The architecture of the temple is totally amazing.One of the important & Popular temple in Vellore.Temple was built in 16 century.Temple belong to Lord Shiva .We spent almost 6 hours inside the temple .The temple is beautiful crafted with stones and explain the real history of South India. If you want to visit then evening is the perfect time to visit & Dont miss the tamarind rice which is serve in Prasadam throughout the day .

The place is well maintained and a gem if you are interested in very old stone carvings. Good spiritual vibes inside and one can easily spend 30 to 45 min here.

We were privileged to be there at a time when two couples were celebrating their 60 years. As foreign visitors we were made very welcome. We also witnessed the cow darshan. A memorable experience.

Situated within the Vellore fort, the Jalakandeswara Temple is a must must visit. History buffs and art lovers will find this place mind blowing. The stone carvings on the temple, the main entry gate, the stone pillars are stunning. There are several temples inside the temple compound alongside the main Shiva shrine. However the most exquisite carvings can be found on the Mandapam at the entrance of the temple. Each and every statue, the intricate and detailed designs and carvings are praiseworthy. The mandapam is an amazing example of the ancient hindu art form which was flourised in this area.

Vellore is a reputed town in Tamil Nadu & it is an educational & a very noted medical hub, CMC Vellore. People from other parts of the country, particularly from the eastern part & also from the neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh assembled here for modern treatment .I have to go there once in a year. As Sunday, being the holiday & the OPD remains closed, I search things to do on holidays. One of the worth visiting places is the Jalakandeswarar Temple & I visited twice with my wife.Vellore is having a fort , very old . It is situated near the old bus stand. The temple is situated inside the fort & is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a very old temple.
The temple is a good example of Vijaynagaram Architecture & the style is very much of the South Indian Temple structure with a large, tall gopuram with beautiful carvings on the stone, a huge wooden gate, stone pillars. No crowd, very peaceful area. Visitors can enter inner courtyard through the wooden gate. We had darshan of a giant shiva linga with his consort Parvathi. Lord Vishnu with his consort Lakshmi & Lord Brahmma with mother Saraswati, all are of black stone. A huge stone idol of Lord Ganesha will attract the devotees. The temple is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India.
The temple was built during the reign of the Vijayanagaram king in (1540 - 1572 AD). The temple also has the statue of Sri Akhilandeshwari Amma, the consort of Jalakandeswara. We wonder at the architecture on the stone wall. The water used for bathing the deity (abishekam) is drawn from an ancient well called the Ganga Gouri Thirtam, within the temple.
There is a parking place near the temple inside the Vellore fort, no cloak room, no person to look after your shoes.

Historical temple which is more than 400 years old . Majestic gopuram and the mandapam inside the temple is amazing. It has an interesting history as well . You can spend easily 3- 4 hours inside the temple

how do i get there from cmc vellore ?

It's really close to CMC Vellore around 15-20 min of walking distance. Temple is inside the Vellore fort. The best way to be there is by walking if you are coming from CMC Main gate go straight for around 10 min, you find a red light single then take left. You can see the fort to reach the main gate, you better go to the right side of the road either you have to use foot over bridge to come there.
