Our group was fortunate to visit the museum and receive a guided tour of the area. The volunteer staff members were very friendly and informative. Our tour manager remarked that this was one of the best museums he had visited. I agree with many of the great reviews here.

My Uncle was in the 28th Division from Princeton, NJ - His Unit ended up known as the "bloody bucket" by the Germans. So many young U.S. men were KIA during this horrific battle; of which the Americans were not prepared for and it was one of the most extreme cold and fiercest of winters occurring there. My Uncle (along with the 28th Division) were among the first to reach German soil where he was killed. I have documented proof of his demise. Such a horrible war. He is buried at Henri Chapelle American Cemetery and was in a temporary gravesite before his final resting place in Liege. So many soldiers died at the same time, they needed to place the bodies in ground, quickly. So temporary graves were created. Colonel Ernest P Cushing, Jr., died on September 14, 1944. He was just 21 years old!!! On his body was a prayer book, a rosary, probably given to him by his Mother, and a few dollars and change. Never let our young men be forgotten! Kindly and Proudly, From The USA

Excellent museum covering the Period of the US operation 1944-45. Lots of genuine artefacts displayed well and with a detailed but clear description of the events written in both German and English. Very professional adherence to Coronavirus guidelines.

My husband contacted this museum ahead of our October, 2019 visit. He specifically wanted a tour of the area so he could see the area his father experienced when he was part of the 28th division during WWII. The volunteers arranged a time for a full day tour and only requested payment for admission to the museum and a gratuity which we were happy to provide. Two of their volunteers spent the entire day with us and went out of their way to show my husband locations where they believed his father may have been physically. It was very meaningful for him and helped to fulfill a decades-long dream. We are extremely grateful to the museum staff for the time they took with us. The tour was interesting and the museum was a great way to get a baseline understanding of this part of the war.

The museum was very nice. It had many surprising items on display. The part I liked was the focus on the effect on people, soldiers and civilians. And the lack of real meaning in the Hurtgen Forest battles.
Taking a walk through local trails is a worthwhile event. Imagine the soldiers from both sides, fighting here in a bad winter.
Finally, it is a beautiful area.

I visited here as part of a leger battlefield tour.
The museum is nice enough, though once you’ve seen one diorama you’ve seen them all but the collection of photos they have is excellent. They are all from the action that was fought round the area. Very good.

You probably won’t come here unless you already know about the battle of Huertgen Forest. It surprised me what a major battle it was, given how little is said about it. This is the only museum to the battle I could find, and it’s only open on Sundays for half the year.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The museum doesn’t look like much from the outside but it contains a lot of material, and we spent about 90 minutes looking round. There’s even a small display of Neolithic and Roman finds from the area.

There are a lot of weapons, uniforms and other material, and some dioramas showing positions during the battle. I particularly like the information on the construction of the Westwalle/Siegfried Line, and the photographs of how the tank traps look now.

Many panels are translated into English, but not all. It is possible to have a guided tour in English. We didn’t follow this but overheard it - the guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.

All in all a very good little museum about this forgotten battle.

When we drove up I was cringing from its outside appearance ... looked small & old. What a surprise when we started walking around inside ... several rooms with excellent displays of WW II memorabilia of both American, British & German artifacts. The guides are volunteers ... ask for Thomas! He was outstanding! Easy to understand, thoughtful explanations, etc. We were fortunate that Thomas continued with us on a field trip to see the bunkers.
