This is truly the best way to get an idea of how the early settlers lived. The buildings and exhibits are genuine. We enjoyed how much detail there was in among the artifacts.

We were on an ocean cruise and made a stope in Greenland. This was a small town but we were able to visit with locals and we enjoyed the visit.

This was a highlight of a Holland America Voyage of the Vikings cruise. The caretakers set up early for the cruise and we were there at opening so we avoided the later crowds. The admission was about $10USD per person and they take credit cards. This is rustic. That's the point. This has examples of life from known settlement time to late 20th century. Buildings are original or convincing replicas in and most are accessible inside with different themes. There are carvings, clothing, photos, boats and kayaks. There are examples of daily work and home life, with a bonus of technology when one building was a radio station. Take care and climb the stairs in the center to the flag and enjoy the view.

Its people are still living in the old days. Still behind as they were not prepared to welcome us especially to a big group as we came with the norwegian star

Nanortalik, Greenland was one of the ports of call on our Holland America round-trip TransAtlantic cruise, and is an Inuit settlement. Anyway, as I viewed the landscape, I could appreciate how that landscape had been sculptured over hundreds of thousands of years......... by the movement of glacial ice........ice movement that essentially stripped away any pre-existing soil, ice movement that altered V-shaped valleys into U-shaped valleys, leaving a rounded landscape, with sharp, angular peaks and ridges where the rock was not covered by glaciers. Also, for those readers who may have an interest, the exposed rocks at Nanortalik are part of the geologic trend we in the USA refer to as the Appalachian Mountains. I was also fortunate to meet and talk with a grade school class, on a "field trip" from their school about 1/2 mile away. Some of the kids asked why I was looking at the rocks.....so we talked.

I love this museum - I have made three visits to the museum. There is a mass of material - housing, Inuit artifacts such as kayaks and clothing. It is not stunningly curated, but for the persistent much is to be learned of traditional life styles and life in the C19th and C20th. Get to see a kayaking/umniak display of one is available when you visit.

We loved this museum and want to ask EVERYONE to pay the $5 usd per person and assist these people...$5 usd is all it cost and you can go into about 15 buildings that have been well preserved and show you how it was back then. The townspeople are very friendly and want you to enjoy their heritage. Go see this museum, you will be so glad you did.

Ich vergebe diese Wertung sehr selten, hier gerne.
Die Freilichtmuseum ist mit Sorgfalt gestaltet, sehr informativ aufgebaut und gibt einen wirklich guten Eindruck in das leben der Inuit.
Unbedingt ansehen.

Group of buildings set like an old village, each with a different mpresentaation of aspect of Greenland life. Cruise ship description of museum very brief, but we stopped anyway. Then regretted we did not have more time left to explore the museum and its beautiful setting. Just a facinating place.
