This is clearly a top attraction I. The area and we enjoyed our visit but beware if a few things. First, we were told parking is free but there was a guy collecting €6 and it also created a long line to enter. He also stopped every car on the way out for some reason (we ignored him much to his unhappiness so not sure what he wanted). Also there’s supposedly a home around d the lake except that the bridge along the way is broken and you can’t traverse the waterfall so it’s apparently impossible to hike around the lake. Still it was a lovely visit and worth the stop.

I visited here as part of a tour and was able to get here and walk to the lake and enjoy the stunning scenery before it got dark.
If we hadn’t been pushed for time I’d have loved to go around the lake.

Crno Jezero (Black Lake), nestled in the Durmitor Mountain near Žabljak, is one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of Montenegro. Surrounded by dense pine forests and majestic mountain peaks, this lake is not just a popular tourist destination but a true haven for nature lovers, adventurers, and those seeking tranquility in untouched wilderness.
Stunning Natural Beauty
Crno Jezero consists of two smaller lakes, the Big and Small Lakes, which merge in spring and summer as snow melts, creating a stunning sight. The lake is framed by the towering peaks of Durmitor, providing a dramatic backdrop and perfect reflections on its calm, crystal-clear waters. The atmosphere here is serene, especially in the early morning when mist gently settles over the water, making the entire setting feel like a scene from a fairy tale.
A Paradise for Hiking and Adventure
For hikers and adventure seekers, Crno Jezero is the perfect starting point for exploring the Durmitor mountain range. A 3.5-kilometer walking trail circles the lake, ideal for a relaxing stroll or jog, while nearby trails lead to higher peaks like Bobotov Kuk, the highest point of Durmitor. Cycling around the lake or along surrounding paths is another exhilarating way to experience the natural beauty.
Peace and Relaxation
For those seeking relaxation, Crno Jezero offers the perfect spot for a picnic or simply enjoying the peace and quiet. Visitors often sit by the shore, listening to the wind rustling through the pines and watching swans and ducks glide across the water. In summer, the lake’s waters are warm enough for swimming, and many can’t resist taking a refreshing dip in this natural pool.
Eco-Tourism and Conservation
One of the most important aspects of Crno Jezero is its ecological significance. The lake is located within Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, ensuring that it remains preserved and protected for future generations. Visitors are encouraged to follow park rules, respect the environment, and minimize their ecological footprint to help keep this pristine landscape intact.
Conclusion
Crno Jezero at Žabljak is a must-visit for anyone exploring Montenegro. Its natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and opportunities for adventure make it a perfect destination for all—whether you’re seeking adrenaline, relaxation, or simply admiring the wonders of nature. No matter the season, Crno Jezero offers an unforgettable experience that you’ll want to relive again and again

(+) The lake. Remember to take your jerseys and water shoes.
(-) Paid parking at the head of the customer: pseudo-guards before the gate ask you 3€/h (!) for parking, but they do not ask the locals.
If possible, try to park elsewhere in Zabjlac (good luck) and walk to the park. Especially if you plan a hike of several hours.

We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant on site and then headed out for a walk around the lake. We veered off the trail at one point and got a bit lost. I would recommend staying on the trail. It’s about 3 miles around and signs weren’t always clear about where to go. Also, there were a few parts that required scrambling up rocks. I was shocked to see people doing this in sandals. The views and the lake were beautiful.

Had a lovely day here. Nice walking, swimming, amazing views, a bar/restaurant (we did not use) and some less tacky souvenir stands (we did buy!!)
Could have spent a whole week in Zabljak

Amazing views, so relaxing but it was so sunny and so hot in july. We rented a boat for 1 hour but we only did 30min because of the high temperatures.

Beautiful lake and hiking around very beautiful, you can also walk to snake lake (about 40 minutes)
3€/h for parking and 5€/pers for entering the park (there is no sign to warn, they want cash only and are really unpleasant)
Keep your entrance tickets they are not dated

Superb black lake easily accessible. Don’t hesitate to drive to the end of the road, there is free parking just before the park warden’s entrance post where you buy the passes. For passes if you stay several days or if you visit other parks in Montenegro, ask for the one valid for 1 year for all parks at 13,5 €. Around the lake is easy, swimming is great in crystal clear water at over 23° in August. It is better to provide shoes to go swimming because it is very rocky. The restaurant at the entrance offers stunning views of the lake and offers dishes at very reasonable Awards.

Beautiful lake! In fact, there are 2 lakes. A smaller and bigger one. Ideal for walking around, climbing (via the ropes) or enjoying the natural beauty. Even if you don't master the language (signposting) just do it with an eye on the lake. Swimming is allowed.

Hi! I'm going to Montenegro at the end of May, but not sure whether to hire a row boat at the Black Lake in Durmitor or to do this at Biogradska Gora (for 1-2 hours).
I'm planning to stay in Zabljak for 3 days and I consider to skip Biogradska Gora...
Also thinking to raft through the Tara river, to hike from Sedlo to Prutas and Bobotov Kuk, and trying to get to Curevac viewpoint.
Any thoughts or advice? ☺
