Nanortalik -- from the Geologist's perspective
2019年8月
Nanortalik, Greenland was one of the ports of call on our Holland America round-trip TransAtlantic cruise, and is an Inuit settlement. Anyway, as I viewed the landscape, I could appreciate how that landscape had been sculptured over hundreds of thousands of years......... by the movement of glacial ice........ice movement that essentially stripped away any pre-existing soil, ice movement that altered V-shaped valleys into U-shaped valleys, leaving a rounded landscape, with sharp, angular peaks and ridges where the rock was not covered by glaciers. Also, for those readers who may have an interest, the exposed rocks at Nanortalik are part of the geologic trend we in the USA refer to as the Appalachian Mountains. I was also fortunate to meet and talk with a grade school class, on a "field trip" from their school about 1/2 mile away. Some of the kids asked why I was looking at the rocks.....so we talked.

museum bekijken

Outstanding museum in south Greenland
2018年11月
I love this museum - I have made three visits to the museum. There is a mass of material - housing, Inuit artifacts such as kayaks and clothing. It is not stunningly curated, but for the persistent much is to be learned of traditional life styles and life in the C19th and C20th. Get to see a kayaking/umniak display of one is available when you visit.

Worthwhile and fascinating

We loved this museum and want to ask EVERYONE to pay the $5 usd per person and assist these people...$5 usd is all it cost and you can go into about 15 buildings that have been well preserved and show you how it was back then. The townspeople are very friendly and want you to enjoy their heritage. Go see this museum, you will be so glad you did.

Ich vergebe diese Wertung sehr selten, hier gerne.
Die Freilichtmuseum ist mit Sorgfalt gestaltet, sehr informativ aufgebaut und gibt einen wirklich guten Eindruck in das leben der Inuit.
Unbedingt ansehen.

So real a feeling that were in the time 100 years ago

Group of buildings set like an old village, each with a different mpresentaation of aspect of Greenland life. Cruise ship description of museum very brief, but we stopped anyway. Then regretted we did not have more time left to explore the museum and its beautiful setting. Just a facinating place.

Idyllic
2019年8月
We managed to visit Greenland in sunny (but cold) weather in the summer, with great views. Nanotrtalik retains much of the charm of an older lifestyle. Many interesting buildings. The open air Museum is a "must do". Fred Olsen paid for the ship's passengers to visit. Lots of small houses with different reminders about how life used to be. Enjoyed a choir at the church and many interesting insights to iife in the museum houses.

Very interesting place

Fresh from listening to a local choir in the church, we visited this collection of buildings which holds a kaleidoscope of fascinating exhibits from yesteryear. From the cruise ship Boudicca we were permitted free entry which was surprisingly generous. Well worth a visit.

Amazing Greenland museum.
2019年8月 • 好友
Nanortalik museum documents every aspect of life Ina small town in Greenland. It shows the kind of houses people lived in, the tools they used in their work, and what they did for recreation in the very limited amount of free time they had.

Most Interesting Place to Visit in this Small Village
2019年7月
The museum is a collection of small huts with fascinating tidbits of information and artifacts. The huts are clustered together fairly tightly. One contains radio and electronic equipment that were used during the war, Others have fabrics/coats implements or pictures. In the center, there is a very small observation tower that one can climb through wooden stairs. Fun place to learn history and the locals' way of life.
