Dopo aver letto varie informazioni sul Piazzo, ho deciso di visitare questo antico quartiere di Biella. Mi aspettavo viuzze medioevali e nobili palazzi... e invece ho trovato auto parcheggiate ovunque e un traffico incredibile! Che delusione: quello che potrebbe essere un gioiello trasformato in un'area di parcheggio e di traffico rumoroso. Dopo 10 minuti siamo scappati. Unica nota positiva la funicolare gratuita per raggiungerlo.

We reached the neighborhood with the funicular that you take downtown which is very well signposted. If you want you can take a walk to reach the neighborhood, but the climb is not for everyone. We discovered this neighborhood, a beautiful medieval village with squares, palaces and very suggestive streets!! There are also several inviting places to try a good polenta or local specialties. For sure we will be back for lunch!!

I lived in Piazza Cisterna for almost 4 years .. I had moved to Biella for work. L 'accommodation was wonderful, overlooking Biella and the mountains.Il Piazzo with its magic gave me the happiest time of my life .. sometimes I struggle to return because it is like seeing my only love .. Go there...

medieval district of Biella reachable with a free funicular, just x a walk, we found a little everything closed both local and the church in the cistern square. very nice view from the door of the neighborhood and in the descent from the cable car

It can be accessed via a free cable car, or with a hike over the cobblestones. Neighborhood full of historic buildings that are still fascinating today, and a lot of history of the characters and the glories of the past

Rarely, traveling around Italy, have I seen such a beautiful neighbourhood, with authentic historical jewels and wonderful views thanks also to the Alps as a backdrop, so mistreated by an administration that does not enforce the ZTL rules and parking bans and by motorists the same ones who park and circulate everywhere in defiance of every ban.
For those who love beauty all this really hurts, the Piazzo is a wonderful medieval neighborhood with authentic jewels dating back to 1200, 1300, 1400 and 1500, to be preserved as the most precious asset, the neglect I saw made me understand that those who manage this city not only don't realize how lucky they are, but probably don't deserve it.
If you want to understand why in Italy we are light years behind in valuing jewels that the whole world envies us compared to other European countries, come and visit the Piazzo.
For those who love beauty all this really hurts, the Piazzo is a wonderful medieval neighborhood with authentic jewels dating back to 1200, 1300, 1400 and 1500, to be preserved as the most precious asset, the neglect I saw made me understand that those who manage this city not only don't realize how lucky they are, but probably don't deserve it.

The Piazzo is the oldest neighborhood in Biella. Built in the Middle Ages, it can be reached by free funicular (closed in August, replaced by buses) or simply on foot.
If you are visiting the city you can go up from the Basilica of San Sebastiano and go down the street next to Piazza Cisterna.
Despite finding everything closed (there are some buildings and museums that can be visited) the visit was still pleasant

Da Biella Piano si sale a Biella Piazzo e dopo qualche viuzza si sbuca nella piazzetta Cisterna, centro principale del borgo e sede del mercato, la piazzetta risulta contornata da portici e locali in sintonia all'ambiente

Buongiorno,
per accedere al Piazzo, mi risulta che il modo più comodo sia la funicolare. Vorrei sapere come si chiama la via/piazza tramite cui accedere alla funicolare.

Attualmente la funicolare è in fase di ristrutturazione. E' possibile accedere per altre vie, sia in auto che a piedi. Caratteristico il passaggio dalla fontana del Bottalino, posta al bivio che porta a Cossila ed Oropa. Se siete in auto, prestate attenzione ai cartelli che riportano limitazioni di circolazione nel Borgo in determinati orari (notturni e festivi).
