It is located in a residential area called Onaka on the mountain side of Nago City, so it is best to visit by car.
It has been relocated and is now new, and there are many exhibits worth seeing. We think the old local houses built in the garden are wonderful.
Also, if you are an Okinawa lover, you will be impressed by the geological formation of the Okinawa region, which is not just a visit to the sea.
All of the exhibits are filled with a desire to let people know more about Okinawa and Nago, which is wonderful.
This new facility costs less than 500 yen, 440 yen for adults and 330 yen for university students, so don't just pass it by. It will be cool in the high season, and the large parking lot is also helpful.
If you fall in love with Okinawa, we hope you will visit this place to meet people and learn about the origins of the Okinawa islands.

この建物は名護城(なんぐすく)入口交叉点にある。そろそろ大中に10倍の敷地に新築移転完成する予定とのことであるが、いまだいつかの情報は無い。

３月一杯で移転のために一時閉館するため、閉館ぎりぎりに行ってきました。規模の割に盛りだくさんの展示がなされていましたが、特に剥製のポーズが躍動感にあふれていました。新しい博物館の展示も素敵な展示になるよう願っています。

今月いっぱいで移転するため現在入館料無料になってます。駐車場がないのでホテルから歩きで行きました。オリオンの工場も近所にあるので併せていきましょう

名護の文化を垣間見られます。駐車場は横に３台分しかありませんが、道路の向かいの空き地に停めろと言われました。１階は昔の生活。２階は動物が展示されています。大人は１６０円

This relatively small museum really packs a lot into its galleries. The first floor traces local history back to the 12th century focusing on crop harvesting, domestic animals, food, clothing, gardens and traditional dwellings. The second floor features exhibits on the local whaling industry, life rituals/celebrations, artifacts dating back almost 1,000 years, local topography and more. Throughout the museum there are numerous animals (stuffed, although downstairs there are several that are still very much alive) and an entire room filled with (stuffed) whales and whale skeletons which is fascinating due in part to their sheer size. I spent over an hour here. If you really want to get a picture for what life is like in Nago and how the area evolved over time I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

My friend from okinawa brought me to this Museum to take in a Exhibition of Rare Native plants of Okinawa. It was well done and very educational. How the native people used plants was most interesting. We also had some time to travel through the two stories of the permanent collection.I really enjoyed the displays and demonstrations that directly connect the artifacts to everyday life. This museum has local soul and the exhibits especially the animals make the stories come alive.
