Not suitable for disabled or walking difficulties.
Although it has both disabled parking and toilets it would be impossible for anyone with, even, minor walking difficulties to explore ANY of the Abbey! The floors of the ruins are extremely uneven and the rooms dark with no artificial lighting to see your way. The stairs are a little slippy and uneven also.
The site is picturesque in lovely countryside hence the extra stars but it is misleading to advertise disabled facilities when it is clearly unsuitable if not dangerous

Quiet, evocative Benedictine historic site. Expert and friendly interpretative site. A good capsule history of the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII. Quiet and lots of birds. Recommended.

We visited Cleeve Abbey as it was near where we were staying.
There is good carparking off site, but very close by on the opposite side of the road about 100 yds/m from the entrance.
Staff very friendly.
The building is incredibly well preserved and regular information boards help you appreciate the space and how it was used in the past
Well worth the visit, sadly lacks a café.

A off the beaten track gem.
Lots of places to have a picnic.
Lots of interesting facts about it's history, but may have been better with more interactive boards, lots of information points, however some of the outside ones had faded a bit.
Very friendly and helpful staff, and of course a very clean and tidy grounds.

The simplicity and beauty of this Abbey struck me. A beautiful energy. Should be better known.
It is not big and you can see everything in just an hour.

Cleeve Abbey is different from most abbey ruins in the UK in that a large number of the buildings are still standing. This includes the gatehouse, the refectory and the dormitory. You can see the sacristy, the abouts room and the warming room. The refectory has a fantastic wooden roof. The steward was really helpful and I would recommend the £4 guidebook
You appreciate the scale of what was actually a fairly small monastery much better than when looking at ground level ruins.

The site is bigger than it looks with some interesting displays and artifacts. When we went it was very quiet and on quiet days dogs are allowed everywhere only busy days restricted to the grounds. Enjoyable day out. Try the white horse pub down the road from the car park beautiful food and you can sit by the river and chill.

I visited here on Sunday to see the Mineral line exhibition. I looked around the Abbey, then took the guided tour. That was so worth it! The guide was so knowledgeable and informative. She pointed out detail that i may have missed on my own. She knew every detail of the history throughout the ages.
Wonderfully preserved, it was a fantastic day.

Brilliant afternoon with the kids. It's a beautiful place with lots of interesting information. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. You can dress up as a monk and walk around the Abbey, which we really enjoyed! The kids did tile printing as well which they enjoyed. A great afternoon out.

A very enjoyable visit to this gem of a place in Somerset. Overlooked by many I’m sure but we’ll worth a visit.Friendly staff greeted us and were helpful to me with my walking aid. Clear descriptive information boards, interactive activities for children and adults! One volunteer I met on my travels sparked my imagination with his knowledge of the abbey and history in general .

Hello, the guide book says that dogs should be on leads, though access is restricted in some areas, inside the buildings I would expect. You can walk around outside where the church used to stand, so there is some opportunity to bring your dog.

Hi I would like to visit Cleeve abbey. I am living in London and am unsure how I would get there. I would be on my own. Would it be wise to stay somewhere for a night? If so where? And how would I get to Cleeve Abbey from the hostel, airbnb, etc?

You could easily drive from London, visit Cleeve Abbey and return home in one day. However, in my opinion it would be rather tiring! Otherwise take Jean's advice.

If you are interested in the architecture and history of the abbey I would suggest probably 45 - 60 minutes inside and maybe 30 - 45 minutes walking around the exterior and looking in the shop. Cleve Abbey is not a large property but its location and sense of peace may make you want to linger. I spent about 3 hours in total but that was because I sat for a while enjoying the tranquility and the birdsong.

I want to visit but don't have a car. What is the best way to get there from London? Is there something else worth seeing nearby? Thanks.
撰写日期:2016年7月20日
I think the last answer is best. I travelled by train from Paddington to Taunton, meeting people from other starting points, like Birmingham. We shared a mini bus to our accommodation and then there were others with cars to get us to Cleeve. I think the Abbey is worth more than a couple of hours though. Only nibbles available, so take a picnic.
