You can get to the castle by bus or pay 3 euros to go in lift. We decided to do the hike. Thankfully we had water as in the July heat it’s challenging. Entry was free and we would have happily paid to get in. There is a restaurant on the way up and two snack bars and toilets. The views were stunning. We would have liked to read about the history, however there was no translations. Maybe they could provide headphones that translate. The castle lacks furniture and historical pieces, however lots of nooks and crannies and beautiful views. On our fist visit we didn’t know to descend and see the old town. We came back a week later and on the way down we enjoyed getting soaked by the fountains. We walked back up slightly and found the beautiful area known as or El Barrio. (See photo) Worth a visit and wonderful that it’s free to go in.

Het is een flinke klim naar boven (vooral in de middagzon) maar eenma boven ga je geen beter uitzicht op Alicante krijgen dan hier! Echt prachtig je kan 360 graden op kijken en een goed overzicht van de stad krijgen. Zeker de moeite waard!

This 169-meter-high mountain dominates the city of Alicante.
It is covered by pine trees and bushes on the north side, while there are only rocks on the south side overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The medieval fortress, the Castle of Santa Barbara, stands on the top of the mount. Park Ereta is located on the slopes of the mountain.
You can climb or take a lift to the top to enjoy the breathtaking views.

Monte Benacantil is in all probability one of the major tourist destinations in this city ,the mountain is home to the magnificent Castillo De Santa Barbara ,one of the most recognisable landmark structures in this city dating from the 9th century,the views afforded from the mountain are stunning,there's the beautiful city of Alicante and beyond plus great views of the sea and coastline,a wonderful area of the city to check out ,it's a 10 minute walk or a lift brings you up to the summit at a cost of €3.
Well worth checking out if you're planning a trip to Alicante.

there are a few paths to the top of this hill, some steeper than others. but it's worth the climb. nice views from the top and a little cafe to have a beer and a bite.

Probably the most beautiful sightseeing place in Alicante. Nice view over the mountain from different places. Definitely gives extra atmosphere to Alicante.
Unfortunately didn’t have time to go top of the mountain, but hopefully one day can do that.

Buen sitio para pasear con mi perro. Subiendo puedes apreciar todo Alicante. Al llegar a la cima encuentras el castillo que es una preciosidad.

The views from the top of the small mountain are wonderful.
Landwards, you see modern Alicante stretching for miles and miles and you see even beyond. Seawards, you see old Alicante, dainty houses, ecclesial domes, colourful buildings, the harbour, the beaches, everything is so lovely. Santa Barbara Castle is atop this monte.

The castle on Monte Benacantil is beautiful need to show Id or passport.
My main problem is I expected the lift to be under the mountain... It is but its entrance is via a tunnel from the seafront possibly 200m away.

If I am not mistaken, the castle opens every day at 10 am. Closing time depends on the season: October through March at 8 pm, April-May-June-September at 10 pm and July-August at 11.45 pm. Take care however cause the elevator usually runs from 10 am through 7.45 pm ! Enjoy !

En toda zona montañosa puede existir algún animal peligroso, pero como alicantino que soy, te puedo asegurar que en los ultimos meses no hemos tenido ninguna alerta o noticia al respecto. Que disfrutes de mi ciudad ¡Un abrazo!
