A nice little cave located in the middle of Royston Town. Mush of the reason for its existence and information about it is not known but it is a hidden gem. It ia a little bit smaller than I thought and there is a steep staircase kleading up to the cave and there is not too much space down there but it is a must see! Tickets can only be booked online and sale of tickets is usually closed a day before. Tickets cost just £7 for an adult.

I lived in Royston for many years and never got round to visiting this place. HOW EMBARASSING! It's located in the centre of Royston by the T Junction and close to the Roysia Stone and the High Street.

Note to enter the cave there is a steep staircase and it is a bit narrow so bear this in mind if you struggle with these.

When I visited you had to book a ticket in advance via the internet and I can understand why as there is limited space once you get down below.

Our guide had lots of information about the cave and it was very interesting and informative. There seems to be a story behind all the carvings. What was even more mindblowing was that all this was below a busy road.

Highly Recommended!

We were lucky enough to book a private tour (a birthday treat!). Our guide Nick could not have been friendlier or more knowledgeable and answered all our questions.
The cave is small but mighty. Covered in fascinating old carvings, mostly biblical, it felt like stepping into another world, yet knowing the busy street was just above us anchored it into today's world. The fact that no one really knows who created the cave, and for what purpose, adds to the mysticism of the place.
Our tour took an hour, so isn't a whole day out, but packed a big punch - we shall think about it for a long time to come. Such a treat to have something so magical available to us.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and would strongly recommend to anyone with an interest in art and history

Royston cave is a little gem hidden under the pavement in the main thoroughfare through the town centre. Little is known about the history of this little chamber before it was re-discovered by chance.

On the day that I visited, the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the carvings on the walls of the cave and how these reflect medieval history. He is also knowledgeable about the history of Royston itself and what is known about the cave.

This attraction is a nice way to spend half an hour. I found a town centre car park that is free to park on Sundays.

Royston cave is possibly not for very young children but it would appeal to older children.

I have been here twice and most people I know say they always mean to go but never get around to it. It is fascinating inside. Though not big ( high, not wide), it has a informative 'guide' to explain what all the markings are as far as is known and it is just something that I feel everyone should go to at least once as it is so historic....and right under your feet when walking on the opposite side of the road to Lloyds bank ! You would never imagine what was down there !

Fascinating ancient drawings of the Knights Templar in an extraordinary cave and location. Go if you can.

Been living in the area for 10 years but never took the time to visit the caves, finally went and its intresting but its not a full day out. It's a tall narrow cave with some steps down in to it, the guide will give you some history about the templars and then you're done.
If you like templars history then you will like it, but it's just a quick intresting tourist draw, nothing else going on.

So I moved to Royston in 2002 and have lived in and around cambridge ever since. In all that time I wanted to visit the Royston cave. It is more difficult to get to see than the last supper in Milan. Only in the summer, only at weekends, only with a tour guide, only in groups of up to 18, only in the 5 tours that they run on those days. Put it this way you can't just turn up pay your money and go in. Last weekend my wife and I had played a round of golf at Whaddon and went for a spot of lunch at the Banyers when I suggested (almost jokingly) we should try and go. We had to wait until they opened at 2 so we turned up at 1.40 but they had already sold out for the first tour. We could wait another hour for the 2.40 tour I said let's go home but my wife couldn't take me moaning about not seeing the cave any longer and bought tickets and we waited. I have to say after all those years of waiting I thought the cave, the story behind it and the ideas about its origin were amazing and I throughly enjoyed it

We are always looking for caves and tunnels which we can visit. This fantastic place has been on our list for some time. We were not disappointed. The cave is an extraordinary highly decorated and mysterious cavern. No-one knows its true history which adds to the sense of intrigue. The guide was excellent and the recorded commentary which was also played was very good. A first class place.

A mysterious hidden underground chamber that originally had no access except for a vertical shaft. Thankfully a narrow tunnel now slopes down to the cave, which is small but full of curious carvings.
The guide was very knowledgeable and informative. However I was expecting there to be more than just a small single cavern, for a fiver entrance fee.

Still it is what it is, and Royston is actually on a very significant crossroads from days of long ago, and the cave is still a bit of a mystery, an important find.
