Not at all maintained. You will find lot of monkeys in the premises and they are very aggressive. Be careful while visiting it with kids. Its a 3 km walk in the premises so not at advisable to go during sunny day.

Vellore Fort is a large 16th-century fort situated in heart of the Vellore city, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India built by Vijayanagara kings.
The fort's ownership passed to the Bijapur sultans, to the Marathas, to the Carnatic Nawabs and finally to the British, who held the fort until India gained independence. The first significant military rebellion against British rule erupted at this fort in 1806. The fort houses the Jalakanteswarar Hindu temple, the Christian St. John's Church and a Muslim mosque. Unfortunately, for reasons that are difficult to understand, visitors do not have access to the mosque. The Indian Muslim citizens, who constitute an very important part of the local population in Vellore, are discriminated by the Archaeological Survey of India, because, strangely, they are not allowed to offer prayers in the mosque, unlike the hindus in their temple.
The ASI museum is not really worth a visit.

Very less crowd and good to know the history as well before visiting . Ample parking space (paid) Close to the main road.

Nice and a very ancient forte surrounded by lake. There is museum inside which closes at 5pm
Inside forte there is also a temple. Can do it in 45 min.

Fort is worth seeing due to many sights inside & outside its walls.
Easily reachable due to its closeness to CMC Main Hospital & Old Bus Stand.
Outside the walls, there is a moat. Vellore fort park is there too.
Inside the walls, there is a beautiful and busy temple. When one walks more, one can see an old silent church, a mosque that remains closed, a nice museum to explore and a few banyan trees with very huge trunks and aerial roots.
Lots of people can be seen in and around the fort, spending time leisurely. Sitting in the shades of the trees of Vellore Fort Park outside the walls, can be a really nice experience.
As such no unclean things there, but even today (Sept 2021) people threw plastic bottles in the moat water. That was a painful sight to bear.
Must visit place for anyone.

A vast fort of 16th Century , built by Vijayanagar Emperors. The Fort boasts of a temple - Jalakandeshwar Temple - inside. The prodosham pooja, which I had the opportunity witness, was eloborate and very good to watch and many devotees throng to the temple. The carvings on the temple gopuram and walls are a treat to see. The mote around the fort is a wide one. People say that there were/are a church and mosque too inside the fort . But I had no time to visit these.
The fort is said to be the place of vellore mutiny, a part of Indian Freedom Struggle..The Fort is now under the care of ASI.
There is no entrance fee,. The difficulty is the parking for vehicles.

Centrally located. Being a historical location, upkeep of the place should have been better. There is a temple inside the Fort which has excellent sculptures and intricate designs.

Beautiful walled fortification in which you can walk around. Green and historic spot with a view on Vellore. Certainly worth a visit when you visit Vellore. Walking on the higher walls you can overlook a part of the city - getting impression of every day life at a distance.

Try and visit in early morning or in cool parts of the day. A lot of up and down walking on unsteady ground. Nice views of Vellore and good to meet the locals and tourists alike.

This monument was the scene of a mutiny in 1807, which pre-dates the first war of independence by 50 years. A fact of which I was unaware until our visit. The defenses are well preserved and we could imagine the events as history unfolded
