If you want to experience both Korea's mountains and the seas, I'd suggest trying to go to Hyangiram, which is a temple located on a mountain facing the sea and has a beautiful sunrise as its name means 'facing the sun'. It is also a great place to experience Korea's traditional history. However, because it is located in a remote area, transportation may be somewhat complicated which is not ideal. But, It's well worth a visit to enjoy the great scenery.

Located 50 minutes by car from the center of Yeosu. To get there, take bus 111 (stop near Admiral Yi Square-1400W, return) because the traffic approaching the sanctuary is hellish, not to mention the wait for a parking space to become available .
Not very easy access with a “cut-throat” slope.
Many artisanal kimchi shops line the path (purchase per kg, minimum). It entertains during the climb effort.
Up there, a pretty site offering some views of the sea and interesting hiking trails.
The monastery itself is anecdotal and in no way justifies making a detour to Yeosu to visit it.

It has been one of the best experiences in the Republic of Korea. It is only 30 minutes by taxi from Yeosu and is not expensive at all. The place has excellent views and is quite cozy.

This place is a little far from the other tourist attractions in Yeosu but well worth the trip. The walk up to the place is not easy. But it is worth the effort. The view up on the mountain is beautiful and it is also a historical place. I especially liked the narrow rock path that was near the top. I strongly recommend comfortable shoes. BTW, the parking lot is not very big and so on a busy day you may have to wait for parking.

약간 가파르지만 틈틈히 멋진 배경삼아 사진찍으며 가시기 좋습니다. 제가 방문했을 때는 방문자가 꽤 많았습니다. 오르내리는길 옆으로 장사하시는 분들도 계신데, 여수답게 갓김치도 많이 파십니다.

We drove along quiet roads and then hit a traffic queue as visitors tried to get as close to the entrance as possible to park their cars. So just park to the side of the road and walk 500m, rather than waste ages waiting to get too close. Their is a steep hill lined with restaurants, of which the one we went to was very good. The Hermitage itself is up several long flights of stairs, has nice views, is a bit run-down and is one of those places where people insist on throwing coins. Perhaps the monks enjoy scavenging for 100 won coins and then hoarding enough to buy a Kia Sportage? Average.

한국의 바다를 바라볼 수 있는 4대 사찰중 한 곳입니다.
정말 멋진 곳입니다. 올라가는 길에 큰 바위를 통과해서 가는 곳이 압권입니다.
대웅전 앞에서 보는 풍경도 정말 멋집니다.
여수에 오셨다면 필수로 가야할 곳입니다.

주차자메서 한참을 네발로 가듯 가야하지만,
도착하면 고생이 날아갈꺼예요..

Hyangiram merupakan salah satu tempat wisata yang terkenal di Yeosu.
Terletak sekitar 40 menit dari kota (menggunakan taxi), perjalanan menuju Hyangiram sangat indah yaitu diselingi laut biru dan pegunungan yang hijau.
Untuk mencapai kuil, harus mendaki yang cukup terjal namun tidak panjang.
DAri atas kuil, kita bisa melihat lautan biru sambil beristirahat.
Terletak sekitar 40 menit dari kota (menggunakan taxi), perjalanan menuju Hyangiram sangat indah yaitu diselingi laut biru dan pegunungan yang hijau.
Untuk mencapai kuil, harus mendaki yang cukup terjal namun tidak panjang.
DAri atas kuil, kita bisa melihat lautan biru sambil beristirahat.

Hi All,
I have problem finding details for the stay at the foothill of Hyangiram while making plans for Korea in Aug next year. Do you happen to know of any?
I also need to know about how to book the ferry from Yeosu to Jeju as the website booking site is in Korea, other than calling them.

Hi, can I find the contact to book the motel or pension at the small town below Hyangiram temple. I am checking for August 2016. Can also advise if it is a high season? Thank you.
