We close the circle of archaeological sites after Lucentum and Illeta del Baynets with a visit to the Archaeological Museum located in the city center. Here are kept and well presented in display cases accompanied by explanatory panels and plaques many objects, artifacts found in the aforementioned sites with which the history of the city is traced. Interesting and well done, maybe a less gloomy environment, it was quite dark inside would make the whole thing stand out more. Particular mention to the bust, not original, depicting the Lady of Elche on which many stories are told which will then be visible in other places.
In the period we frequented there was also an exhibition, paying extra, on the Qin y Han dynasty that we have not seen.
I absolutely recommend the visit to deepen the history of the city.

Lots of interesting exhibits, though the item descriptions were far to small a text and to low down to read properly. Be aware that approximately 50% of the exhibits have no English language descriptions if that’s your preferred language.

We went in January 2024 to see the Terracotta Warriors on loan from China and it was absolutely fantastic! Very thrilling as they arranged the rooms to build anticipation. Great job!

Beautiful building. Horrible, politically-motivated exhibits. They spent a LOT of money on a lavish but meaningless presentation. The whole message, repeated endlessly, is that the end of the Bronze Age was caused by "class differences" and "inequality" in pre-historic societies. How stupid and woke can you get?

Beautiful interactive museum, interesting for families with children and adults. During the period in which we were in Alicante, inside the Museum there was an exhibition on the Terracotta Army of Xian, very well set up (with around a hundred original pieces). Consult the website for temporary exhibitions.

There was a hair in my food and they argued that it was the wrong color ! It was black and we are all blondes . I sent it back and didn’t eat and they still wanted me to pay for this meal .

The legacy of the Quin and Han Dynasty. Xi'an Terracotta Army.
I traveled 600 km just to see this exhibition. I was dying to see it, after finding the advertisement in the National Geographic Spain magazine.
Of amazing artistic, historical and cultural interest. The staging is simply sublime. The video of the historical reconstruction of the events immerses you in history and the first figure before entering the exhibition, of the horse carriage, shows you the prelude to what you are going to enjoy.
The murals and drawings on the walls of all the rooms that accompany you through the exhibition are superb. A preciousness.
Such a pleasure for the senses. Completely excited to see this exhibition and be able to enjoy some of the terracotta warriors. I don't even want to think what it will be like to be able to see them all in situ.
It must be overwhelming.
In the rooms where there were sculptures of recreations behind sheets illuminated from the back area, and it was sublime.
There was a video of a recreation of the colors that the figures should have originally had that was spectacular. I loved.
The best 600 km invested of my life. I wish I could see her again.

The museum is beautifully presented with rooms starting with the prehistory of the region. Everything is very clearly presented and easy to see, with excellent animations on the walls above.
However, I have three complaints.
1. The Visigothic era, which is a period from the early 6th century to the early 8th and is a key bridge between the Roman and Islamic ages, was not covered at all when I asked why not, the helpful guide explained that there are not many artefacts from this era and that, as this is an archaeology museum, it meant that there was nothing to show. I get it, but for anyone who does not know Spanish history, it makes the story hard to pick up.
2. There is no coverage at all of the period between Islam and modernity. What?!! Why not? If the intention is to present a period that ends with Moorish Alicante, fine, but when there is a rather sad little room covering the 19th century (and barely telling its story at all) it makes the whole experience frankly disappointing.
3. There is not much by wy if English, French or German translation and no other languages seem to be available. I speak Spanish, but my partner does not, so I had to translate. As a tourist attraction, this is poor.
So what almost was a fantastic experience was like watching a great series on Netflix only to find that half the episodes aren't there. Annoying.
However, I have three complaints.

We went to the museum without any great expectations. On vacation you have time and can also look at something cultural. We were pleasantly surprised. We were allowed to look at the Chinese nuclear war. Well, just a few. Not the 1,000 but it was very nice to get an impression. There wasn't much going on in November either, so we were able to look at everything without stress. The entrance fee is justified and cheap. My tip: just do it!

¿ a quien se le ha ocurrido la brillante idea de tener cerrado el museo de 14 a 18 horas en plena época de afluencia turística? ¿ y qué razones le han llevado a esa mente maravillosa a planificar esa castración horaria? ¿ saben ustedes que en museos del tercer mundo no se cierran los museos en todo el día, incluso en países tercermundistas?

Es incomprensible que cierren un museo de esa categoría para irse a comer, lo lógico es que hayan turnos para mantenerlo abierto todo el día y con más razón todavía en plena época de verano que es cuando más turistas y visitantes recibe MARQ
