This place is fantastic. We spent nearly 4 hours here one weekend and the time just raced by. The attention to detail on the models and dioramas is amazing. The more you look the more you see and what a great way to bring history to life.
The scale of what is on offer is truly stunning. You enter the Farmpower hall and it just keeps going and going.
All of the staff were super engaged and friendly and we enjoyed our conversations. The Traders and Whalers exhibition is fun and the coffee and cake at Mr Badger's Cafe was a welcome treat after wandering around.
And how nice to pop into the gift shop and find the guy working behind the till is the one that built all of the models!
It's a place that probably warrants coming back to as there is just so much to see and do.

This place is stunning.....make sure you do the Whalers and Traders section......it’s fantastic.

Never seen in NZ a privately owned museum that is of this quality......a must do if you within 100k of Hawera

Kids would love it too......would like to have given it a better than excellent review

What can I say but Wow. This is the most amazing museum. A real treasure. All the various historical displays are so well done, from tiny little figures to life size models. The attention to detail is just stunning.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. We ended up staying there all day, just doing the main museum with coffee and lunch breaks at Mr Badgers cafe. It is not a place to rush through.
A must do.
We'll be back to do Whalers and Traders.

This place is just amazing - the displays are first class and the detail is fantastic. The staff are friendly and happy - and like a bit of a laugh which is most hospitable. We'd been previously a couple of years ago and the displays are pretty much the same - but we picked up a lot of details we missed and the historical data should be compulsory in NZ schools - we know so little about our past. Overall the whole concept and presentation, plus the boat ride, are a "must see" if in the general area. Kids must get a real kick out of the place. Highly recommended

This is a hidden gem of NZ. This was our third visit. It just keeps getting better and better and we were fortunate enough to have great conversations with the creator Nigel and Bruce, the gentleman responsible for the greatest tractor and equipment collection you’ll ever see.

World class and amazing place. The historical displays, farm machinery sheds, boat trip and cafe all brilliant. Staff very friendly and Nigel, the owner and creator, is a great chap. Lovely cafe but don’t hassle the guy sitting in the corner.

My wife and I were visiting Hawera for the first time in a long while. The museum was a fascinating collection of snippets Taranaki’s past, based in a former dairy factory that was a piece of that past. The dioramas and figures depicting activities of the time were well done, and the Traders and whalers” attraction was a real surprise. The delightfully themed, “Mr Badger’s Cafe” did a great afternoon tea. The gift shop had some interesting and unusual items - well worth a look! An excellent afternoon, thanks to the very friendly staff there. (Just a shame we weren’t there on Sunday, when their bush railway runs…)

We needed to fill in a couple of hours before attending our intended function. We chose to come here. It was a great choice with plenty to see. We could have spent even longer than we did viewing the wide range of exhibits.

This museum is exceptional and like no other, even appealing to someone I know well who doesn't like museums!

It's located in the Taranaki countryside, and is largely the inspiration and work of the incredibly talented artist Nigel Ogle. From thousands of intricately sculpted figures 50 cm high, up to many that are life-sized, Nigel depicts Māori culture, Aotearoa history, farming practices, traditional industries, and crafts in a kaleidoscope of displays from dioramas to full-size,

As extensive as these exhibits are, they occupy only a portion of the site. We had just a short time to glimpse the separate vast display of vintage farm vehicles and equipment in Farmpower Hall, as collected by the late Bruce Alexander. We grabbed a welcome coffee and snack at the memorable Mr Badger's Cafe (there's a special guest!), but had no time for the major separate "Traders and Whalers" exhibition.

This complex of 3 museums is an unforgettable experience that we will certainly be returning to.
