Such a lovely place. Took a lunch stop on way to Looe. House was sadly closed due to roof damage but still a peaceful walk and lovely grounds. Cafe and little shops to browse.

We walked in the grounds with our dog. It was a lovely day and the buildings are very interesting. We were astonished to find Mares Tail in the grounds. This is the scourge on our allotment , but if National Trust can’ t cope with it , there is not much hope for us. Even so , it is beautiful to walk around the grounds. We recommend a visit.

We came for the photography exhibition, which was interesting and saved the visit, otherwise disappointing. Unless you’ve only come for a walk around the perimeter, dog access is extremely limited. This includes the cafe in the main building (the one at the entrance has been closed). The cafe is accessed down a series of institutional corridors, where you can buy takeaway food and drink, however there are no tables and limited seating altogether outside, where your dog is allowed. We were told that dogs aren’t allowed to preserve the garden’s award winning status - I’d be interested to know how many years ago this award was won. The drinks and cake were good, but the location of the cafe is inconvenient at best and I would hope this is to be addressed as they embark on a much needed and extensive programme of works to the house. The staff member running the gift shop was very pleasant.

I was so excited that we were visiting Barrington Court, it was going to be my treat to visit your cafe, but no matter how hard I tried there was no way that I could get my mobility scooter any where near your cafe. The first path had big shingle on it.
We were told another way round which took us to a dead end .
The only way we could have got us anywhere near it had a no visitors route, as it was a private road.
We won't be returning.

The National Trust have given up on the garden at present while the house is closed.
The garden is neglected it's been let go and become run down. This seems to be a big mistake as it will take a lot of work sometime in the future to return it to it's full glory.

Went to Barrington Court today. It was superb. Couldn't go into the Court as it was shut to visitors as it need a lot of restoration, but we had a wonderful guided talk around Barrington by John Clark who was magnificent in his knowledge and enthusiasm for this beautiful place. Totally engaging. We hung on every word. Do not miss an opportunity to join him on his tours. He truly brought this glorious property to life. You would miss so much if you simply walk around by yourself. Looking forward to going into the Court maybe in a couple of years if health and safety allow. 💗

Arriving to find the house closed was a poor start and as we progressed through the grounds our disappointment deepened. The gardens were scruffy and looked un-cared for. The rose garden had been underplanted with herbaceous plants which were unkempt and untidy, detracting from the roses which should be good enough the stand alone as an attraction. Several beds were rife with mare's tail and other weeds and the walled garden covered in fallen rotting fruit. Why can't the windfalls be gathered for sale by donation?
The house itself is covered in scaffolding and inaccessible; the only good feature was the entertaining and instructive guide who took us round the outside. Apparently the scaffolding has been in place for several months with no work done - presumably this must be costing the NT with nothing to show for it.

Great day out and although the house is closed at the moment for renovation the grounds make a fabulous day out on their own

Beautiful Barrington, blighted by the very rude man that runs the pottery there, I have never been spoken to so rudely, rudeness that shouldn’t have happened.. it really upset us and spoilt our visit… shame on you

We have visited many National Trust properties over the years but this is one of the best we have had the pleasure to visit. The property is easy to find and well signposted and there was a reasonable size car park on arrival. There is some separate disabled parking nearer the property. From the car park there is a path to the entrance and you can use the small cafe without going past reception. We went on a Monday and there wasn’t a lot on offer just a few chicken sandwiches, pasties ( meat or vegetarian) sausage rolls, crisps and cake. There were hot and cold drinks available. As it was so hot we sat under the shade of a tree as the tables did not have umbrellas.
Once we entered reception we were given a warm welcome and got a map. We had a look around the orchard, walled gardens and woodland area. Unfortunately the house was closed due to roof works being required.
We also realised that there is a better cafe inside the property with much more choice of food, we stopped there for tea and a piece of Victoria sponge. Here you get table service and the staff were really fun and friendly.
There is an excellent second hand book shop with a massive selection of books all sorted into categories so it was easy to look for what you wanted.
The gardens here are very well looked after and at this time of year are a riot of colour.
In addition to the regular NT shop there is a row of Artisan workshops selling a variety of hand made items.
This is a lovely place to visit and offers a lot to look at and fantastic for anyone interested in photography there are so many opportunities to take pictures.
