We had a very knowledgeable guide who took us on a tour of the hangar and gave us lots of information about all the planes within the display all of which are air worthy. The access is good and would be suitable for wheel chairs . I wouldn’t recommend it for young children as there is a lot of information to take in and obviously no interactions with the planes . As a bonus the typhoon flew over so the noise was brilliant

My wife and I visited today.
I have to say we were blown away.
We had Lou as our guide and I must say she was absolutely brilliant. Not only did she show us the airplanes
She related stories of the young men involved in the traumatic period in our history, so much so my wife was tearful listening to the heart wrenching stories, especially 303 squadron and how those Polish lads
Were treated after the war.
God bless all those who gave their lives for our future.
And thank you Lou
I would thoroughly recommend a visit

Great tour, the kids loved it very child friendly and informative.

Would highly recommend, James was our tour guide and our children did not stop asking questions, very patient and a wealth of knowledge.

I was fortunate enough to be the only person on that particular tour yesterday afternoon, and what a privilege it was. My 90 mins passed in the blink of an eye helped in no small part by the quality of the Guide's knowledge and delivery. It was great to meet you Kevin and may I apologise again for getting all "touchy feely" with the Hurricanes tail plane. On a slightly more formal note, the BBMF is a National Treasure honouring all who gave so much and therefore should be cherished and protected at all costs, no questions asked!!

Fantastic - really enjoyed the guided walk with Julian, lovely guy and extremely knowledgeable. Fantastic to see these old planes being restored to being flight worthy, quite emotional to see!

10 out of 10, we have been to the RAF base a few times and not done the tour. This week we finally did it and it did not disappoint.

Our tour guide Eric was wonderful, very knowledgeable and had many stories to tell. We took my dad as he loved all the Battle of Britain planes especially the Lancaster. Myself, child and mum did not expect to enjoy it as much as we did. The tour latest around 2 hours.
It is very strict and we were not allowed to take any handbags in, phones and Smart watches must be turned off or flight mode used. We had to take bags which were only small handbags back to the car. They could do with some lockers to put your belongings in although car park is only across the road.
My dad is in a powered wheelchair which we were not allowed to use, luckily he was able to transfer into a push along wheelchair that was provided.

Now in semi-retirement from my old-day job' as both a Travel-TV presenter & WW-II documentary producer & writer with a long professional & private association with vintage World War Two aircraft, every year my old cameraman & I now try to 'slip the bonds' of the south of England and head north to the 'Bomber County' of Lincolnshire on a road-trip, to indulge our joint interest in the former airfields therein, alongside the myriad specialist museums related to the County's amazing WW-II aviation history.

Our latest road-trip trip took in the 'spiritual home' of 617 RAF Dambuster Squadron at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa, where we both got chatting to a smashing lady who asked if we had also been over to the BBMF centre at RAF Coningsby.?

I replied I that thought it was an RAF front-line fighter station with no public entry allowed, whereupon she happily explained that the BBMF were based around one corner of the base and in fact there was a 'proper' wee museum open to the 'great unwashed' like my pal & I...with guided tours of the RAF's prized Memorial Flight Spits, Hurricanes and, of course, their mighty Lancaster 'City of Lincoln' available for a simple entry fee..!

We thanked her for her valuable, gen but said were were next heading over to the Lincolnshire Heritage Aviation Centre at East Kirkby to, once again, renew our acquaintance with Lancaster 'Just Jane'.. However a couple of hours later, as we bowled up at the former airfield, we were met by film crew trucks & catering vans and a polite security guard informing us that 'Just Jane's' home was closed for 2 days for a tv commercials shoor....films crews eh, "don't you just hate 'em"? 🤣

A quick bit of re-jigging of our plans and my pal & I found ourselves bowling up at RAF Coningsby and... sure enough... there were signs directing us to the far side of the fighter base where we did indeed see a separate entrance to the BBMF...

So in we went and were immediately confronted by a very well appointed mini- museum which included some lovely kit... and in front of it an attractive gift shop wherein another very nice lady informed us that a tour of the main hanger had just left, but another was due in about 20 mins..so we signed up and handed over our £9.30..a kind 'age concession' from the normal £10-odd... and stood by.

As we did so, the smashing lady we'd earlier met at Woodhall Spa bowled up, and laughing at the coincidence, we formed ourselves into a small party and at the allotted time we were addressed by a great ex-RAF Air Traffic Controller who began what was to be a fantastic 2 hour-or so guided tour of the BBMF Hanger.

After all my years dealing with, (and filming close-up), WW-II RAF & USAAF aircraft, I thought I'd long reached 'peak Spitfire' but on entering the massive hanger and immediately inhaling the tell-tale tang of aviation fuel, and seeing every one of the flying BBMF fleet parked before my eyes and being worked on by expert RAF engineering-regulars, I was right back in 'seventh heaven'.

The cracking guide, (whose name I sadly missed, thanks to the incredible roar of the RAF's Typhoon fighters doing take-offs & landings close by the hanger...school-boy error on my part), filled my next few hours with valuable BBMF background info and aircraft gen I'd either forgotten or never knew in the first place and it was a real joy to be in his very knowledgeable company whilst also being so close to these irreplaceable icons of WW-II aviation.

Walking again, literally within touching distance of these amazing old British war-birds, (both fighters & bombers), was indeed still a massive thrill and something of a real honour, especially not having known such a tour was indeed possible..!

So if you harbour even the slightest passing interest in our finest World War Two RAF aircraft that more than contributed to our eventual victory over Germany in 1945, then visiting this home of the BBMF, (or should that be 'temple'?), and taking in an expert guided tour of these rare & highly prized, (flying), exhibits is an absolute must.

I must admit as the tour sadly came to a conclusion, (still with the Typhoons overhead loudly 'doing their thing'), I came away 'bouncing' like the 13 year old I was when I first 'discovered' the Spitfire some 50-plus years earlier..!

Therefore a massive thanks to all the staff & guides at this home of the RAF's BBMF for offering my pal & I, (and indeed our fellow visitors), such an inspiring & exciting afternoon..and what a lucky break bumping into the lady over at the 617 Dambuster Squadron 'museum' in the Petwood Hotel over at Woodhall Spa earlier in the day...

...otherwise my pal & I would have remained in blissful ignorance of this BBMF Memorial Flight Visitor Centre and not known that this evocative & most wonderful of WW-II military collections was actually open to the public as indeed the visitor attraction it reveals it to be in its name! 👍
