Dozza is certainly not a medieval village comparable to those of Tuscany or Umbria. However a certain charm and an "ancient" flavor has them and seeing the walls of the houses in the old town covered with "modern" murals leaves you dumbfounded. These murals may be beautiful and painted by famous artists, but in a village like Dozza it would be better to leave the walls untouched.

Inspired to visit this village, we were positively impressed by the idea of exhibiting murals in the open air, characterizing the small medieval village and making it attractive from a tourist point of view.

An artistic village, an empathetic place, I saw it again with a profound sense of rediscovering an atmosphere of peace and serenity that it transmitted to me immediately (I made my first visit in 2022). The village on the hill in symbiosis with its fortress, a reserved hill above a verdant hilly landscape, with its artistic mural reading walk has become a place of my heart for me. I appreciated again "The Angel of Dozza" painted by Giuliana Bonazza in 1993, "The Breath of the Dragon" painted by Paolo Barbieri in 2015, "The Guests' Entrance" painted by Alberto Sughi in 1987, "the Segavecchia festival" by Dal Re Tonino, "After the Harvest" by Zotti Carmelo, the glass work on the wall "Before us" by Umberto Zanetti, and the painting "Nel polesine" by mainardi Elvio, left me once again with the sweetness in 'soul.

An amazing experience to walk around the admire the beautiful murals; each one unique in content and technique. Well worth the drive from Bologna especially since the medieval castle is at the edge of the village.

Beautiful borgo on appenine tosco emiliano. Murals located allover. Enotecca nazionalrwith wines from Emila romagna can be tasted with explanation from a somellier private setting along with breads cured meats and cheeses. One can also purchase wines

It is one of the 100 most beautiful towns in Italy. It is famous for the "Biennale del Muro Dipinto" Painted Wall Biennial, held every two years in September.
It's like an open-air art gallery in the Emilia Romagna Region. 40 km from Bologna. It can be reached by bus 101.

Well worth a visit if your nearby , visit the small medieval castle too , the views from the tower are beautiful. Parking is limited , so park on the outskirts and walk into the village , there’s a car park behind the chemist enjoy !

Trip to this really cute village! A small open-air museum with its murals on the facades of the buildings. Some murals are really lovely, others could use some maintenance. If you are in the Bologna/Imola area, this stop is highly recommended!
