After reading all of the great reviews I had tried contacting this dive shop MULTIPLE times to ask them questions and book some diving trips while my husband and I will be in Panama. We tried emailing, calling, contacting them through their website AND contacting over Facebook. All efforts have been for not. I don't know how anyone gets a hold of them!

My twelve-year-old son and I joined John and his team for a mixed snorkel/dive trip around Coiba in April. Afterward we were dropped off on the island, where we passed a few days, and what I saw while staying on the island quickly made me realize how extra special Water Baby Dive Center is. John approaches his work not only with an attention to detail but also with a twinkle in his eye...that playfulness and awareness is an amazing combo. I don't want to give away spoilers; I just really appreciate the couple little things that happened on our trip that highlighted the difference between WBDC and the other outfits which I encountered while out on the island. I hope they keep it up!!!
Further, while in Santa Catalina, whenever I mentioned we were going with WBDC, I was given glowing affirmations by folks in-the-know. Verbal high-fives for choosing them. That was a great feeling, considering this was our first real snorkel trip. We had originally connected with this business due to recommendations from a higher-end tour organization. And, yes, we saw amazing wildlife out there; the pacing was perfect; the company (staff and divers) like friends. You might pay a few bucks more than the other outfits around, but I say go for it, because sometimes you really do get what you pay for, and we would love to go on more trips with them.
Lastly, John showed exemplary professionalism. This was driven home to me a couple days before our trip. There was an engine issue with a boat, and he was going to need to postpone our trip, BUT...not only did come all the way down to where we were staying to talk to us about this in person, but he also made arrangements for us to keep to our original schedule by joining another company, including the arrangements for the island drop-off. I was undoubtedly grateful that he took those steps so that we wouldn't have to figure things out on the fly, however our schedule was flexible, and I was happy to simply spend another day on the mainland on the beach. He'd already been so kind to us when I had to reschedule our original visit due to illness the previous month (gah, the poor guy had to sift through so many of my emails!! Sorry, John!); he'd walked us through the steps for visiting the island...the dude knows what he's doing, and I hope all is successful for Water Baby Dive Center. Thanks, John and team, for being part of my 'homecoming' to Coiba.

We went diving with John from waterbaby diving in Santa Catalina. It has been a really nice dive experience. John and Raul are really dedicated and made it a very fun day on the boat and the amazing islands. We saw dolphins on the trip following our dive boat. Also we saw white tip reef sharks, turtles an octopus and many more. While in Santa Catalina consider diving with John.

John a pu gérer notre petit groupe très hétérogène (purs débutants, course director et plongeurs 3*) et faire découvrir à tous la faune sous marines lde l'ile de Coiba ..organisation sans faille...John connaît très bien les sites et s adapté aux conditions pour optimiser chaque plongées. John est en outre d'une grande gentillesse et nous avons autant apprécié sa compagnie en dehors que sous l'eau...à recommander sans réserve...Jean Yves

If you are in Santa Cataline, you HAVE to go diving in the Coiba Nationalpark. And if you do so, go with Water Baby! The equipment is really new or well mantained, the staff on the boat is very friendly and helpful and they comforted us with water, lunch and fruits.
I had two awesome dives where we saw a big group of sharks, turtles, corals, rays, moray eels and dolphins on our way back. We were just a small group on the boat, I did my dives alone with the DM Raul, which was perfect! During the surface interval we went to a beautiful secluded beach, snorkeled and relaxed in the sun. We also had a real lunch with rice and chicken.
John an Raul are a great team, you can tell they love what they are doing. They take safety really serious but without a lack of fun. I had a great day with Water Baby and would always come back again!

We really had fun diving with John during 2 days seeing turtles, many sharks, rays....
John is a nice person. We were a group of three divers. Each time we were the only ones on the diving sites. I love that.

Such a great day out with John and his team!
We went for a day trip to Coiba National park which included 2 fantastic dives, a stop off at the ranger station to register at the park (where we also visited the resident crocodile and walked up to the viewpoint), lunch on a desert island and a hermit crab race.
The diving itself was great - we went to two beautiful dive sites where we saw sharks, turtles, huge schools of fish and so much amazing marine life. The equipment was very new (I had a brand new wetsuit) and in great condition, with plenty of choice for size and style (i.e. thickness of suits etc.). The thing that we really loved about Water Baby was that snorkellers and divers were catered to equally well - snorkellers were kitted out fully and had their own guide to show them around the sites (often dive schools just let them come on the boat as an afterthought, and don't really put much effort into their experience).
Lunch was a proper meal of rice, salad, chicken, beans and fruit which we enjoyed on a beautiful beach! Once back on the mainland, the group sat around with a beer and chatted about the day and logged our dives - a really nice end to the trip and, again, something bigger companies don't tend to do!
We 100% recommend John and his team for an all round fun, light hearted but professional experience - thanks for everything!

Great time with John and his amazing team!
The place is already wonderful, but water baby s team only makes your stay better: they know how to dive, how to teach and where the good stuff is. Furthermore organisation is great, you just have to relax and enjoy, or give a hand if you like, but no schedule worries.
My best stay in Panama so far!

I took the two night dive trip. The team was friendly and competent, the island was beautiful and the food was good. Definitely felt off the beaten path.
My wetsuit was brand new, the bcd was standard quality, the regulator was leaking, but not enough to impact dive time or functionality.
I wear size 13 shoes and the biggest size they had was 12. Best to bring your own if you have big feet.
The boats are small and have little shade, so wear sunscreen and bring clothing you don't mind getting wet.
The coral life and fish are impressive. Visibility and current vary day to day. If you are sensitive to jellyfish, let the team know. If you aren't a strong swimmer, the team will make sure to keep beginner divers or weak swimmers avoid certain sites.
I hope to return to Coiba and dive with them again.

Just to let you know that we take your feedback seriously and have put your regulator aside for service this week. Also congratulations on the big feet :) we've just put in an order for XS and XL scubapro jet fins, so next time you visit we'll be sure to have fins in your size.

First and foremost, John is just a good and kind soul. Second, he LOVES the ocean, marine life and making sure people on his trips do too. I've never met anymore more excited about life and about his work than John. We spent two days with Water Baby Dive. On the first day we went snorkelling and on the second day I went diving. On both days, John was just as excited to see dolphins as on the first. He has an infectious joy for marine life and I was so happy to be with a dive instructor who shares this deep level of joy with others. The diving was amazing and while I lost my GoPro, I was too excited to think twice about spending a single minute being upset about it. Coiba is beautiful and the diversity and abundance of marine life far surpasses that of the Caribbean (I live in Bocas and there is no comparison to make). I appreciate that John took us to search for whale sharks even though it was highly likely not to see them. He made us all feel better by pointing out every turtle and dolphin on the way out to the snorkel/dive sites. The diving equipment was in excellent condition and I felt very safe diving with John. We saw a school of barracuda which was absolutely amazing. We also saw several moray eels swimming around and many white-tips. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect two days. The sun was shining, the water was clear and a good time was had by all with Water Baby Dive. Also, you can't go wrong with a hermit crab that has a lighter shell for the crab races. Finally, thank you, John for the watermelon and apple snacks. As someone who is allergic to pineapple (truly tragic), I really appreciated the other options. In conclusion, Water Baby Dive rocks! Just do it!
