I visited here for a few hours in July 2022. It's easy to find if you head for Manchester airport then pick up the signs.

A great insight into the workings of a cotton mill from yesteryear. The staff here were all pleasant and helpful, giving you as much information as you want, depending on your level of interest. Some of the equipment is still working and there are demonstrations available.

Information relating to some of the people, who lived or worked here, is available to read. There is better access to the mill for prams and wheelchairs now the lift has been installed. Toilets and refreshments are available.

The gardens are well kept and there are picnic areas as well as a play area for younger children.

A very pleasant visit and it brings to life 'The Mill' series or 'Belgravia' as well as a couple of other things. I think there may have been bits of 'Dodger' and 'Peaky Blinders' filmed here too. Oak Cottage No13 is often used for filming and is available to look inside. The other cottages are actually beautiful private homes that are rented from National Trust.

Well worth a visit as an example of great work by The National Trust.

An amazing place that interprets the history of cotton in north west England, the plight of the child workers, the engineering and development of spinning, weaving and power technologies. The Styal Estate is also a great demonstration of wildlife friendly farming as were the gardens.

It would be improved if messaging was bolder on the plight of child workers that supply our current consumer society.

What a great day. Beautifully kept grounds and buildings. Quarry Bank House is a must. Other houses and stately homes have printed sheets in the rooms for visitors to read but Quarry Bank House has Ted Baker as a guide. He not only showed us around the rooms but gave us an insight into the history of the building, the site and the people who had lived there. He was so enthusiastic and knew a lot of extra tidbits that helped to make the house so fascinating.
We also enjoyed the grounds and the mill. The staff in all the buildings were friendly and helpful. We plan on going again as there is still so much to see.

This was our 4th visit & still see different things. This museum is on 4 floors so we start at the top with the history & work our way down. The guides on each floor are very enthusiastic & knowledgeable willing to chat & show you how the machinery works. It is still a working mill making material to sell in the shop. So many parts to this museum The Apprentices House where it's a guided tour, gardens & walks to explore yourselves. We spent nearly 4 hours wondering round, allow yourselves plenty of time to take everything in.
With new entrance at top of the hill they provided a buggy service up & down for a donation good for those with mobility problems or small children.

Went there in 2014 not long after The Mill tv series was shown.

It is an interesting place and we did the whole tour but whenever we asked about the incidents in the tv series and if they were true to life, they didn't answer or just evaded the questions!

Having said that, the mill itself, Apprentice House and also the demonstrations of weaving, really brought this back to life for me and it was a fascinating view into both the mill owners family and also the mill workers themselves.

It is very well maintained, including the grounds.

You do need at least 2-3 hours to view the whole place properly and also be careful of the cobbles.

We had an amazing time and will go back as soon as we can. The technical demonstrators showing how the various machines work are all great but the best member of staff was a gentleman showing the engines at the end of the tour. Plenty of cafés to call in at and lovely gardens.

What an amazing experience.A brilliant visit into our industrial past, especially the forced use of young children in the workforce.
Loved all aspects of this visit, especially the Apprentice’s house. All parts of the estate worth a visit as so well presented.
Very enjoyable and informative….I loved it all.

My group enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at Quarry Bank, located 11 miles from Manchester. I most enjoyed a visit to the Apprentice House, where you hear stories about the children (some as young as age 9) who worked 12-hour days, six days a week. The children were not paid, but received plenty of food, clothing, and some primitive medical care courtesy of Dr. Peter Holland. They sometimes worked overtime, earning a penny per hour so they could buy things in the local village. The gardens, full of colorful rhododendrons and azaleas, were equally delightful. At the cotton mill, you learn about the industrial revolution and founder Samuel Greg. According to our tour guide, Hannah Greg was an even more remarkable person. She would teach the girls how to read and write and give them occasional scriptural lessons.

家庭
We arrived and went towards the top cafe so we could use the loo and change baby
My granddaughter remembered before covid they used to have a big connect 4 for them to play in the field when we asked about it the lady was quite rude “we do our best “ but was quick to ask for our tickets I replied I understand about last year but thought this year thought you would have got the games out “ well it’s not up-to me “ she snapped
We decided after changing baby we would go to the bottom cafe as the top one was terribly busy
When we got to the bottom my granddaughter wanted to play on the playground
This was closed last time we came as it was being refurbished due to floods
Well I wouldn’t have bothered there’s nothing for the children the play area is now a seating picnic area with nothing for the older child my 6 year old granddaughter was bored very quickly
We went to the cafe to be told sorry we are closing due to staffing issues go to the top one they are open
I replied yes I know we have been there and couldn’t get seats
No sorry or anything just go to the top one we are closed
What an awful day out
