A lovley place to walk and explore. Lots of wildfowl to see and gorgeous wooded areas to explore with pretty streams, together with picnic spots. Plenty of parking but there is a small charge.

Had a really nice walk and picnic but told off by the very angry and abusive woman at the burger van who (after selling us cups of tea) objected to us using her bin!!

It was our first time on a holiday at the Forest of Dean. Cannop ponds was a nice relaxing walk with our dogs especially around the ponds. The area has quite a few cyclists and other dog walkers. There were a few different routes to walk in the forest we walked here a few days as the weather was extremely hot it was an ideal place for shade. There were no public toilets on site. Well worth a visit.

For those complaining of paid parking, near the south there are plenty of places to park off the road previously used by mining trucks to park for free.

We arrived about 3pm on Easter Sunday and managed to park easily. The sun was shining and the lake looked absolutely beautiful. A lovely walk around with bridges, perfect for little legs. They even have rules stating it’s a walking path only, nothing against cyclists of course but it was nice knowing you were less likely to have to give way to bikes. After our lap of the lake my little one was itching to get in the water. There was ample shallow paddling areas for children to play in and two rope swings. There was also an ice cream van to use if you’re so inclined. It was buzzing with activity yet everyone appeared conscious of social distancing. We’re 100% going to return for longer with a picnic in the near future. Thanks FOD for another beautiful, well maintained area :)

Spent the day here with our three dogs. Lovely picnic areas near Ponds. Great long walks through the forest. Fabulous trees. Wildlife amazing.

We went here with the family. Went for a walk in the woods and took a picnic. We were following an easy walk we found on the web.
The lake wake was good and we also a crossed the road by the stone factory and when to the old mine.
There are no loos even in the car park and bins seemed limited, so be prepared and plan stops where there are loos like the cycle centre up the road.

A nice place for a stop off on any visit to the Forest of Dean. Now a pay & display but still worth it. You can see Mandarin ducks & always the possibility of Dipper in the nearby rushing streams.
Whatever it’s just a nice place to stroll & take in the wonder of the Forest.

Went to Cannop ponds yesterday to find parking meters installed. Was not happy about that.Will people still pay to park their car just to walk the dog.Thats their choice. I think it will stop some people going there.

First visit here. Had to pay £3 for parking, which is supposed to go towards visitor facilities, as a result I expected at least a map of the area showing what there is to see - nothing, no toilets, no seating at the side of the pond. We had no way of knowing what was there as all we could see was a small lake. Found out afterwards that there was much more out of sight. So £3 for a 15 minute stop before we gave up and left. It seems you have to pay everywhere you stop in the forest now.

Thanks for your comments and sorry your visit was a disappointment. Today we updated all the signage at the site including a map board so you can now see what there is to do. Our website www.forestryengland.uk also has details so you can plan your day and make your visit worthwhile.
