L'ubicazione del nostro hotel aveva la grande opportunità di essere praticamente a pochi passi da questo museo di arte contemporanea, ciò ci ha permesso di visitarlo senza fare grossa fatica.
Partiamo dall'edificio che incorpora la Casa de la Asegurada il più antico edificio civile di Alicante costruito nel 1685 come granaio utilizzato in seguito come prigione e anche come sede temporanea del comune, esempio dell'architettura barocca alicantina.
Il museo vero e proprio fu creato nel 1976 grazie a Eusebio Sempere e vi sono 3 collezioni permanenti : la prima è costituita da opere del XX secolo tra i quali spiccano Mirò, Picasso, Dalì,..la seconda è dell'artista alicantina Juana Frances, la terza è dello stesso Sempere.
Visita interessante in ambienti luminosi ma senza una adeguata spiegazione è difficile coglierne il senso o sapere qualcosa in più sopratutto per i profani come noi.

Enjoyed a good couple of hours here in the free, air conditioned building out of the blistering Alicante sun. Some thought provoking pieces of art work, some I liked and could look at for some time, some I considered a bit disturbing, but hey ho, I suppose that’s art for you!!

Since it is located in the city center, it is easy to visit. The length of the visit also depends on the art enthusiast.

The museum is located in the heart of the historic center of the city in a beautiful baroque palace which previously houses the Museo de La Asegurada. During the Transición it was renovated thanks to the Alicante artist Eusebio Sempere who donated his works together with his private art collection of other 20th century artists.
The structure is beautiful, clean, bright, spacious and contains 177 very interesting works of art ranging from Juan Miró to Chillida, Picasso, Juan Gris, Bacon, Giacometti, Tàpies, Chagall, Kandinsky, Dalì, Equipo Crónica, Christo and many others, in addition to the works and installations of Semper which create an interesting biography.
The library is also very interesting

This museum is heir to the Museo de La Asegurada, inaugurated in 1977 thanks to the Alicante artist Eusebio Sempere who donated his private 20th century art collection
Free, clean, well lit, an excellent example for bringing contemporary art that is not very famous to the general public

This is a superbly curated gallery.
There is a clear irony that here is free thought, expressed through the eye of the artist, that is yours to dive into for free while, next door, the Catholic basilica rules your head in a clichéd display of gaudy tat and demands 6€ for the privilege.
I choose the free thought of 20th century Spain and its struggle against Franco. I would visit Alicante again just for this place and spend several days benefiting from it's riches.
