De kamer was uiterst basic daar is niets mis mee maar dan wel tegen een andere prijs en daarnaast niet schoon, erg rumoerig ondanks tussen 21.00-07.00u stilte verlangd, kamer toegewezen gekregen bovenaan trappenhuis, nou als je wil slapen na intensieve wandeling vraag een andere kamer, beestjes liepen in douche. nee geen aanrader maar wel forse prijs

Beautiful location and grounds. Very pleasant to walk around especially on a beautiful day. Very well maintained.
After a walk enjoy lunch at the restaurant or just a beer made there.
Small store were you can purchase goods made by the abbey ( wine, beer, honey...)
Free parking.

The food is traditional German fare but very fresh and well made. Great service. Lovely surroundings and atmosphere.

Nach einer schönen Übernachtung im benachbarten Eisenschmitt wanderten wir durch das romantische Salmtal nach Himmerod. Die noch relativ neu wieder aufgebaute Kirche strahlt eine klassische Ruhe aus. Wir könnten einige Minuten der wunderbaren Klaisorgel lauschen...Demnächst werde ich zu einem Orgelkonzert wieder dorthin fahren. Überall: Ruhe! Die Cafés wirken etwas aus der Zeit gefallen, die Kuchen köstlich! Lohnenswert: die Gärtnerei. Große Auswahl, kleine Preise!

stunning location. free entry, free parking! the Abtei is great looking and is well maintained. there were stalls selling home made products, honey, potatoes, apples. a greenhouse with loads of plants. loads of activities as well. there was a gaststatte and a bakery serving great and delicious tasting cakes. all in all a lovely dat out.

The abbey and church in the village have both been recently refurbished, the interior of the abbey is not full of relics, clean lines and quite unusual. Pater Stephen is the only resident monk, but there is a very strong group who look after the place. The trout farm is also available to purchase fish and trout in the restaurant just outside the abbey is an excellent value lunch.
There are a couple of walks, the shorter one takes you 30 minutes and covers the diversion in the river which allows the water wheel to be used in the abbey. Many years ago there were iron works on the river itself, but these are long gone.

Wer nach Himmerod kommt, muss das Besondere suchen und zu schätzen wissen. Schlichte Funktionalität zur Übernachtung mit dem Charme einer Jugendherberge und einer großen Portion Spiritualität. Toiletten auf dem Gang, Gemeinschaftsdusche, Selbstbedienung im Frühstücksraum (Palladium). Warmherzige Aufnahme und beeindruckende Predigt.

Ich war auf dem Eifelsteig unterwegs und habe zwei Nächte dort im Gästehaus übernachtet. Das Zimmer hatte ein eigenes einfaches Bad, kein WLAN, Handyempfang oder Fernsehen. Dafür kann man aber abends allein in der Kirche sitzen, durch den Klostergarten spazieren und morgens mit Pater Stephan frühstücken. Sehr entspannend und erholsam. Ich komme sicher wieder.

The Abbey and grounds are lovely a peaceful haven. Had lunch in the restaurant on Easter Sunday, although it was busy I can't fault the service or food, it was excellent.
