Excellent visit to a place ‘less visited’; we used to live about an hour away and never made it here. We were looking for something to do, searched local, and found Chiesa die Morti. We went to Urbino in the morning, where it’s easy to kill 2-3 hours in the Palazzo Ducale di Urbino, had lunch and then went on to Urbania. Check the hours the Chiesa is open as it close from mid-day to 2:30. The guide was excellent, switching languages to suite the visitors. As there’s only one guide it could be hit and miss if you have to wait, if a ‘tour’ has just started. The tour, which is just telling the story in the room the ‘morti’ are held, lasts about half an hour. So if one’s just started you’ll need to wait, but it’s well worth it. The guide was really well informed and passionate about the story.

Experience to do, to make everything more beautiful and interesting is the ability of the two boys to explain and narrate everything. Congratulations, thanks to the emphasis of the stories and explanations you have made us relive firsthand all the events of the personal lives of mummified people.

The visit lasts about 15 minutes and the price is 5€ and also includes the Leonardi museum in Urbania.
The crypt is very small and consists of a semicircle of a dozen mummies protected by glass.
The guide was very engaging and told us glimpses of Renaissance history and culture. The most interesting part was finding out how the deaths of the mummified people happened and their stories. Very interesting, they tell of different social classes and therefore very different lives.
Some of these deaths are macabre and not from weak stomachs!
Cons: the price is a bit high, perhaps you could only allow an entrance to the crypt at a slightly reduced price. In addition, you may wait up to 15/30 minutes if you have many people in front of you and the visit is already underway.

Small church, but really very characteristic. A heartfelt applause and thanks to the boy who showed us the story of the mummies, it was very pleasant to hear him tell the story of the unfortunate guests of the church. He allowed us to enter with the dog, an unexpected gesture and very welcome.
Chi ha modo di venire a Urbania non deve perdersela!

A super interesting visit, because of the explanation and explanation of the Guide Michel it was also not gloomy or lurid. He told it both in Italian and for the two of us in English. That was class, too. The general history but also per mummy was told a background why and from what they had died. That explained with scientific research. There were 2 small children with the group and these also continued to follow Michel's story with interest. You don't see them that way very often, really a big plume. Admission was 5€. That was totally okay.

Nestled within the enchanting town of Urbania lies a hidden gem that's as captivating as it is mysterious: the Chiesa dei Morti. The Chiesa dei Morti offers a unique glimpse into the ancient funerary practices of the region. It showcases incredibly well-preserved mummies with very interesting (and often dark) stories. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. While this may look like a quick excursion, it's definitely worth seeing, especially for those interested in the macabre!

Truly original visit, with real mummies and real skeletons, but the thing that makes it more beautiful is the boy who accompanies you and explains to you one by one, the cause of death of those people, even their names, he explains to you what it's like natural mummification took place and really takes you into that historical period, telling everything with great enthusiasm; the church deserves a 10 out of 10 thanks to him

I am reviewing this place despite not having taken advantage of the visit inside due to the poor management of the place. You enter the church and there is no trace of an indication of prices or how it functions. Once inside we looked into the place where they are kept the mummies and we were rudely told that there was a sign outside and that we had to wait our turn. The phantom sign (where it was written wait your turn) was actually there but it was relegated to a corner, therefore turned it was impossible to see it. Furthermore, there was no sign of having to pay or wait to enter. I would have happily visited this quaint place but we preferred to leave.
You have to know how to welcome tourism and give directions, don't leave things to chance and without a shred of education chase away someone who I know was just looking to understand how it worked/where you needed to go.
Very bad

This is the church of the CONFRATERNITA DELLA BONA MORTE, volunteers who since 1500 have been helping the needy, and if they found them dead on the street, they gave them a worthy burial, wrapped only in a shroud.
With the Napoleonic edict of the early 19th century which required burying the dead outside the cities, and also moving previous burials, it was discovered that several bodies had undergone a process of mummification due to a particular mould. It was decided to display them in the confraternity chapel.
The custodian gives a broad explanation of the historical facts and the studies done on the remains by various universities.
