Great tour this evening saw loads of penguins and some baby ones.
The guides were informative and considerate of the group. Printed information was provided as well.

We would consider this a must when visiting Tasmania. The tour was at 9pm, just after sunset. We were lead down to the beach by our very knowledgeable guides, Zane and Charlotte. We waited with eager anticipation for the penguins to arrive out of the sea, while Zane gave a non stop commentary of what was likely to happen and how these amazingly cute creatures venture up the beach to safety. Sure enough, about 20 appeared, going through their daily routine of feeding in the sea and then heading to their nests for the night.
It was a very different and special experience for us, coming from The UK and would strongly recommend Low Head Penguin Tours

If you love penguins then this is a great experience. To watch these tiny birds and the way they waddle up the beach and rocks is truly amazing. Great family outing

The best penguin experience we’ve had in Australia! The guide is completely managed by the needs of the penguins. The guides will place you in spots to see the penguins emerge from the ocean and find their way to their babies. You get close to the babies and the parents in a safe environment for you and the penguins! Absolutely amazing, but patience is a necessity.

Just returned from Tasmania and this was definitely one of our favorite experiences! The tour guides were just terrific and really gave a great overview of the penguins. We were lucky the night we toured in that we saw A LOT of penguins. Tour did not rush through but gave you plenty of time to see the little guys. Great experience for anyone but would be wonderful for youngsters. Take this tour and you won't be disappointed.

Loved this - at dusk each evening when the penguins return from the sea to their colony.
The guides are informative, the experience fascinating and you get to be up close to the returning penguins - at the time of year we went their were both adults and young present.
An informal, interesting and fun penguin experience - a must do in Tasmania I think.

Even though the guides don’t promise you will see penguins, we watched penguins arrive from every direction. We heard them singing to each other and saw boys strutting their stuff to attract the girls. Our guides were very informative. Great experience.

The low head penguin tour was fantastic. The ability to be so close to the penguins without impacting them was incredible. You are out in the elements, so dress appropriately, but its worth being cold! This tour was actually so much better than we anticipated. Our guides were knowledgeable and engaging. It is a little out of the way of most of the tourist places and the town is super quiet, but its worth checking this tour out.

It was an excellent tour which I would highly recommend. Guides were very good & full of knowledge. Tour was not rushed & allowed plenty of viewing time.

Yes you must book a tour to be able to see the penguins, we were lucky enough to book for the same day we rang for our family of 5, however we did go in low season (end of September). Good luck with booking a day that suits you.

Hi Kindice,
As we are dealing with wild animals this question is very difficult to answer. Currently we are seeing between 15 and 50 - this includes penguins coming out of the water, chicks in burrows and moulting penguins in burrows. I would expect the numbers to be similar if not more..

Hi, I am planning to do this tour with a group of 5 around September but I have a question since it's hard to find anything listed. Will this tour come around to take people via their tour bus? If so, from where? When the tour ends, where will it end? Will the tour be around the Tamar Valley river?

Hi Sue. it's not that kind of tour at all. They specifically tour guests by walking around a spot of land at Low Head where penguins live. You will need to get yourself there. The tour starts at different times depending on time of year. it starts around sunset, check their website for times and to book. It's about 90 minutes and well worth it.

Does anyone knows which bus/coach to take from Launceston to Low Head? I saw that Lee Coaches provides Launceston to Low Head transport but there is no service from Low Head to Launceston after the penguin tour ends.
Or is anyone going to this tour on 5 or 6 May 2017? If there are min 2 people, we could probably get a coach or something.

Our temperature in September could still be cold we suggest at all times of the year to dress warm for our penguin tour. Our tour goes for just over 1 hour

My girlfriend and me will reach Hobart on 16 July, and stay there until 30 July/31 July/1 Aug. We would like to join Low Head Penguins night tour with the following questions:
1. Could you show me the way and schedule to take bus? or other public transportation from Hobart to Launceston? How long it take?
2. Launceston is the only pickup city to join the tour? When will be the pickup time?
3. According to your booking system, the tour GUARATEE run every day?
4. After the tour, I will take public transportation to Devonport, going to Melbourne by ferry. Except flight, is this the only way to Melbourne? Any suggestion?

As we drove our rented car to travel in the trip, I had no idea about the public transport which had been considered not very convenient in Tas. Yet, we knew that the tour company had pick-up service and the schedule needed prior checking with the company. In fact, the availability of the tour required prior confirmation by phone on the activity day as the sunset time might not be the same as shown in the company's website.

Following my booking and payment online on 16/1/16, I have sent several emails to your team to ask about the pick-up arrangement. However, no reply have been ever received.
