Sarasa was a great teacher and the little pieces of information about where some local veges came from was so interesting. We both feel inspired. Our lunch was very tasty. We would definitely recommend this experience.

Sarasa's cooking lesson was amazing. While on our trip we had a rain day and took a break from skiing. She taught me as well my nine year old daughter and her friend how to make authentic gyoza as well a miso soup and another small side. We all loved it. It was the highlight of the trip for both girls. They liked it more than the the powder skiing. We have already made the gyoza with friends at home. Thank you Sarasa!

My daughter and I were thrilled to spend the morning being instructed by Sarasa in the arts of Japanese cooking. My daughter who had previously done a sushi class with Sarasa last year was so enthused that she wanted to try making gyozas which are SUCH a delicious part of the Japanese food culture. What luck for me to be brought along too!
We had a super interesting morning and were given quite a few extra cooking tips on top - tofu prep, dashi prep, soba noodles and the decorative side too.
We finished with an entire Jaoanese lunch to eat in the quiet comfort of Sarasa’s dining room - elegant and delicious and I can’t recommend this activity strongly enough. It was such a privilege to learn from such an inspiring and lovely Japanese lady, well worth doing.

It was recommended by the owner of our apartment at Echoland Apartments and a friend to look at the cooking classes offered by Sarasa on our visit to Hakuba. I booked a 'Dinner Time class' where Sarasa and four of our group made gyozas for our whole group of 8. Sarasa then catered for our entire meal (3 courses) showing us the ingredients that she used and telling us about the origin of the menu. (history.... ) Three of us then attended a 'ramen' class at Snowlines Lodge a couple of days after. We learnt how to make ramen noodles, stock etc... Once a year Sarasa makes miso paste... very interesting to taste and talk about. Both workshops were hands on with follow up recipes. I really wish Sarasa well with this business. I've done cooking classes in many different places and this was by far the best.

I have been to a lot of cooking classes overseas and this was definitely one of the best. Sarasa is a very intelligent woman who is passionate about her food. Instructions were clear, ingredients were fresh and aromas were flowing! The ramen was wonderful as was Sarasa's hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality cooking class.

Sometimes you just need a day for the body to catch up from skiing.... At Snowlines Lodge in Hakuba sits a great, warm, friendly, hands-on Japanese cooking school called “Wamotenashi”. Run by Sarasa, who is a delight and obviously loves to cook. She shares her knowledge and takes a hands-on approach to teaching a small group of people various dishes. Classes are small and Sarasa explains so each person can get involved and she can spend time with each person. We choose to do the Ramen classs. Wow didn’t realise how involved this was. The best part was... well I’m not going to share that as that would give away the surprise, as part of the cooking class consisted of an unusual method (to Westerners) but fun way of preparation of part of the dish. At the end you get to eat what you prepared... and that was pretty damn delicious! Open to everyone - all ages and genders!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed a personal Japanese cooking class with Sarasa. I chose to do the bento box cooking class as I was keen to learn how to make karage (Japanese fried chicken). I also learnt how to make onigiri, sushi vinegar and salads. (See photos) Absolutely delicious and simple. Perfect food for summer.
I would love to go back and do the ramen class. Highly recommend doing Sarasa’s cooking class.

Wow. 5 Stars for the bento box cooking class. Overall it was the highlight of our trip to Hakuba. Well fed, very clean, taught the Japanese culture around food & came away with the left overs and recipes!
Would highly recommend.

Sarasa has developed such lovely cooking classes - if Japanese food is your thing we highly recommend giving this a go! My partner and I cooked gyoza and ramen from scratch (though Sarasa had helpfully pre-cooked the ramen broth). The class, which we shared with another friend, went for three hours and was very detailed and easy to follow. The meal we got to share at the end was the most rewarding of our trip, plus we have taken home the recipes so we can try again.

If you have a day off the mountain, this is the perfect activity in Hakuba!

I was very keen to do a cooking class on this trip to Japan and Sarasa san was so accommodating to me. She did not originally have a class scheduled on the day that I was able to do but set one up when I emailed about it. She suggested I pay as though it would be a private class and then if someone else joined she would simply refund me the difference (a private class is 2000¥ more - someone did end up joining us and it was fun to have another person as clueless as me!). I thought this was a wonderful practical approach.
When I arrived for the class, I was warmly welcomed to the lodge even though I was early. The actual class when it started was clear, informative on a variety of topics (about culture generally, not just the food) and lots of fun. Sarasa san is such a kind and patient teacher. She also adapted the class to recognise that it was 'Demon Day' so we ate soy beans and cut and ate our sushi in a special way for the occasion.
Our food was delicious and plentiful.
I am so grateful to Sarasa san and the whole team at Snowlines Lodge for such a wonderful day and would recommend Sarasa san's cooking classes to anyone interested in Japanese cuisine coming to Hakuba!
