静かで美しい山間の町。まさに陶芸の町。
雰囲気も良く、見るもの、散策できるショップも多数ありますので、時間割いてゆっくり回りたいところです。
風鈴祭りの時に伺いましたが、とても良い雰囲気でした。

I traveled Saga in early November 2021, when the fourth wave of COVID 19 was rapidly subsiding, and before the next omicron wave. It was on my way from Karatsu where I had stayed a night to Nagasaki. Imari is only an hour away from Karatsu by car. I didn’t know much about Imari until this trip. All I knew was that Imari is called the Little Kyoto of Saga, and that all ceramics from this area came to be known as Imari porcelain as the porcelain were exported through the port of Imari. From there we drove a couple of miles into the mountains to Ookawachiyama. The founder of Saga (Nabeshima) han (feudal domain) Naoshige Nabeshima partook in the invasion to Korea in the late 16th century, and Korean immigrant potters started production of porcelain using china clay found in this area. The Nabeshima Family encouraged production, and in the latter half of the 17th century placed production under its direct control. Throughout the Edo feudal era, the area was put under strict control to prevent divulsion of the technique. The extravagant porcelain were offered as a tribute to the Tokugawa shogun. Although direct management and protection was discontinued after the Meiji Restoration, the tradition has continued to this day in this remote area. Many are run by descendants of the Korean potters. We first visited the Imari Nabeshima Kaikan (hall) to browse their display of Nabeshima porcelain which are on sale as well, followed by a visit to the adjacent Imari Arita Dentou Kougei Kaikan (traditional art center) with further displays of not-for-sale historical ceramics. Admission is free. We then strolled the area. Of particular interest was the shed grinding the clay run by water along a river. I understand that there were numerous such sheds along the river in the heydays. This is certainly a secluded and mysterious place that travelers should not miss.

佐賀県、伊万里焼きの郷、大川内鍋島窯跡です。伊万里駅からバスで行きました。本数は少ないので予め時刻表をチェックしておく良いでしょう。連休最終日の日曜日でしたが人気はかなり少なかったです。
ひな祭り前で多くの雛人形が展示されており華やかでした。

秀逸な伊万里焼きの陶磁器が制作、販売されているエリアです。素晴らしい食器に出会えるだけでなく、それらが安価に販売されているのでエキサイト出来ます。

伊万里焼の窯元が集まる大川内鍋島窯跡です。ホテルで時刻表を貰い、JR
伊万里駅からローカルバスに乗って行きました。バスの本数はかなり少ないので帰りのバスの時刻表チェックしましょう。
丁度秋祭りの日で晴れた休日も重なり多くの人で賑わってました。山中にあり、紅葉が本当にキレイでした

「秘窯の里」というなんともミステリアスなコピーに引かれて寄ってみました。鍋島会館前の駐車場に車を停め（無料でした）、坂の多い里を散策してみます。優れたやきものの技術が他藩に流出することを恐れた鍋島藩が、技術者をここに集め、関所も設けて管理したことで「秘窯」なのです。昔の街並みを残した、しっとりとした空気感が旅心をくすぐる土地。日曜日でしたが人も少なく、静かに見学できました。坂になった細い道をはさんで窯元やショップが数多く並んでいます。ちょっと1本入ったところにも小さな店舗があったり、川沿いに奥へ進んでも、ポツンと窯元があったりします。すべてを見るとなるとかなりの時間を要しますが、ちらりと見て気になる店に入ってみるだけでも、なかなか楽しいです。何も買わなくてもそれほど気にしなくて大丈夫。そういう人はたくさんいるはずなので。小川にそった狭い道も雰囲気たっぷりで、ところどころにかかっている橋も味わい深い。いちばん入り口に近い橋は、白磁に藍で模様が描かれています。町の案内図も、磁器製でなかなか素敵。タイミングが合えば陶芸家ご本人にいろいろな話も聞けたりして、有意義な時間を過ごせます。気に入った作品をいくつか手に入れて、満足した気持ちで「秘窯の里」をあとにしました。

焼き物のふるさとともいえる大川内山は、伊万里の市街地から南へ向かって１０分ほど走った山の中腹にありました。中腹と言っても、町の奥にはけわしい山があり、切り立った崖があったりする場所でした。
佐賀県の伊万里と有田は、日本を代表する焼き物の町ですが、特に、この大川内山は佐賀藩直営の窯が置かれ、技術の粋を集めた焼き物がつくられたところです。山に向かって伸びている狭い坂道の両脇にはたくさんの窯元が建ち並んでいて、その多くがギャラリーを持っていました。それぞれの窯の特色ある作品を見たり、お気に入りの器を購入したりして、ギャラリー巡りを楽しみました。

It is a small museum at the entrance of Okawchiyama ceramic village. Although it is not big, you can get some basic idea about Imari ceramics. The entrance is free.

３月１１日までの磁器ひな祭りは終わり、４月からの春のと窯元市には早いし。イベントはなくても、静かな街並みを見るだけでもいいですよ。
