駅にはいちようタクシーもありました。
レンタカーとかあると便利だと思います。
中は約30分くらいでみれます。急なところや長い階段もあるので、小さなお子様や体力に少し自信のないかたはやめた方がよいと思います。
歩きやすい靴とリュックなど手が空いた感じで行くとよいです。
春休み時期の日曜に行きましたがあんまり人もいなくて穴場かと思います。
外国の方もちらほらいました。
MY遊バス乗車券で割引ありです。

高知県香美市の山中にある鍾乳洞で日本三大鍾乳洞の一つに数えられています。
駐車場は無料、鍾乳洞は入場料1200円でした。
実際は行ってみると、結構狭くて天井が低く歩きにくい箇所が多々ありました。
観光コースで比べると、他の鍾乳洞でもっと規模の大きなものが有った様に感じました。
結構高低差が大きく、足に自信のない方は要検討ですね。
出口から駐車場までも結構歩きます。

高知県の香美市にある鍾乳洞です。国の指定史跡、天然記念物に指定されています。大人１２００円、小学生５５０円です。ここは、インストラクターがついて、ヘッドライトをを頼りに行く冒険コースもありますが、予約が取れずに普通に見学。中は夏場にはひんやりしていて最高。狭い通路や広い空間などあって、普通の見学でも十分楽しい。かつて弥生人が住んでいた跡などもありました。３０分くらいで見れるので、ぜひ行く価値ありです。

１年半ぶりに訪れました。照明カラーも美しく見れるようになり、プロジェクションマッピングも見ごたえありました。終盤の出口までの登り階段は疲れますが、途中に休憩椅子と扇風機もセットされていて高齢者配慮は素晴らしい。出口を出たところにある休憩所は２０１９年７月改装されていて、冷暖房完備、冷たいお水の無料提供。綺麗なソファーも設置され以前と打って変わって快適に過ごせるようになってました。

I didn’t find them a problem but then I go to the gym six times a week so keep fairly fit.
