What should have been a fascinating visit to an old iron works turned into a farse. Lots of people wandering about in the semi-darkness trying to get out of ‘level 1’ of a rats in a maze game. The map you are given is useless, the signage in the building is useless. We wasted an hour wandering about trying to find access to the rest of the site. In the end gave up and continued on our journey.

The photo rally with Walter Altmeyer was very good and interesting for young and old. A great experience for the whole family.

It's kind of wearing off. We have been to the Völklingen Cabin several times because we are interested in art and visited the Urban Art Biennial. In 2024 it is a disappointment. The exhibition is not clearly signposted, there are too few signs leading through the exhibition and some of them lie loose and twisted on the floor. The exhibited works of art have also been more and better made before. All this for 17 euros per person is unfortunately not a real achievement. If you then ask for a plan to find the other works of art in the city, then you get the information, that's all. If you then walk through the not particularly beautiful city, you have to look. Trying to drink and eat in the Cabin’s beer garden will find it skillfully ignored by the staff. We left again and there were others.

We were there with 2 other, friendly married couples and had booked a guide before. Mr. Walter Altpeter led us through the plant with passion. The tour lasted about 120 minutes and was absolutely worth seeing. Mr. Altpeter explained to us the production process of pig iron in logical sequence. Can only recommend!

The place is most interesting and a great place to take photos, however I have never seen less or worst information for tourists.
We were given a leaflet that had a picture that they called a map. How evere tha "map" didn't tell any information of how to go around. There were no signs att all. We were list in the dark ground floor for a hour. The were two signs exit signs led to a dead end. It was scaring.
Finally, after going up and down severeal stairs we managed to get back to the ticket counter. Then we told how find our way to most intresting ans most pictoresque part, the upper floor. After a long walk a staff member showed us to deep and narrow iron stars. She didn' mention that there was an elevator. We climbed the stairs, quite a task for elderly people. The upstairs was worth seeing! We were lucky to find an elevetor that took us down without having to use the staircase.
I really wonder, if they check the site before closing or do they just occasionally collect the bones of the lost tourists.

Huge old industrial colossus enriched with art installations, e.g. historical films and critical installations about how we use resources.
Unfortunately there was no public tour today. The exhibition is poorly signposted, and some of the arrows even point in opposite directions.
The description of the entire production process is poor. There is also no description of the machines.

A tour full of passion by former employees. Very impressive & informative. You should bring a little more time. Two hours with 30 participants was a bit tight. You could stay there much longer.

A great excursion destination that you should take a few hours to enjoy.
If you are interested in old buildings/factories, this is the place for you. At €17, it's not cheap, but it's still worth it. Saarlandcard holders have free entry.

Excellent idea to maintain a cultural site! The place is incredible
On the other hand: no mediation for the public: whether young people or even adults!
The little golden man could be the fun support for a quest on the site for example and thus interest children/young people
We get lost a lot because there is little signage and the spaces are so large that they seem underused.
We completely missed the German film exhibition because the helmets are hidden at almost the very end of the visit - a shame really
Good experience but could really do better

We spent a total of about 4 hours in the complex. It is absolutely impressive and worthwhile. We first walked around on our own and then had a guided tour. This is recommended, as you get all the information and hear interesting stories.
