We passed this place so many times, old and new location but never visited. I really enjoyed it. The crannogs on the water are still in the process of being built. You get a tour through the museum and then you visit the iron age village buildings in which they show you crafts. We “made” our own bread and had some soup the girl was making on the fire. You get shown how garments were made and coloured and more. We were the only 2 people in the group which allowed for a bit more interaction i think. After the tour we had a little walk around and then sat in the cafe with a coffee and bought a wee souvenir.

This was our third visit to the Crannog Centre because my daughter absolutely loves it. Despite the fact she's only six, she was allowed to attend as a volunteer and had the best time with Frankie in the kitchen crannog. Frankie was incredible with her - so patient despite my daughter's overexcitement, and so knowledgeable. I can see her being the kind of person my daughter references as her inspiration when she grows up to be a famous archaeologist ;) Everyone else is delightful too, really passionate, knowledgeable, and above all, friendly. We love the Crannog Centre and will be back many more times I'm sure.

Amazing learning Centre, was so glad we went and enjoyed a step back in time. We were able to eat food prepared by the teachers, see how metalwork was done, learned how wool was made into yarn for clothing. It was incredible.

What an impressive wee place. An iron age village and a crannog under construction in the loch. The staff played their parts well and brought the scene to life. There a good cafe attached so it’s the perfect place to spend a couple of hours - kids would like it too.

We are staying again in Kenmore having been here a number of times over the years. We never visited the previous Crannog centre before it was destroyed by fire. We decided to go today to the new centre on the other side of Loch Tay to the original. What an unexpected treat it was. A really excellent tour seeing the way of life of an Iron Age Scottish village played out in real life. The guides for each element are exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging and so enthusiastic about what they are sharing. The new centre has been constructed really well and is a true testament to the passion of those who have contributed to bringing the centre back to life.

The title says it all really. Well worth a visit, and make sure you allow at least 2 hours in your schedule.
We visited during the snows, but that didn't put us off. The Staff were all very friendly, and you can tell they are passionate about what they are doing there.
The tour starts off in the museum (where dogs are not permitted), but after that you go outside (with dog) and get led around the various Crannogs (each of which had a little fire to keep you warm) where the staff tell you about different aspects of iron age life (wood working, cooking, black smiths, textiles, and the buildings themselves). You get to try out some of the things they are doing, so it is a really practical experience.
At the end of the tour, there is a coffee shop where you can warm up again!
Don't be put off by the idea of this being a dry boring experience - it is anything but!

Really enjoyed our trip to The Crannog Centre. The tour takes two hours, and is well worth it as you learn so much and in such an interesting and immersive way. Each ‘topic’ is presented by an incredibly well informed member of staff who is actually working away as they tell you all about their topic. I don’t know if they were all archaeologists, but they seemed to be. They were all so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The buildings are all slightly different to highlight different building types found in that era. The detail and the work that was involved to build them is incredible. You can try your hand at using authentic tools and are encouraged to participate and ask any questions. It was really interesting and you come away with a real feel for what life would have been like.
Highly recommend this experience to all ages. It was fascinating.
Dont worry if its raining, its mostly indoors next to cosy fires.

Having to search my brain for that one - some of the ground is rough, so a buggy with small wheels may not be too easy (unless pulled backwards) - I have no recollection of any steps, so probably OK from that point of view.

Hi there, huge apologies for not getting back to you sooner - we have not been receiving notification of messages. Most 3-year-olds are completely fascinated by what we do the Centre as it represents something very new in texture, smell, sound and appearance. Plus our Iron Age interpreters are used to dealing with children of all ages and try their best to include everyone visiting in the tours - from the very smallest to the very oldest! We hope to see you at the Centre very soon.

Hi Marc Thanks for your enquiry and I'm sorry it's been a while, we had technical difficulty in the office. The monk was Dom Odo Blundell based at Fort Augustus Abbey near Inverness. He explored Cherry Island in Loch Ness in the early 1900s and there is an article about this in the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Our research director, Dr Nicholas Dixon reenacted the dive using standard diving dress for the BBC many years ago. There is also information in the book, The Crannogs of Scotland: an Underwater Archaeology by Dr Dixon. If you need more information, please contact us directly by email. We hope this is helpful.

With huge apologies for not answering this sooner. We are sorry but dogs are not allowed in the Centre, except assistance dogs. As one reviewer said, we do have an area outside for dogs to sit and wait for you. It is just outside our main entrance where the dogs can be seen by staff and water is provided. Plus you can pop outside whenever you wish to check on your buddy!

Hi there - apologies for the delay in responding to your question.
The Centre closes for the season on 31 October after our Celtic Samhain Festival. We re-open on 01 April 2017 for our 20th Anniversary year.
We note that there is some confusion regarding us being closed for the winter period and will amend our website accordingly.

Welcome! We are located on the south side of Loch Tay, just outside of the village of Kenmore. From Kenmore Square, head on the A827 towards Aberfeldy, following the end of the loch. Where the main road A827 curves sharply around to the left, take a right still following the outline of the loch. We are located about 1/4 mile along on the right hand side. Parking is provided opposite at Taymouth Marina. Cost is £8.75 for adults; £8 for seniors; £6.50 for children; family tickets (2+1) start at £22.50. We look forward to welcoming you. :-)

We will be staying in Stirling this summer whilst in Scotland. We are not driving. Is it an easy train/bus from Stirling to the Scottish Crannog Centre? For those that have visited the Centre, would you recommend a tour or can we just make our way around the Centre on our own? My 18 yr old son will be with me. I like to linger and have a good look at such sites and he'll be anxious to take just the right photographs. Any thoughts are much appreciated! Thanks much.

Hello there - we're delighted to hear you wish to visit the Scottish Crannog Centre and thank you to all those people who have already offered advice. Using public transport to get to the Centre just became a whole lot easier thanks to the Ring of Breadalbane Bus which operates on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday and started today through until 18 October.
From Stirling you can get a bus to Crieff (look at ‘pkc’ website for bus timetables). Once you're in Crieff you can link to the Ring of Breadalbane bus (look at ‘breadalbane’ website) which will take you through stunning countryside straight to our door! Please make sure you check times carefully to make sure your return journey fits in.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Crannog very soon.
