We were on a ww2 weekend away with my husband and visited the battle of Britain memorial flight visitors centre. Wow wow wow what an emotional informative visit from the individual stories of the gallant service men and women to information on each aircraft in the hanger and the role they played. We were also very privileged to get up close and personal with the Lancaster and to see this marvellous machine up close was truly amazing and the stories about the men flying then was very very emotional. A fantastic day had my husband couldn't stop talking about it even as we speak watching the battle of Britain lol. Thankyou so much to our guide ( sorry I forgot your name ) you brought the whole experience to life and made us even more appreciative of the service and sacrifice you all gave for us it was very emotional so thankyou so much x

We visited in January and decided to do the tour. Tony was our guide and he was very informative and it was a pleasure to listen to him. The tour was listed as 1.30hrs but our lasted longer as we did have lots of questions to ask.

Visited for the first time last week and we were very impressed with the whole experience. We were greeted in the visitor centre by two very pleasant admissions ladies who explained the site because, as its still an MOD base, we would be escorted on a tour of the main hangar housing the BBMF aircraft by a very informative guide John Maltby.
John gave us and a small group (8 people) an extremely interesting talk and tour which lasted over the 90-minute advertised tour but still kept the groups interest throughout.
We both work at IWM Duxford and we were both very impressed by our visit to RAF Coningsby, thoroughly recommended 🙂

Having followed the BBMF closely for many years it was only a matter of time before I visited! Safe to say it was spectacularly amazing to attend the hanger tour and be so close to these amazing historic machines. Although in winter maintenance the bonus was the presence of virtually the whole flight. Gavin, my guide, an absolute encyclopaedia of information made the whole experience even more amazing.

If you join the BBMF, you get a free Hanger Tour at this place. My wife joined me at the Eastbourne Airshow in July. and today we did it as a birthday present to myself. It is excellent with a great guide who has some interesting true stories!! We highly recommend.

We visited for a second time and wasn’t disappointed. The volunteer tour guides are so knowledgeable. We had a different guide this time with different stories to tell. We will return.

Privilege to view the Lancaster and so many spitfires and hurricanes up close. The guided tour was informative and made all the more enjoyable by the knowledgeable guide.

Had a guided tour around the hanger. It was only a few ounces and was worth it. A knowledgable guide who brought the whole thing to life with his anecdotes. Really interesting and worth a visit

We visited with family who had come all the way from New Zealand and who had a family interest in these planes.
An hour and a half packed full of facts about the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane planes, guide extremely knowledgeable.
If planes are your passion then this is the tour for you!
Highly recommended.

Great experience to see the BBMG aircraft up close
Very informative guide and tour was nicely paced
Shop and food options are a bit limited, but you need to understand this IS on a fully operational RAF base
Great displays while you wait for the tour
My advice - make sure you go when the aircraft aren't out on displays/ flybys or it could just be an empty hangar you're seeing
This is an RAF base - NO BAGS. no exceptions! we were able to leave bags in the car but there were some who had travelled by public transport woh were desperately trying to find someone to look after their bags as they were not allowed in with them
Recommended but it's a part day experience

We just turned up and paid on the day. You can book a special tour if there are a few of you and you want to go inside the aircraft as did our friends visiting from New Zealand. Those kind of tours have to be booked in advance by contacting the museum. Otherwise just turn up and you will go round with the next available group but wont get to go inside the aircraft unless you are on a special pre booked tour. The normal tour is just great though and very informative.

Am planning a trip here in July,
due to luggage restrictions (coming from Australia) i am limited to the number of camera lenses to bring.
Often find museums have displays a little too close together am hoping an 18-140mm will suffice or do i risk bringing a wide angle lens ?

Sorry Ian, you would have already visited now, I hope you enjoyed your visit. For anyone else with the same question as Ian, I took two lenses for my camera, a 12mm wide angle and my regular 18-55mm. The centre cannot guarantee which aircraft will be in the hanger however when I visited they all were and bar a spitfire and dakota, everything was in arms reach so to get the whole aircraft in the frame a wide angle was required. This goes for the Dakota too as even at 18mm I missed the wings off.
No bags are allowed past the gift shop, this includes camera bags so lens choice is critical. I hope this helps people.
